Irene is a character I've never fully developed. I know things about her but nothing coherent enough to feel like I really understand her. Given that I have a slew of other characters all of whom I know better than her, at this time I'm going to put Irene on indefinite hiatus. With any luck I'll figure her out and come back. I love her dearly. But she's too fractured to be used right now and I've no time to develop her. I'm sorry. The splicer's sobs didn't stop for a long time. Perhaps she hadn't heard him. Perhaps she had but the meaning of the words didn't reach her. Perhaps she didn't care, or coudln't stop even if she did. Whatever the reason it was a long, long moment before the sobs became sniffles.

She looked up. Blue eyes looking into the pink tank, seraching it for something. Not Alexander the Great as he was perfectly within veiw. But soemthign else. Somethign more. The lie maybe.

"Now, I know ya'r bein' sweet and all. And doncha think for a second that I don't 'preciate that. But who in this whole world'll wanna be with a... a... a creature like I made myself into?"

That wasn’t the answer he had expected. In all honesty, he hadn’t expected an answer at all. He had expected her to shuffle away, looking mildly uncomfortable, but she didn’t. When he asked her to stay, she stayed. She even told him that she wasn’t going anywhere, which brought peace to Alex’s confused, ADAM-addled mind. It saved him having to ask if she really meant it, if she wasn’t just going to abandon him like all the others.

"Is that a promise?"

The blond smiled warmly. Her lips twisted oddly on one side, here eyes bulged as if too big for her skull. But she smiled and leaned a cheek on one of her shoulders.

"Course it is. Where would I go Darlin'? Ain't a whole lotta city left."

She knew that she was worse away from Alex. There was enough ADAM in this area alone that the air itself seemed to calm her. The fits felt fewer here. The episodes of blackness or of seeing her mother, both fewer and less intense. Irene needed this place and the creature who lived here.

Irene laughed. It wasn't often that she did that these days. What with Rapture how it was and what with how her mind seemed to fray more and more each passing hour. Still. Now she laughed. Alex the Great, when he wasn't screaming about this or that, could be a fine person... creature, to talk to.

"Oh Alex." She said, her voice soft over the hum of machinery. "Ya can't be serious." The thing in the tank started off on one of his tangents and with another giggle the blond skipped forward to press her lips to the cold glass. What a silly thing he was.

Oh, she knew what that meant. It meant Iene was jut worried about Sadie breaking something. It wasn’t as if that wasn’t perfectly reasonable.. Sadie barely understood why Irene hung around her. A disciple of Cohen she might be, but she was the one he barely cared for. The one who never met his expectations because she was too nervous, too bold, too clumsy, too slow, too.. much of a woman. It had taken a year or two to pound it into her head but by now she was fairly certain she was just entirely useless.

"I’m sorry, I’ll- sure. I’ll let you…" She sat. She twitched. She tapped her feet and bit her nails. At this point, this was how she was when she was relaxed. And when she thought about it, it really made the most sense to just stay out of Irene’s way before her existence broke something.

It was easy to forget that the other woman was, in any way, favored by the divine artist. She was mousy and small and sometimes Irene suspected her of being just a little too easy to break. A china doll that never really got the care it deserved.

The dancer began to hum under her breath. Nothing particularly exciting. Simply a song that had been on the radio earlier that day. Cooking was easy and while the fish baked she set the table. All that quite done and still some time before dinner the blond sat with a cheerful smile next to Sadie.

"Oh Darlin'," She chided softly, removing the other's nails from her mouth. "If ya do that ya're neva gonna have nails long enough to paint."

The woman breathed a sigh of relief. Carrying as many groceries as she really could use a hand. Then she turned to thank the man who'd spoken and went first white, then red.

"Oh!" Irene stumbled, almost losing the bags she carried. "M-Mr. Cobb, I uh... I think I'm fine, thanks. I don't wanna keep ya from anythin' important."

A Disciple of  The Cohen had noticed her. If it wouldn't be totally improper she'd have died from giddiness then and there.

Sadie blinked gratefully at the other woman, but it didn’t make matters much better. The fish were still disgusting, she couldn’t stand looking at their insides or- or their eyes, and.. she still felt sick.

"I-I’m sorry I’m such a bother." She muttered under her breath, wringing her hands nervously before she moved to wash them in the sink. She’d insisted on helping with dinner, but it really didn’t mean anything when she was too nervous to be more than a twitchy distraction.

"Here, I’ll- I’ll just get the table set so I’m not in your way.." Not that that wouldn’t be a painful process either, because the sound of the plates clinking together made Sadie twitch even worse. It was… sort of pathetic.

Irene resisted the urge to sigh. It would be rude to sigh at Sadie. Really, it would be rude to mention anything at all. But there were a limited number of dishes she owned with little money to buy new ones worth having.

She washed her hands quickly, plastering her face with that smile she'd learned from her mother. Sweet and polite and easily as fake as a silk flower. "Ya know? Why don' I do it Sadie? Ya're my guest after all. Ya just sit down on the couch there and I'll be out to join ya shortly."

There was something about the blond's interior design that was just short of truly tacky. The edge that Victorian women walked so carefully. Floral prints and gold leaf and dark wood and lace. Classy, if you asked her, but without a doubt molded by her mother's own taste more than a sense of actual design.

Irene bit her lip, trying to keep from laughing. “It’s just’a fish.” In fact, it wasn’t even a whole fish. More… half of a fish. It needed to be gutted and they were cheaper to buy whole and the blond woman had to save as much money as she could. She still needed to get her legs lengthened and the surgery was not inexpensive.

Absently, she brushed the viscera from the other's hand.

"If ya can't gut 'em, just leave 'em for me. I'll have dinner out soon 'nough."

Irene will not sleep with anyone without a ring on her finger first. She's a very proper woman she likes to think. There is exactly one exception to this rule. Irene is so 1) infatuated with and 2) seeking attention from once person that she would do literally anything he asked so that she could "bask in his artistic genius and maybe also get an actual part as a dancer on stage". 

Irene won't sleep with anyone until she's married. Except Sander Cohen.

[Meme] "Do you even know what you’ve done?"

The blond blinked for a long moment. Did she know this woman? Whoever she was there was obvious room for improvement at the Medical Pavilion. No. No she did know her. Didn’t know her as if they’d met. But had seen her on posters and once or twice on the television.

"Why, ya’re Tenenbaum." The dark haired woman had asked her something. The splicer wasn’t so sure she knew what the question was anymore. She blinked her large blue eyes as she looked around for answers. There was a floor. And a ceiling, which was good since they lived under the ocean. Walls. A tiny body covered in blood. Her hands, also covered in blood. Why did she have blood on her hands? That wasn’t right…

Something akin to panic rose in her quickly, stumbling backward on uneven feet until her back was pressed to a wall. Why did she have blood on her hands? What had she done? What was happening here?

Irene grabbed fistfuls of her matted hair, slamming her eyes closed and crying out. She didn’t remember. She would have never done anything bad. Never. She was a proper young lady and—-

ADAM. That was it. She was looking for it. And she’d not found it. And Tenenbaum was trying to distract her from it. That bitch.

On a dime the former dancers persona changed; glaring hot daggers at the geneticist. Trying to keep her from the ADAM. Trying to take it all for herself.
