Short DPXDC Prompts #501
Danny far too casually describes how to properly dissect someone while the batfam is listening.
Jason was actually working with the Bats, fuck him.
He was in some rundown bar, pretending to be drunk, with a comm in his ear that would not stop nagging him about proper undercover protocol.
He got that Dick was paranoid when it came to undercover work, he really did, but for fucks sake he knew what he was doing.
"-And you need to make sure you listen without looking like your paying attention to them at all, getting yourself involved with another conversation is best, but don't actually get involved in it-" "-Literally getting an autopsy was better than this." Jason sighed, knocking back his shot and reaching for the other.
"Nah, dissection is worse," The bartender disagreed, scaring the shit out of Jason. The man had literally no presence, Jason hadn't noticed him at all.
"They're the same fuckin' thing," Jason said warily, accidentally falling into the trap Dick had just been warning him about. He was no longer paying attention to the target.
"Is it? One is to find out how you died, the other is to find out how you work. An Autopsy is a tox screen and organ inspection on a corpse that can't feel it. A dissection is pinning the subject down, keeping them alive so you can watch the organs function, and peeling back the skin on their arms and legs to investigate how the tendons and ligaments work in tandem with the muscles." The bartender said all of that so casually, almost bored as he poured Jason another shot and gently placed it in front of him.
Jason didn't reach for it.
He was too focused on the strange scars that flashed at him from beneath the man's sleeve.
"So dissection is worse," the bartender concluded, leaning in close enough that Jason fought the urge to lean away. "And the guys in the corner are talking about warehouse 21A off of 54th. The driver was just complaining of a migraine, and their leader has had way more to drink than he should have, mister undercover cop."
With that, the bartender stood up and went to the other side of the bar, answering calls for more refills.
LOVE LOVE LVOE THIS SO MUCH FOR SO MANY REAONS
1 low-key but competent AF Danny
2 haaaa super hearing go brr
3 110% this would terrify the fuck out the bats
4 Jason being shook and immediately pulls out his phone to text them (can't answer over comms) -- new target whatever the hell this guy is
After relaying the information to the bats, Jason decides to get to know the bartender. 12 hours and several state lines away, neither Jason or Danny remember how much chaos they caused. Turns out, they only share one brain cell when together; and neither of them had it last night. Jason’s comm was found somewhere in Michigan, and Danny lost his phone in Wisconsin. But they both woke up in a random field in Kansas with no memory of getting there.
Jon & Martha Kent, calling Clark after quickly figuring out those were not normal people in their back pasture: "Black hair, blue eyes. Do these belong to a friend of yours?"
Ma *on the phone to clark*: Bruce really needs to let us know to expect company - he knows we’re happy to host anytime but a bit of warning is always appreciated
Clark: ma you can’t just blame Bruce every time a person with black hair and blue eyes show up under weird circum… *tuning into the heartbeats around the Kent farm* no wait that’s Bruce’s second son Jason *sighs*
Ma: I’m not senile yet Clark I have two eyes and know Damien’s brothers…
*Danny forgets himself due to the hangover and floats in view of ma and pa to get up off his back*
Ma: … dear are you sure one of them isn’t yours? And if they are you have some explaining to do about why we haven’t heard about our third grandchild until now
Clark: *bluescreening* whoever he is needs an ambulance - that’s the slowest heart rate I have ever heard on a person
Danny: M'not all human, heart rate's normal for me. Can someone turn off the sun? 'S too briiiight 😭
Jason: Ow. Do I wanna know where these bruises came from?
Danny: Oh, I gotchu buddy. *conjures ice over the bruises*
While neither of them remember it, there were at least 7 drunken ghost brawls that night. One of them was definitely with Vlad. Another one was with Pandora. Jason's last message to the others before ditching his comm was "Gonna follow a dead guy into hell now, bye!"
Whatever the Bats had been tracking to send Jason undercover for has long since been set aside in favor of searching for him.
Jason eventually sobers up enough to take stock of himself and his gear. He finds a bunch of summoning sigils in his pocket. Half of them don't have any kind of name on them. The ones that do have really weird names. Who the heck is Ghost Writer? Why is one of the sigils basically a fancy 13? Pandora can't be that Pandora, right??
