I think what I like to highlight or ponder most during the journey to Erebor is Thorin being a source of comfort for his nephews. Thorin rose to power at a very young age, he knows firsthand the awful feeling being trapped between youth and age, fear and responsibility.

Thorin being there as a source of warmth on cold nights. Watching over his nephews as they travel, giving them extra bites off his plate. Giving a reassuring word even when they insist it isn't necessary, knowing they may just be saving face.

Thorin and Fili taking long walks during their time in Rivendell, Fili asking questions about Thorin's experiences as a means to quell his concerns for his own future.

Kili feeling sincere shame for the teasing thrown at his archery preference, and it is only Thorin who can reassure him enough to pull him out of his misery.

Glassblowing Kíli? It's more likely than you think.

Just a snippet from an upcoming chapter of To Forge Hearth and Home that I am really loving. (This is being shared prior to editing, so please mind the mess. Lol.)

Kíli was in his workshop, with the beginnings of a project in mind. He hadn't been certain what he would do, until as if proverbially struck by lightning, he did.

So, after sketching out a basic idea prior to seeking out his glassblowing studio, Kíli set up to begin it.

Being a Dwarf, craftbound or not, the ability to create was integral to one's life. It was a part of Dwarrow blood and sinew; to go without felt like having removed a part of them.

Though Kíli loved archery, and took great joy in it, his craft was something different. Like him, it ran hot, and was a tempermental medium of art, but also, beautiful when complete. While he didn't much think himself that, what he could create from his work, he was proud of.
