This blog is run by a singular person, me! I use any pronouns. I am an artist, I paint, draw, and have a long history with photography and photo editing. I am an amateur art historian and I am majoring in education with the goal of eventually becoming an art teacher.
I don't personally do a lot of work with AI, but pretty much everyone in my family does, so I'm exposed to it pretty often. I know the basics of machine learning, LLMs, image generation, and AI training.
I accept submissions! You can submit AI or handcrafted art, please specify if you want it posted on its own or as a comparison. If you have a specific image you want it to be compared to, send that as well with a source. I prefer receiving them as DMs, if you send an ask, DM me to tell me if it's AI or not, if you don't tell me, I won't post it.
Just to make my own stances on a few things clear:
Art doesn't have a "soul", art is extremely personal to the artist and the audience so should be respected, AI training using art for a reference without the artist's consent isn't "theft" it's plagiarism and I feel that is an extremely important distinction, individuals using AI is not nearly as important or detrimental as mega companies using it for everything, AI being forced into everything is annoying and stupid, there's nothing wrong with being mad that your style was plagiarized, using chat bots for therapy is bad for you, I don't give a fuck if someone uses AI for personal use - my problem is with it being used to sell stuff or plagiarize
And finally, some ground rules!
Do not harass or insult anyone who submits art of any kind. Do not insult them for using AI. Do not insult them for their artistic skills. Don't be an asshole.
Don't harass the AI artists when the source is shared at the end of the poll.
Do not insult the appearances of any real people depicted or any AI people depicted. If you make fun of an AI person for its appearance, the AI won't hear you, but someone who might look like that will.
If I've used your art and you don't want it on here, let me know and I'll remove it.
I really really really really really fucking hate the word "clanker" or any other robot "slurs". I don't care how much you hate AI, why are you so giddy to use slurs. Slurs are bad. People who use slurs are the bad guys.
Any cosplaying real racism towards robots will result in an immediate block. "Rosa Sparks", "George Droid", "the Clink Clank Clan", "Clankers in the human bathroom", "We don't like your kind here" or anything like that. No warning, no discussion, you'll just be blocked. I have absolutely no patience for it.
I've been drawing digitally more and I'm so frustrated by the AI sleuthing and the fact that AI sleuthing is necessary because before if I made a small mistake in a random detail I'd just be like "eh I can leave it, no one will notice" but now whenever I do that I just hear someone saying "omg it's so obviously AI look at how inconsistent the side of the lab coat is 🙄🙄🙄" and I HAVE to fix it so like on one have at least I'm putting in more effort and trying harder but also I wish I could just be lazy without that fear lmao
YouTube commenters discover the concept of a hand being tilted at an angle.
Like I feel like if this were back in 2016, people would be seen as absolutely insane for thinking that a girl whose hand is at an angle has four fingers. This paranoia that some people have about AI seems to be destroying some people's critical thinking skills I swear lol.
Also, if this were AI, there would be much more obvious problems with the tattoos, the patterns on their clothes, their hair. Not the fact that you can't see all of the fingers on a hand that's at an angle...
Seeing this get notes again reminded me of when I was a little kid, I was at a Christmas party at my grandma's house and there was a family there with a baby who I'm guessing was around 6-8 months, and I spent like the whole party sitting on the couch and playing with this baby. He's literally all I remember about the party. And at one point, I saw that he only had four fingers on one of his hands, his mom told me he was born like that, I kept playing with him and didn't worry too much
That kid would be a teenager now, probably 16 if I remember my own age correctly. I already know that being a teenager sucks, but I can't imagine it feels great either to have people be weirded out and skeptical and leave comments about any picture of a person with four fingers
My probably naive theory about LLMs is that they're gonna go a similar route to streaming services where they spend a while offering their services for low cost or for free, but since they're completely unprofitable, the companies are gonna gradually jack up the price once people are reliant.
The naive part is that I don't think it will work at all like it did for streaming services, since there's already a huge number of people who are never gonna touch LLMs, and there will almost certainly be new regulations before too long, I can't see a future where everyone is willing to pay for it, especially not enough to break even, much less make a profit.
All I did was look up if there's a way to turn off AI on YouTube, I never once used the word slop, but the Gemini overview used it unprompted. AI is becoming self aware and the thing it's aware of is how much it sucks
I am once again begging people to realize that AI checker doesn’t work. it’s never worked. it’s notoriously known to have flagged human-made works as AI and AI-generated works as human-made. and by feeding it people’s works, you are feeding more works to AI, because apparently the machine itself is AI.
the only thing AI checker does is harm genuine artists and people in general too.
