“no?”
he’s all blue-eyed innocence at this point; and the fact that the act works occasionally, just proves what an underrated actor Manelli is. especially when he pretends to not want to keep this idiot in his bed forever, and never let him go again.
“you know me, I’m not good with subtle. if I wanted to blow you, I’d just tell you to your face. which, you know, has happened before.”
there’s a dash of childish joy mixing with the innocence at this point.
“yeah.” and his new, laughing smile is bright with stolen moments in public and in private, a happy selection from an album full of mixed memories. looking over at those bright eyes, he thinks manelli ought to have figured out by now that they don’t work on him like they might others ( and yet he still leans over to kiss him firmly, so it might be a matter of pride and not of truth ). “but it sounded a hell of a lot like ya want me to blow you for answers, which---” his lips drop, tongue finding the dip of his clavicle, “--- I’m honestly jus’ to proud to do.”

There is a moment, when her eyes land on Izzy, that she forgets all sense of decorum. And were it not for Eric’s hand, still firmly grasping hers, she most likely would have flown at him right then and there — all but tackling him with a hug. But Eric’s hand is there; a solid, weighted reminder, and so she refrains. Holds off. Takes a deep breath and even manages a smile or two for some of her husband’s colleagues.
But the moment the conversation reaches a point where she can slip away, she’s gone — snagging two glasses of champagne from a passing tray and handing one to Izzy when she appears in front of him.
“Please tell me you’re crashing. And even better that you stole the invitation off some asshole that you’ve stuffed into the wine cellar. Are the others here? Or is this a solo mission? An attempt at some one on one time with the Empire’s favorite star?”
As she finishes speaking, she sips at her drink, smirking over the rim. God, it’s good to see him. To see any of them. She’s really only been able to see Dino as of late and even then…someone was always around.
But now. Just talking to Izzy. She feels better than she has in weeks. Like she can finally breathe again.
Before, he might have thought succumbing to the influence of the Empire would be a dream-like impossibility, some sort of sluggish and false projection of himself. In its reality, his mind is startlingly clear -- he’s aware of his past convictions, but can see that he’d been deluded in them, knows now that he’s come to a true understanding of how the world is supposed to work.
He knows why Bex is excited to see him, particularly at an event he wouldn’t usually be allowed. Superiors assured he’d behave himself, he supposes he’ll be invited to many more in the future to show the compliance of a war hero. Somewhere in the crowd, Dino is here, but that’s an entirely different conversation to be had in private, not a room full of dignitaries. Before, he’d have happily disobeyed for a kiss and the thrill of disobeying, but now he sees the importance of being discrete for more than just their safety.
Things make more sense than they used to, and he’s thankful for the enlightenment.
Izzy takes the too-small glass, takes a long sip, and smiles the sort of smile she might expect him too. “Nah, managed to score an invitation from our hosts on my own merits. Nice to see how the other half lives.”
A beat, and the smile grows sharper. “What can I expect out of an event like this other than free drinks Frau Koenig?”
distraction failed, apparently. Manelli forunately doesn’t give up easily though; sneaks one hand to tug at those covers that still block his view of a magnificent ass attached to a very pretty man. he smirks against the warm, unshaven cheek, moves to nudge the tip of Izzy’s nose with his own.
“oh, I’d totally get down on my knees to find out.”
which probably doesn’t help Izzy’s agenda at all here, but then again — that’s the whole point, isn’t it?
manelli smiles like he’s won something, and in a way he has -- his resolve is slipping between his fingers like a handful of sand courtesy of that response. the little bump of their noses doesn’t help either, and continues in the vein of these touches with a palm settling on the ridge of his jaw. he feels like he regrets settling down on his front, but is too comfortable to move. head tipping back, his eyebrows rise in false surprise. nothing much manelli says manages to surprise him anymore. “that a crappy excuse for a subtle suggestion?”

his shirt sleeve sops up somebody’s —— money’s on dugan’s —— spilled beer. it darkens his elbow, seeps into his war-torn skin. and as bucky turns, more of the golden stuff laps over the top of his mug and widens the puddle that bleaches the old wood.
he has an ash-stacked cigar decorating his second knuckle.
tobacco and liquor and gunpowder hang around him in a cloud.
but he’s loose like his gaping jacket, his undone buttons sagging like a sigh because today, they have made it one more battle. they’re still alive with their h earts beating.
’ say, izzy!
he hollers across the bar, sparks flicking as the grey of his victory smoke fall with the cup of his hand.
’ get on over here or you’re buyin’ the next round. i wanna see which one of us has got a crack shot when it comes to darts.
the steely adrenaline of a battle fought lightens with the elation of victory, both giving way to the heavy seep of beer and whiskey into his bloodstream. early in the evening he'd drunk and sung with the stolen energy of those defeated -- now the flash of his teeth in the musty bar are slower, his words dragged at the edges. izzy cohen is glad to be alive. all of them are. he's between claps on falsworth's back when bucky calls loud over the chatter and the scrape of chairs on filthy floors (a congratulations for some shot taken or other). his look up gives jack the break he needs to shove away for less boisterous company, and izzy palms his empty glass as he winds around a table or two, trades it across to his other hand to wipe the perspiration on shot up fatigues. it clinks when it joins a stack on the bar to bucky's right. "i've just about had enough to drink to take you on, buck."
diariomaximo:
Scruffy barely is an accurate term; quite insulting actually. Dino considers himself a victim of circumstance right now — said circumstance being that it’s been pissing down for days, and there’s some general surprise lingering throughout the camp, that the tents are still standing rather solid.
A surprise he understands, though surely won’t complain, when he slips into the semi-dark and fortunately very dry space he shares with Izzy.
"Pretty sure light doesn’t work that way, Iz."
Manelli makes sure to shake his dripping head just close enough to hit Cohen with a few droplets, and then proceeds to nick a part of the hard-earned bread. Because he can. Simple as that.
Circumstance is irrelevant to Izzy - usually carefully arranged hair is hanging curled and wet, and it amuses him in a way that would probably get him a whack if he did anything more than grin across the tent at him. ( He gets his payback when Manelli flicks water at him like a wet dog), "Pretty sure you don't now any better." A lazy arm sweeps out to retaliate the stolen pinch of bread, wrist catching the back of Dino's knee. As far as he's concerned, he's not going to be moving far for the rest of the night. The weather's putting them behind schedule, sure, but it does give them a convenient chance to rest. "Still pissin' down out there, then?"
diariomaximo:
isadorecohen liked for a starter
Manelli puts way too much effort into this, and he knows it. A perfectly straight nose, knitted brows, the few strands of hair that have fallen out of the bun, all perfectly positioned, the light reflected on the shiny coat of the old machine he’s working on — he’d call it a product of boredom; a doodle he does whilst watching Izzy tinker with yet some other bike.
The sound of the pen scraping over paper is almost lulling, soothes him as it usually does; and it’s not the first drawing he’s ever made of Cohen, though he’d strongly deny that.
Blue eyes look up from the paper again, check another little detail on Izzy’s face — not that he has to; he knows those features by heart — and then focus back on the drawing; feet up on the workbench whilst sitting comfortably on some cheap camp-chair.
Everything’s quiet for a change. A little peace they both deserve. And Izzy has yet to realise that he’s become the latest model for Dino’s sketch exercise.
Tinkering affords Izzy a peace he can't relate to much else - it soothes the knotted tension in his shoulders to engage in the motions of an activity he's devoted the better part of fifty years to. It's not an absence of thought that relaxes him, but how easily he jumps from problem to solution. It's nice to have something as constant as this hard-worked habit.
Dino's presence, on the other hand, is usually overstimulating, difficult to concentrate entirely on something else while he's in the room. Now, though, in this lazy late-night silence in the corner of one of his garages, it's a non- issue.
He steps back to swipe the back of his wrist over his forehead, a chance glance over to his work bench catching Manelli with busy fingers and eyes trained on the pad in his hand. Though not inclined to pry, he's eager to break the silence.
"Whaddya think? Should I sell her when I'm done, or keep her for a ride?"
diariomaximo:
“excuse you, asshole. when have I ever been sappy?”
it is solely between them, that asshole can be considered a term of endearment. true endearment, unfortunately; and both would rather bite their tongue off, than admit to it. move he does, however. lips trailing a lazy path across the jaw, a small detour across the sensitive skin of his neck, and he nips at his earlobe. a perfect distraction technique — or so he thinks — to stop any further questions about that effing name in his phone.
"a lot, lately."
izzy's eyes slip closed, a contented hum held between his lips. lying on his front, he can't do much, but lifts his arm at the angle he has to work with to card his hands through manelli's (shorter) hair. as close together as they are, the small sound of approval at the bite is loud in the space between them. only a minute ago, he'd been sure he'd be in manelli's position right now. "how'd you like it if i came up with somthin' for you and would't tell you?"
abrooklynbrat:
Despite the years that now separated Bex and the other Commandos from the events of the war, there will still times when the pain felt as fresh as ever. When it felt like only yesterday she had been standing between Steve and Jack at a makeshift grave site. Or listening as Steve’s voice gave way to static.
Summer was one of those times — especially the week proceeding the Fourth of July. So she wasn’t particularly surprised when Izzy showed up at her door, but she was grateful.
"Does joyriding mean I get to drive it?"
A hopeful lilt to her both is better than a broody flatness, so Izzy excuses her for not jumping up and down on the spot. "So long as you don't crash it," he says, shoulders shrugging as he steps away from the low door. "It's a 1958, so she'd be a bitch to repair." It's said with a smile curling up the edges of his lips -- he's the one that taught her to drive, and though the boys doubt both of their skills, she's now a great combative and defensive driver. It's everyone else on the road he's worried about. "Keys are in the ignition."
agenths:
"Hmm— I’m going to have to say zero.”
"C'mon, buddy; you know I'd take good care of 'em."
Stop and wait a sec, Oh when you look at me like that my darling, What did you expect, I probably still adore you with your hands around my neck, Or I did last time I checked
Love hunt me down I can’t stand to be so dead behind the eyes And feed me, spark me up A creature in my blood stream chews me up

he smells him before he sees him, a scent he knows better than his own, thick and demanding amongst those typical of his cell. he's so used to them by now that they fade typical of the cell he's gotten so used to. to echo it's like a drop of blood in water; he straightens, lopes to the metal bars with a stiff slowness belying the shackles on wrists and ankles. he thinks delta will take them off for him.
as close as he can get to the bars he waits as the door slides back, teeth bared in welcome and caution. they're still in unfriendly territory together.
