Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āĀ I guess. Though no more than Togruta or Twiāleks are. Iām sure thereāve been others like myself and Maul - But a lot of History was lost from most mainstream sources when the Empire took over. ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āĀ And where Iām from on Dathomir, we mostly live in forested areas. Or in huts. Even shuttles feel⦠Odd. Unnatural. Too⦠Whatās the word⦠Synthetic?Ā ā
āHistory tends to be the most common casualty of war,ā Thrawn mused, sounding a little regretful.Ā āCulture as well, even if it is not the intended outcome of conflict.ā
He tried imagining the world of Dathomir, where this warrior had come from, but he knew too little of it to even begin. Someone had taken great pains to cover the history of Dathomir in the Imperial archives, as heād never come across more than a few mentions in his research of various cultures and art.Ā
āI have been on ships most of my life,ā he said, folding his hands behind his back once more.Ā āI am quite used to the angles and hard surfaces of starships.ā
Fatal Flaws: aka this quiz
Fatal flaw: Youāre too clever by half. (Who here is surprised)
Your intelligence is unmatched, but your smart mouth is going to get you into trouble one of these days. Everyone says so. Odds are youāll make one witty remark too many and meet a tragic, easily preventable end that surprises no one in the least. Youāll be mourned, of course, but we all saw it coming, and you kind of deserved it. [Lol canon much?]

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Itās not uncomfortable⦠but strange.Ā Ā Ā ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā The alien shrugged softly, adjusting the wrapped linen around her torso. Her upper garments were a flowing but constricting cloth, a bit of her mid-piece exposed as her lower garments were made of wrapped linen.
She came from a tribe on dathomir⦠what did one expect?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Iām used to being outdoorsā¦. It feelsā¦. Unnatural, here. As for what Iām doing⦠I think itās something to do with me being my race and force sensitive. The empire takes an interest in us sensitive Dathomirean, ever since Maulā¦Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā
āSo your people are mostly outdoors,ā Thrawn mused.Ā āMy own people, until we colonised other planets, live under ice, in cave networks. We have very different habitats.ā
He tilted his head at her mention of Maul.
āI never met Maul. He was not with the Empire when I joined the Imperial Navy. Are your people normally Force Sensitive?ā

āThere wonāt be,ā that had been surprisingly easy, which meant Mara had either walked into the open jaws of the Rancor or Thrawn didnāt really care about Skywalker or Karrde the way both men thought they did.Ā
Jorj Carādas? A small frown pulled at her lips. Sheād heard the name but she was woefully unprepared to answer extensive questions about him.Ā āI havenāt heard much, up and coming smuggler. Disappeared for a while and when he came back had a ruthlessness that rivaled the Hutts. I think thatās where Karrde picked up his love of information, learned how valuable it could be.ā Mara shrugged,Ā āThen he disappeared again. I donāt know much,ā and what she did know was thanks to Karrde promoting her to second in command.Ā āBut I can find out more.āĀ
Mara was goodĀ at finding out information. Above all things she served the Emperor as an investigator. While her skills might be a little rusty from years of disuse but ⦠if Thrawn backed her she could use all sides to get him whateverĀ information he wanted. Empire, Smugglers, even the Republic as Skywalker owedĀ Karrde for his life.Ā
āWhat do you need to know about him?ā
Thrawn could see her thinking, searching her memory, and he waited, patient. If anyone knew where Carādas was, it was Karrde- and possibly Mara Jade. It was information he himself was unable to find- being in the upper echelons of the Empire kept the fringe from being... open to questions without the aid of a full interrogation.Ā
And that never really worked, unless his goal was to scare any other leads into hiding.
āThat is the scope of my knowledge as well,ā Thrawn replied, his answer careful. Of course he knew Carādas well, and much longer than anyone else, but there was no need to divulge that intel unless it was necessary.Ā āAll I know is that he vanished.ā
He gave Mara Jade a long, careful look, weighing his options, deciding what to tell her and what to keep closed off.Ā
āCarādas is an acquaintance of mine, and he has knowledge of past events- as well as documentation of those events- that I need. My attempts to find him have been unsuccessful. What I need to know is where he went.ā
A slight smile- possibly more of a smirk.
āHelp me find at least a lead on where he may be, and I will give you what you asked for.ā

She had served with power and authority as the Emperorās Hand, her loyalty to the Emperor alone. Of courseĀ she could still be useful to the Empire. She was remarkably skilled at subterfuge, espionage, and assassination. Those skills neverĀ went out of use to anyone, and surely not a tactical genius like Thrawn.Ā
The only problem was her loyalty lied elsewhere now. And once given, Maraās loyalty was hard to lose.Ā
āNo, I imagine I never would have been granted the position I was if I wasnāt the best.ā Most people would confess to crimes at just the thoughtĀ of Imperial torture. Mara had learned how to withstand it at a very young age, and she was proud of that.Ā
She lifted an eyebrow, that was a fine deal. Though the Empire relied on smugglers these days as much as he New Republic tried to collect them.Ā āAnd immunity for Karrde himself for the business with Skywalker on Myrkr.ā She added.Ā āWe were trying to stay distinctly neutral, Iām sure you understand that we do a lot of business with both the Empire and the New Republic. It was never our interest to get involved.āĀ
And had it been up to Mara they would have simply killed him.Ā āGrant him that, and Iāll tell you whatever you want to know.āĀ
āIndeed. And it is that calibre of ability and quickness of mind that I seek now,ā Thrawn replied, watching the eyebrow lift, knowing she was weighing the deal in her mind, judging pros and cons, testing angles to seek traps in his offer.
Ah. There it was. He had expected it, but was not opposed to letting that matter go. Skywalker was no longer his concern. Not at the moment, and likely would not be for some time.
āI understand the desire of fringe elements to stay neutral. My people seek the same stance, but some of us get pulled into politics we have no desire to be part of. Very well, Mara Jade. I shall forget it happened, and I will turn a blind eye to his organisation- provided there are no further mishaps similar to the Myrkr incident.ā
His face went from emotionless to cold, calculating.
āI want to know about Karrdeās predecessor. Tell me what you know of him. What you know of Jorj Carādas.ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Nodding, the Zabrak murmured the words he had said under her breath. Repeating the phrase of his name several times before deciding she had gotten the pronunciation somewhat like what he had said. Deciding it was good enough and speaking,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āNice to meet you, Mitthārawānuruodo. So uh⦠might I ask what exactly Iām doing here?ā
Thrawnās eyebrows lifted slightly in surprised satisfaction as she did a fair job of pronouncing his name.Ā
āThat, I cannot say. Perhaps you would like to enlighten me as to what it is you do? Additionally, I do apologise if your stay on the Chimaera has been anything less than comfortable.āĀ
make me choose: anon asked Hux, Thrawn, or Tarkin?
There are things in the universe that are simply and purely evil. A warrior does not seek to understand them, or to compromise with them. He seeks only to obliterate them.

Favorite Thrawn Moments: (5/?) The ISD Chimaera
The Chimaera was the custom Star Destroyer of Grand Admiral Thrawn and the flagship of the Seventh Fleet. It featured a large, decorative engraing on the underside of its hull of a chimaera, a monstrous three-headed creature. Additionally, it was not uncommon for crew members to wear stylized symbols of a chimaera on their uniforms as a statement of their loyalty to Thrawn.
hopetouched:
Ā Ā Ā There was a small innate joy that overcame the Sithling when he saw the light confusion that twisted the admiralās features if only for a millisecond. Unseen brows raise once again with amusement before he settled.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā "There are certain expectations upon me when greeting an honoured guest. I can tell you in earnest I have no way of knowing how my Master had acquired materials for me to study your language, but one does not look a gift horse in the mouth, as it were. Iām unsure if it was a cruel joke to force me to learn humility in speaking anotherās language or to simply encourage manners. Regardless of that answer, I understand how privileged I am to have you here.ā It was not often he removed the metaphorical mask, being honest and open with someone else, much less a stranger. Hux barely got a serious response to anything and heād known the man for years. Knowing that this man, Admiral Thrawn, had known his grandfather, however, had made his demeanor change entirely. While not entirely amicable and friendly, Ben became much more careful and particular with his words and actions.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā "Powerful indeed..ā Musing over the statement, he felt a vibration deep in his palms, almost like that of an itch. āHe left many great plans in the Imperial archives that we were able to recover. A way to finish what he started.ā
Ā Ā Ā The itching in his palm grew stronger, fingers flexing into a fist to try and sate the feeling. āYou knew him well, I assume? Were you an advisoryĀ for him?ā
Thrawn was curious as to how this Master of the man before him- Kylo Ren- had gained access to his peopleās language and customs. Had perhaps Grand Admiral Sloane and Mitthāailāinrokini given him access? Or had Sloane, taught by Vanto, passed this knowledge to her ward, Armitage, who then shared the basics with the higher ups of the First Order? It was something heād have to look into.Ā
āIt is appreciated to have customs honoured,ā he settled on saying. He would voice his concerns with General Hux later- if not Sloane herself.Ā
He could sense the excitement in Ren, see his stance shift with an unspoken eagerness, his fingers flexing to control the outward emotions in his body language. He could also see the glow of his body heat intensify in his face, a flush of excitement, a hunger for knowledge.Ā
āI met him shortly after I was rewarded with the title of Grand Admiral- right after I accepted the rank, in fact. I was more an adviser for the Emperor regarding the Unknown Regions, but there were tasks that Lord Vader required my assistance for, and I did make a few recommendations for him,ā Thrawn replied.Ā āHe was a warrior, there was no doubt of that. Strong convictions, and great power and confidence.ā
Thrawn left out short-tempered, capricious, and vengeful. He also left out the fact that he had originally met him when he was Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight, during the Clone Wars. He had the feeling this Kylo Ren would not appreciate such opinions or facts.Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā āIt isnāt knowledge simply limited to the Empire, or the Ascendancy.. Even Republic records dating back thousands of years have mention of it. I suppose that information became more scarce to anyone not invested in history.. I didnāt, and donāt, have many friends. So I just read and seek knowledge most of the time. Occupies the mind, so to speakā¦ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Giving a nod and soft smile, she opened her eyes gradually. Leaning forward off the wall and extending her hand.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āCan just call me Cali..Or Caliae if you wanna be fancy. Nice to meet you Mr uhā¦.What was your name again?ā
āA commendable hobby,ā Thrawn replied, his tone sincere.Ā āI, too, have the desire to learn of other species and societies when I can, though my methodsĀ and subjects of study are not usually records, but art.ā
Thrawn stared at her hand for a moment, then extended his own- but grasped her wrist instead of the hand, giving it a firm, but respectful squeeze with his gloved hand.
āCāaliae,ā he repeated, then,Ā āCaliae,ā correcting himself as the tendency for glottal stops after certain consonants in his own language had them manifesting in others.Ā
āI greet you, Caliae. I am Mitthārawānuruodo, though Thrawn will suffice, as many non-Chiss find the name hard to pronounce.ā

He was no less awe inspiring now than he had been when heād risen to the rank of Grand Admiral. For an alien to rise so high in the Empire ⦠he had to be more than extraordinary, and Mara knew well that Thrawn was. Even still she kept all emotions off her face, he was a tactician she didnāt want to give him anything to work with if she could help it.Ā
āThe Emperor is dead, my old title died with him,ā she said. Just as her old lifeĀ had died with him. Mara had managed to carve out a new life, a life she didnāt want to loose with Karrde and his organization and that all went crashing down around her ears the second sheād been captured.Ā
Mara did indeed know that if Thrawn wanted her alive it was certainly because she was more valuable that way. And that he had a far cooler disposition than Vader did.Ā āI was always relatively safe from Lord Vader,ā sheād been the Emperorās agent after all. Vader couldnāt just killĀ her without a very good excuse.Ā
āYouāre under the assumption I would be an asset. And that you can gain any more information from me alive than dead. I learned how to resist interrogation young, Admiral. Even the late Lord Vader couldnāt take anything from my mind that I didnāt want to give up. So⦠if you want information there will have to be some give and take here.ā
āPerhaps,ā Thrawn replied, still studying her face for any reaction to the statement, looking for any clues or betrayal of expression that might give away her feelings about the Emperorās demise.Ā
āSurely that does not mean your usefulness to the Empire has died along with that title.ā
A flash of something- was it amusement?- twitched over Thrawnās lips at her admission of being safe from Vader. Heād had that sameĀ āimmunityā due to his own position, but only from Vader. The Emperor had been a whole other story.
āAstute as always, Mara Jade,ā he commented, his tone polite.Ā āI know the Emperor would not have utilised you if you were so easily broken and sifted through. It was good fortune I found you, as your employer is much harder to get a hold of.ā
His eyes narrowed, but in thought, not malice.
āI need information that, if you cannot give me, you can acquire from Karrde himself, and pass on to me. In return, I will loosen the reins I have on your organisationās trade routes, turn a blind eye, so to speak, provided that nothing of value is taken directly from the Empire.ā
