As much as I defend people's rights to write whatever they want, I gotta say it disturbs me how touchy people who write rape fics depicting minors are when you so much as imply that shouldn't exist in mainstream fandom spaces. It shouldn't, period. You shouldn't put your stuff untagged on the main fandom tag, it's as simple as that. Hell, I'd go as far as to say you shouldn't use the main tag at all.

I was exposed to this type of content when I was like nine because back then there were no tags, no warnings, no filters, nothing. I do believe it damaged me and to this day affects the way I perceive sexuality. And before you come at me about my internet experience being my or my parents' responsibility, I'm talking about fanart and fanfiction made for media that was FOR KIDS. That's just sick.

Like, fuck off, man. You're allowed to like kids media. You're allowed to write explicit rape fanfiction about kids media even, as creepy as that is. But why can't y'all be discreet about it? Keep it in AO3, discord servers, and private chats. Like bffr, who do you think is looking for fan made works of My Little Pony? Have some common sense.

people saying “don’t use your full government name for your ao3”, “create different emails for work and personal use” but personally I think it’s both sad and dystopian how capitalism/companies/even schools think they have the rights to cross your personal boundaries and insert themselves into your personal life. like, I get it, safety wise, why checking digital footprints can be important sometimes. but a gay fanfiction is not a fucking threat that could ever cause anybody harm. it’s funny (not really, it’s still sad and dystopian) how they now think they can control your personal life and prevent you from having hobbies

I think it has more to do with the fact that fanfiction usually depicts "erotic literature". People are going to be wary of hiring you, if you participate in any way in the production of adult content.

the natural lifespan of a fandom is unlimited. when well tended a fandom can be functionally immortal. and yet everywhere you look you see newly bred fandoms withering and dying when they’re barely a year old. barely even six months old. fans are looking at their six month old fandoms and saying i think it’s on its last legs, should i euthanise it? when with the proper care that fandom could outlive them for decades. it’s sad. sad state of affairs we’re in.
