Hello everyone! It's been a while, hu! (A year or more, I KNOW). I've been pretty busy with life and other things. And I've been really deeply involved in my job. I spent the last 8 months training to be a 3D animator, then managed to get the job. Anyway! I'll post a few doodles from 2024 in the next few days and I'm going to turn this blog into a blogart.

"Copy, Moon Joy"

I wasn't there for Apollo; I'm totally here for Artemis. I'm still processing the flyby of the far side of the Moon by a crew full of love and humanity.

“Isiloup” comes from “Isil,” which means “Moon” in Quenya. Yes, yes—the language of Tolkien's Elves. “Isil” is also that blue-haired character you might sometimes spot here and there. They've been with me since the start of my artistic journey. They're one of my first original characters, one of the few I’ve kept, and my absolute favorite.

ANYWAY, I've loved the Moon for so long, and hearing those four astronauts up there describe what they see with all the wonder they can muster was truly moving. I've been following them since they took off—I'm going to miss them so much. There's such a great vibe in that little capsule as it speeds back toward us. I'm going to miss them so much <3

i still think most of royai’s falling in love happened after riza became his adjutant. i’m on ch 62, the war is over, roy just told riza it’s her right to shoot him if he betrays her again. she had no idea he intended this and until he called her into his office to tell her his plan to have her be his bodyguard, he hadn’t even spoken to her after ishval (he wasn’t aware she chose to stay in the military). and i think when they were young they had a peripheral awareness of one another at best. roy knew her name, but knew nothing of her relationship with her father, her family, her mother, etc. i think it’s safe to say she was somewhere else during his apprenticeship and/or the apprenticeship didn’t take place at the hawkeye home. they were essentially acquaintances until she joined team mustang. when riza sees him on the battlefield she even has to ask if he “remembers” her. he says of course he does, but even her having to ask implies their presence in each others lives was minuscule. it’s so interesting because then you gotta wonder how and why they fell in love during their service. when did they manage to have conversations about their past? when did they realize they were in love? is “in love” even a good enough descriptor for what they are? like i neeeeed arakawa to elaborate on royai lol

remember though that their early relationship isn't just the apprenticeship, it's him learning flame alchemy. she trusted him with one of alchemy's biggest secrets, and he spent days staring at her naked back to learn it. and then he probably stayed out there to practice and master it, right? it's supposed to be a secret; i don't think he would've practiced it anywhere someone could possibly snoop and copy him. staying out there until he learned it makes the most sense to me. idk if they fell for each other then, but if i as a teenage girl let a boy stare at my naked back for days on end because i trusted him with the world-destroying secrets tatooed there that drove my father to madness, i wouldn't have a word for what that boy was to me. i would hope we were at least friends, considering the magnitude of what i gave him, but what if it didn't mean as much to him as it did to me?

that's why her asking "do you even remember me?" read as insecurity to me. she's not asking if he remembers the child he saw around the house during his apprenticeship. she's asking if he remembers the girl who bared herself for him, the girl who treated his burns, the girl who forced him to eat and sleep while he studied and practiced and failed and triumphed. she's asking if it all mattered to him the way it did to her.

so if any of that's true, i think they already had a pretty solid base for...i hesitate to say "falling" in love because they already trust each other so intimately that there's nowhere left to fall???? like they're more...building the connection i guess??? fleshing out a concrete sketch??? like what are they if not inevitable y'know

yeah and you can read it like this but tbh it would just be conjecture. what we know from the canon is they don’t talk to one another like they’re particularly close until after she joins team mustang. even interpreting her “do you remember me?” as her asking if their time meant to him as it did to her is conjecture because we simply don’t know if they spent any amount of time together at all.

because you could just as easily say he spent a few hours copying the arrays down from her back with the promise to destroy them when he’s done (she’s already trusted him with the alchemy — there would be no reason not to trust he would do this) and went somewhere else to practice and learn. and we don’t even know if he needed to practice much? ed does new alchemy things all the time without practice. al picked up the clapping alchemy within a chapter. roy too, at the end. we just don’t know

which is the fun of royai imo. we get to make so much of it up lol
