Shout Out Louds - Blue Ice The Ice Record Project
Develop a single underlying system that allows for a unified experience across platforms and device sizes. Mobile precepts are fundamental, but touch, voice, mouse, and keyboard are all first-class input methods.
This series was developed as part of the Jerwood Maker’s Open commission and inspired by the geometry of archetypal forms and their association with the elemental forces of earth, air, fire, water and aether. Technically, these pieces build on the layering process developed for the Moire Matrix series: a masonry saw is used as a milling machine, the glass embryo cast into plaster at a specific angle, placed on a moving platform and passed under the spinning blade many hundreds of times to create a flat surface that is then ground and polished by hand.
TTI, (standing for Tangible Textural Interface) is a new sound system that embeds a tactile surface. TTI has flexibility that enables people to physically touch and feel the response through the controls and physical morph of the surface.
Cymatics is the study of visible sound and vibration. The phenomenon is visualized through various materials: powder on rigid surfaces, fluids, liquid paste and also digital imaging techniques.

Use of space as a compositional element in music has received wide attention for decades, especially among electronic and computer musicians. Shaff's contribution lies in his realization that, if one is truly serious about utilizing space in music, one must configure the performance environment in ways that are inconceivable in a typical concert hall. Shaff and McEachern created the AUDIUM theater as an interactive environment for the exploration of sound in space. AUDIUM enables Shaff to develop and produce his finely crafted compositions, utilizing the results of their research. These remarks and the following interview are an attempt to bring his pioneering work to the attention of friends of these ideas.

The system is composed of an array of "optical-hair modules", each of which senses range information and transduces it as an appropriate vibro-tactile cue on the skin directly beneath it (the module can be embedded on clothes or strapped to body parts as in the figures below).
Tactile maps for the blind require the same research as any other design reject, namely first-hand knowledge of what the end-user wants. It is far to seductive to believe that you can simply take a visual map and simplify it.

The beauty lies in the fact that functionality has an equal weighting with form. The seeing see the art, the craft, the style. The partially sighted feel with fingertips and the soles of their feet, hear the echoes of vaulted ceilings, hear the lost sounds in the timbered main hall and touch wall textures. The floor tiles contain different textures - you feel through your feet, the tiles are placed in a pattern of red and white visually indicating when you are no longer following a straight line (many visually impaired can see to some degree). The pews in chapel are marked with intricate carving - a tactile indicator and an aesthetic detail.
This section addresses the creation of tactile maps, including their design and method of production. Starting with a brief look at the history of tactile maps, it explores the advantages of various styles, materials, and techniques, from simple relief maps through online mapping and high-tech developments.
For 25 years, we've been promised a connected world, but progress doesn't seem to match the glowing predictions.
The composite materials integrate the capabilities of both input sensing and active shape output. This is enabled by the composites’ multi-layer structures with different mechanical or electrical properties. The shape changing states are computationally controllable through pneumatics and pre-defined structure.
Technology for the blind is still very limited, but a new smartphone may very well change the way the visually impaired interact with the rest of the world.
