WEEK 94: SCHOMBURGK'S DEER

Greetings, knitters-and/or-cryptozoologists of tumblr! You are looking once again at the Crypt-A-Long, a tribute to mysterious beasties of all stripes and spots. A co-worker of mine requested a cryptid from her family's home of Thailand, so here we have Schomburgk's Deer. This species is thought to have died out in the 1930s, after massive deforestation robbed it of its habitat. However, like the Thylacine in Tasmania, sightings continue and people have found sets of antlers that appear to be only recently shed. Fingers crossed.

Time for a progress update on the Jester socks - it’s getting too long now to fit on my photoshoot table! However I have finished the bee/flower charts and added the heel flap and turn, so now they fit nicely (well, about 2/3 of them fits nicely) on the sock blocker. From here on out it’s just gusset decreases and the foot, which is a nice, easy checkerboard pattern until I get to the toe. That multicolor yarn from the sampler pack that didn’t work at all in the fair isle charts (because it shifts colors so dramatically itself, including parts where it was nearly the same off-white as the background yarn) made a lovely heel! Now to see if it lasts for the rest of the foot or if I have to switch to the light grey that was the last yarn in the pack…
