figured out the paper piecing software enough to start making a bunch of bread tag blocks. Unsure if the entire quilt is going to be bread tags or if I'm going to make some bread blocks. Could also be a junk drawer quilt. Much to think about
Four more bread tags! Still have no clue the direction I'm going with this and its taken the back burner for the moment while I work on a commissioned quilt. I'll be back to it soon as I'm almost done with the commission.

There's this pattern on Ravelry that had been elluding me for several years at this point. I'd come back to it in between projects quite frequently. Hühner is German for "chickens," and the uploader left a note that they're not even sure they spelled the designer's name correctly. It was published in a 2007 magazine. There's no photo, just a brief description of the pattern as "3-dimensional chickens on a lace doily base."
I really like chickens, and I really like crocheting lace, so I was intrigued and curious.
In my head, I really pictured something like Swans Symphony, by the The Needlecraft Design Center from 1980.
From Ravelry, it seemed somewhat likely that Sabrina Tous les Ouvrages 108 and Diana Robótki, 2/2008 were the same set of patterns, just published in French and Polish respectively (but the chickens were mysteriously missing despite most other patterns being the same ...). I did find the French magazine on eBay at one point, but the seller could not help me when I asked whether there were chickens inside.
Now is possibly a good time to mention I really can only read English. I know a tiny, tiny bit of French but that's really it. I was really, really hoping the pattern was charted or otherwise easy to read. I ended up asking someone who knew both German and French to see if they could maybe find the publisher's website, and whether they had an archive/online subscription, but nothing came up.
Ultimately I did just find a copy of Dekoratives Häkein, Nr. 74. It's an E@ster pattern, which explains maybe why it wasn't in the other magazines with mostly the same patterns. It's also....not anything like Swan Symphony.
The 3D bit is, quite frankly, poorly constructed (believe it or not, from bottom up, so there's three different parts that need to be seamed), and then the thread is broken and reattached at the bottom to make the most boring diamond mesh doily base :(
i think the luckiest moment of my life - at least, the luckiest moment i'm aware of & can remember - was when i poured HOURS of wrist-grinding labor into nålbinding baby socks with no pattern & vague measurements pirated off a machine-made baby sock, and they turned out weirdly long and skinny. and then the baby was born with such weirdly long and skinny feet that the only socks that fit him were the ones i made. what a very specific little lottery to win.

I'm finished with the bottom edging of my dress and I'm very happy so far. I can't wait to be finished to be able to wear it! It combines the patterns Kells and Lindisfarne by Lucy Hague, with added short rows and a box pleat. The yarn is malabrigo Rios and Louet Gems sportweight.
