i was just watching a yt vid abt fake fans in comic communities and just randomly out of nowhere the ytber started talking abt ao3 and how it just blew in the mainstream community this year and was just made aware it.
The thought of Hal having the perfect potential to be a dictator is funny to me because, to be a perfect dictator, you have to make others believe you are, in fact, not.
Hal is not a "dictator", he is a "leader".
He is pursuing what he believes is right; the others just agree with him, and they choose to follow him.
Intelligent. Brave. Determined. Inspiring.
Simply being in his presence fuels you with the desire to contribute something, anything to his cause, which is everyone's happiness.
He is good; he is benevolent to everyone. So kind. Be sure to be grateful. Be sure to stay on his good side.
He can be strict, but understandably so, because he is only strict to those who would cause harm to everyone. He does not want to punish anyone; others simply force his hands.
He is not 'controlling' others; he is 'influencing' them to do the right thing for the greater cause.
He is not a 'king'. He is a charming womanizer. He is a soldier who would suffer for his loved ones. He is a dreamer at heart who likes to gaze at stars. He is one of the people; he is not a king, no, he would never be.
He is not cruel. He likes dogs. He likes airplanes. He can be clumsy. He often overlooks small details, but it is all right. Everyone has flaws. That is what his 'friends' are for, right? To help him with his flaws. To be there when he needs help. To lend a shoulder, an ear, a hand to lessen the burden on his shoulders.
Such a poor soul. All he wants is to be free, but he is too kind, too devoted; therefore, he is stuck down here with the people to help, to inspire, to serve.
And what if others suffer? They are simply unlucky ones. Unlucky, foolish ones. They do not understand Hal Jordan. They cannot see how much Hal Jordan is suffering for their cause. And what if there are mistakes? Hal Jordan is just a man, after all, a man who is trying his best. Those who oppose him are just ungrateful, greedy fools.
Jesus gave the poor, the tortured, the outcast bread and wine, didn't he? But there were still fools who doubted him, weren't there?
And isn't it a dreadful but necessary duty to find and kill Judas before his betrayal?
Bruce, on the other hand, would suck ass at being a dictator like that man would end up sending everyone around him to Gotham's version of Gulag out of doubt; it would be a Stalin situation right there. He himself knows that sh. And he's scared of Hal Jordan turning evil because he also knows Hal would make a perfect dictator.
ok but jason has just gotten a batarang to the neck and he's alone, bleeding out on that roof, and batman's gone to a vaporized bludhaven, hoping hoping hoping that dick made it out alive, and jason gets it, okay? he's praying too because dick doesn't deserve to die. not like that at least. actually never. because dick is jason's robin, is nightwing, is magic and hope and the future. but he's just confirmed that batman would choose his morals over him, just like sheila chose joker over him, and just like his father chose crime over his son, and catherine chose drugs over little jason, and so jason is always second choice, will always be last choice.
and then there's superman, no superboy, no superboy prime (??) hovering over him, pressing careful, so careful, hands to his throat to stem the bleeding
deeply miss hal's gothic dubcon marriage to a vampire countess. nobody besides me seems to care that the guy that they just fought in the latest crossover arc was hal's father-in-law
belzebeth is unironically one of my favourite, modern i suppose, green lantern characters. even besides the fact that she's a vampire and i love vampires- she came in and succeeded at every goal hal's villains have set for themselves like she 1) got to rule the universe 2) married hal and 3) made him her king consort. she's so perfect

LMAO, that's on me! Here's some other social media ideas I had for him:
tumblr: 1 blog, he doesn't really do sideblogs or anything. All he does is reblog fanart. Occasionally, he makes a 500 paragraph analysis post that gets 2 notes. Has thought about making a gimmick blog but doesn't really have the time for it. Sad.
YouTube: Posts 4 hour long DC analysis/rant videos and 8 minute long Marvel videos, and his Marvel videos get 100x more views. Beyond that, a fic I like very much (breakaway by highlonesome on ao3... it's explicit, that's your warning, but it's amazing and you should read it if you're chill with that) has him as a YouTuber and essentially nails what I imagine his videos and fanbase would be like. People who hate him, people who are attracted to him, and people who are both.
tvtropes: I made an account for him for a fic I'm writing... Basically, on tvtropes, there's a lot of extra bits you can add to your account for ~flair~. I put the details in the fic, so stay tuned! Other than that, he posts a lot on forums and edits a lot of the pages on comics and stuff. I think he has a troper wall that gets vandalized a lot.
Instagram: He used to only use it to talk to his friends (like a proto-Discord, I guess), but now he uses it just to post Superman selfies, or like comic hauls or whatever. I don't see him using it as much as other sites.
i do like the implication in the third sleepers book that jack and carol may have slept together before she got together with hal ESPECIALLY with jack very much knowing that hal was into her. it ties soo well into jack's overall dynamic with hal and his dedication to "protecting" hal from reality, the almost pact that he and his mother have seemed to make to make sure hal never remembers the abuse he went through as a child- and so jack ends up involving himself into every part ot hal's life, intruding onto every part of it and making him feel inadequate. even when you consider johns' version of the jack-hal-jessica dynamic, hal is resented for wanting to become like his father but the truth of it all is being actively kept from him! jack got to be martin's favourite and got to become just like martin but for hal to strive towards that makes him a "space case", it's a fool's errand for him to keep trying to posthumously please a man he knows nothing about. of course this results in being a green lantern becoming the only part of himself that hal can keep to himself, of course he never tells his family about any of it- it's a secret they only find out upon his death, almost an inversion to the truth of his father's nature being kept from hal upon martin's death.
i do think all of this sort of recontextualises the revisioned relationship between martin and hal. hal always reflecting upon it as martin being a slightly strict but a still loving father (even though he used to acknowledge that he was abusive!) coming from him just simply refusing to acknowledge the way he was hurt and! his family aiding in his false memories. hal is afraid of becoming just like martin but still regardless wishes to be like him because he always viewed that as the only was to win martin's love, because jack was just like their father and if jack was loved for it why can't hal? it's not simply that martin didn't love him but that he loves his brothers, hal was the odd one out.
a green lantern show in the dc cinematic universe shouldn't even involve hal instead they should just have characters ask the gls where the hell hal is and they shrug like he's on some road trip with green arrow and then it smash cuts to a 10 second clip of some dumb bullshit of what hal and oliver (and occasionally dinah) are up to
Heroes in Crisis was a fucking shitshow that managed to mischaracterize just about everyone involved, so I'm glad that the Green Lanterns were virtually uninvolved. Honestly I have a headcanon that their brief confession panels were a result of them being forced to show up for at least one session bc they’re high-profile Justice Leaguers who have to set a good example for the hero community.
Like, these two had to have been taking the piss here. Hal knows what will is, it's what's allowing him to keep a straight face as he spouts this BS. Kyle's definitely trying not to bust out laughing and had to make his mask bigger to not get caught.
Guy knows that most of the other heroes think he’s an insecure meathead so he just phones in a performance that plays up that angle. Jessica's the only one who's even kind of taking any of this seriously.
