During this stage, the virus begins to travel through the body via nerve pathways. Once it reaches the CNS, virus enters Stage 2.
Virus transfers via BITES. If you are bitten by an Infected, transference of virus is GUARANTEED.
There is no cure, there is no treatment. Perhaps vaccines could've been used to develop antibodies, but the infection progressed too quickly for a vaccine to be made before it was too late.
Theory: Amputating limbs with infection point before virus can reach CNS? How quickly does it travel?
I've heard stories of Anima turning without having been bit. Without even interacting with an infected.
I don't know why.
Stage 2: Prodromal The sickness stage
(3-10 Days)
Symptoms: Fever, nausea, loss of appetite, sore throat
Closer to fully succumbing to infection, behavior can become erratic; increased irritability, anxiety, depression, hyperesthesia (heightening senses) and sense of dread
Warning Signs: early prodromal symptoms can resemble other sicknesses. Approach and treat sick Anima with Caution.
Extreme hydrophobia (fear and tremors at mere sight of liquid)
Chewing (not biting, CHEWING) lips to point of tearing skin and drawing blood (<- unconscious behavior)
lack of appetite becoming revulsion to "normal" foods

Hunter variant will rarely give up the hunt unless attacked. Relentless and ruthless.
Safest option is to drive it away with water. If you fight, you must destroy the brain to kill it.
THE BODY WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT UNTIL COMPLETE FAILURE.
Behaviors: (Before being spotted) - hides from wind and rain. Remains still, waiting for prey to come to it.
(After being spotted) - FASTER AND STRONGER than Hunter variant, but seems to have less stamina, more likely to give up a hunt and return to a hiding spot to wait for an easier target.
Running still the safest option - Just don't let it catch you. Be more trouble than the hunt is worth.

Since I very purposefully designed Salty to be very visually similar to DogDay, sometimes I'd get jumpscared by DogDay fanart that drew him just a little scruffy and I'd think "OMG SALTY????" but no. Just Scruffy DogDay. I broke it down the difference best in the Top Right, DogDay = Round, Salty = Pointy! This does mean I have a lil collection of DogDay fanart that makes me think of Salty. Human (technically Sims) au content! Can't remember why but I got this idea in my head that Cal (human CatNap) should be afraid of needles. "But wait!" My brain said "he has tattoos! How'd he get them if he's afraid of needles?" Well, the easy answer is that he's only afraid of needles in a medical setting but! The funnier answer is that he Got Them Scared (featuring Dago, human DogDay!)

Also, that guy in the cloak and bandages that looks a lot like Curly Mouthwashing? That Harley Sawyer and that is the only time I'll be calling him by the right name so if I ever say Harvey or Harvé or any other sort of bastardization, just know I AM talking abt The Doctor.
I randomly remembered the Smiling Critters existed like, 2 days before Chapter 4 dropped and idk something clicked in my brain and now these silly little multicolored creatures are all I can think about.
The main crux (and namesake) of this AU comes from me playing around with a Mix-And-Match website and it randomly generating LBD, The Mayor, Peng and Azure Lion as the JTTW pilgrims and I thought that idea was so funny I HAD to do something with it.
Basically, when it was time of Tang Sanzang to go on his funny little Journey To The West, instead of picking up the usual pilgrims along the way, he is voluntold by Buddha to take along various Celestial Traitors/Usurpers as some sort of Rehab-Road Trip. The idea was that since these various people fought Heaven because they thought the world was flawed and wanted to fix it (at two different times, coincidentally), if they were sent on this awesome road trip to the west, they'd see just how great the world under Celestial Bureaucracy actually was! It... mostly works out! 👍At least until shortly after finishing the Journey and getting back into Heaven's good graces, the Pilgrims assassinate the Jade Emperor and Azure replaces him about 500 some years earlier than in Canon. This can only go well, I'm sure.
Of course, as all major changes to history tend to do, this has rippling effects on the course of many character's lives, including but not limited to; Wukong being stuck in the trigram furnace for 500+ years, MK being born and growing up on Flower Fruit Mountain, and Mei is now our main character and Azure's spiritual successor! Fun!
