You expected him to try something again — maybe step closer, or clasp your hand in his — but instead he backs away.

“W-wait!”

You draw your hands up to your cheeks and find them dampened by streaks of tears. Your shoulders start to tremble. The dam feels like it’s about to break, and you don’t think you’ve got enough will left to stop it. “I’m s-sorry. Cuddling does sound r-rather nice. Maybe th-that might h-help…”

You blink your eyes, and the slight movement causes several tears to drip from your eyes. You want to want to just go to him, bury your face in his chest, and sob, but you’re too awkward now, for you know you were being a jerk, so you manage only to weakly hold your arms out in hopes that he’ll take the initiative.

He thinks that would be nice? Really? You perk up a bit, and the moment you see his arms held out, of course you take the initiative, you shove yourself right into them and give him the tightest hug. You're not too dull to let the tears go unnoticed, you bring a hand up and brush some of them away with your thumb.

"Alright buddy, we'll do that then, yeah? We'll go to your room and you can cry on me all ya need to, 1 don't mind, ah.. really. That's totally ok, if it.. makes ya feel better. This shoulder's all yours, ok?" You give your own shoulder a pat for emphasis you suppose. But you're really just trying your best not to be awkward about this anymore.

You'll squeeze him one more time before letting go. You almost, almost, reach for his hand, but instead decide to just latch yourself onto his arm and urge him to walk to his room with you. "It'll be ok, Doze, promise."

His reaction to your heart-felt compliments is strange, but you aren’t in the mood to question it. You aren’t in the mood for much at all, actually, as you’re still down-right miserable. You turn to leave, tiredly shuffling down the hallway towards your room, but you stop when you hear him calling after you, telling you to wait.

“Wh-what do you want now?” You try and sound angry, but your voice quavers on the final word. “Can you see I’m j-just not in the bloody mood?”

You were expecting more false tales detailing how you supposedly have some actual worth as a person, but instead it’s something entirely different and not at all what you were expecting. On a normal day, you’d probably laugh at him and his ability to embarrass himself, but instead you just stare placidly as he hides his mouth with his hand.

“I…I don’t th-think that I w-want your pity…N-n-not that I need it. I told you, I d-don’t care about this stuff.” You look away, trying to hide your face, hoping he won’t be able to see any of the regret or uncertainty on your face. Your eyes are damn and you want to open the floodgates and sob like a child, but you don’t want him seeing you do it.

You frown at his tone, but still shuffle yourself closer to him, following after him like something no better than a puppy. You can tell he's really upset, and that actually bothers you a lot. You just want to hold him and comfort him somehow and tell him how wrong he is, but you have no idea how, and all you're doing is making an idiot of yourself. You lower your hand from your mouth to play with your bowtie instead.

"No, no it's not pity. Don't think'a it like that 1 just thought.. 1 dunno maybe ya wouldn't be feelin' so lonely if ya had someone ta keep ya company." When he looks away, you tilt your head, trying to figure out why he's not looking at you. Is he.. is he going to cry? Oh man. "And uh, 1 thought maybe we could cuddle or something? 1 dunno about you but hugs sure do help when 1 ain't feelin' too good."

When he pulls you into an embrace, you wrap your arms around him and cling to his shirt. You push your face into his chest, both because it feels nice and to conceal your eyes, which are totally not watery at all.

“T-thank you…b-but I still th-think that you’re full of it.” You tighten your grip on his clothes. “Unlike me, you’re actually a really nice guy. And you’re funny and outgoing…You’ll find someone, eventually, I know it.” You pull away, then you look up and smile at him like he asked you to. You don’t feel even close to happy, but it was nice to have your hug.

“I g-guess I should go to bed now.” You wipe the dampness from your eyes that is completely caused by a stray bit of lint getting in them. “G-goodnight, Itchy.”
