okay i am reading role model.
i'm like a page in and i'm already fucking annoyed.
To be clear I am annoyed by the idea that somehow Troy didn’t know that Dallas was doing bad things because that seems like a much lazier option than Troy knowing what Dallas was doing and coming to terms with the fact that it was bad
Whatever I don’t care literally at all about the redemption of Troy Barrett I am here to see Ilya Rozanov beat the shit out of Dallas Kent and get a game misconduct and wink
Ilya, suspecting Troy is gay, drags him to the Kingfisher and also summons Scott Hunter and Eric Bennett. In the business we call this “pulling a Rose Landry.”
I miss Shane
I kept expecting there to be a moment where it's explained why Troy turned on Dallas more than "he just decided to be a good guy now" but there's nothing. I thought there was gonna be a twist where he had some complicity or even accidental complicity that caused him to have some realizations once allegations started appearing. But there's never any real explanation as to why Troy suddenly believed some anonymous reddit posts.... which honestly makes it seem like he turns on Dallas because he's in a bad mood about his own breakup.
Anyway my take is that RM would be about 50% better if Harris does not fall instantly for Troy and if Troy actually had to work to prove himself.
Yep exactly Jules
Also lol at being annoyed from page 1, bc i also got annoyed on page 1. It fully opens with Wyatt walking up to Troy (whom he has every reason to hate) and being like "welp I have every reason to hate you but I've read the summary on the book cover and know that youre the protagonist and therefore a good guy so I guess I'll give you my immediate forgiveness." Like its okay to have conflict! Conflict would actually make Troy more likeable!
Also this is the reason i say Harris would date a cop. Harris's only concern about Troy is whether he's homophobic and once he decides that Troy isnt homophobic ("because he's nice to meeeee"), Harris is like WELP no other questions I don't wanna know anything else about his prior behavior I've just decided he's probably a good guy because he's hot and i wanna fuck him.
Now that's obviously not the intent behind Harris's characterization, but by being so conflict adverse, the narrative accidentally makes him comically superficial.

Idk I thought it was cool that Agamemnon walked around like Darth Vader

R.I.P. Bonnie Tyler. This one makes me so sad.
Brenda Fricker died so I'm gonna watch Angels in the Outfield and cry
Totally forgot Dermot Mulroney was the deadbeat mortorcycle dad wow
I was ready for McConaughey but somehow forgot about Brody.
"There's a thing called talent. THEY DON'T HAVE IT!" Is one of many trailer lines that live in my mind. Not only did I watch this movie one billion times as a kid, but the trailer played on the VHS of Lion King (along with the Pocahontas trailer, which is why I could sing all of Colors of the Wind fully fifteen years after I had last seen that film or listened to that song).

stop letting miserable people on the internet convince you that you must have a concrete, well-constructed opinion on everything that has ever existed.

hot take possibly? but i actually think it’s okay for things to be marketed for adults. it’s literally okay if things aren’t suitable for children. i feel like we are losing the plot
