Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.

And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"

I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.

Oh boy, thoughts and feelings. Everything turned out to be... about what I expected. Which is something rushed, but ultimately heartfelt. The core of the story was always meant to be wrapping up Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship, which I feel like was done to great effect. Beyond that, the actual plot mattered very little to me from the outset. There were things I felt went unfinished (Jesus's arc, namely - I think including him and the book of life stuff squished things a bit), and nearly every twist was predictable. But I didn't... really... care? For a production we were so very close to not getting, I'm pleased. It did what I wanted; I think asking for more would have been unreasonable.

I do wish for two things. One, a bit more detail on who Crowley was to Heaven (I think archangel is pretty clear at this point, but it would have been nice to have it stated outright). Two, an actual, proper kiss. I'm not sure how much the lack of a kiss was down to Amazon or whatnot, but I wish it had been in there. The two-finger-thing was cute and fine, I just wish we got that one happy kiss (tho if anyone wants to take that as the aro/ace rep we deserve, I'm not gonna stop you). Not because I think the kiss proves their relationship in any way (it doesn't), but because of the history of the production. Getting them to have a fluffy, cute moment would have meant a lot to me from my personal journey with the work. From starting out as a closeted kid to being out and proud, it would have been cool to see that evolution alongside my favourite characters, if that makes sense? But again, not 100000% necessary; this is what fanfic is for.

Anyway, yes, happy to have everything nicely wrapped up. The tribute to Pratchett at the end genuinely made me teary. I was very scared they'd take the humanity angle and wreck it, but the way it was accomplished felt good. I didn't want Crowley/AZ to become human originally because I didn't want them to go into the same system they'd been trying to escape. With all of that erased... It eased my discomfort. It felt a little bit like the ending of The Good Place, which is one of my favourite endings Of All Time. I'm content to let this be what it was, and I'm so so so grateful to the Pratchett estate for pushing for this. Truly 90 minutes was, at the end of it all, enough.
