Turn Week 2020, Day 5: Favourite Relationship Robert and Samuel Townsend
Finally, a father-son relationship on TV I can enjoy.
First of all, they’re Quakers. Their non-violence and piety has informed their relationship accordingly in a way that feels really anti-patriarchal (as opposed to the typical mess we see with the Woodhulls or even the Tallmadges).
Samuel is a soft-spoken man. The way he annoys his son is by wanting him to do well and become politically involved. His religious defiance expresses itself in silver buckles and an ornate cane. He’s emotionally well balanced. Imagine Samuel raising his voice to display authority: you can’t.
And Robert, well. He’s also soft-spoken, careful with his words and actions. I’m not sure he’s more pious than his father, though he might remember a time when Samuel used to be a bit more restrictive on his son and himself than he is now, a fact that Robert might still hold against him. Robert clearly conflicts with his father on many points, but they meet and part congenially.
Abe exploits their close relationship for the Culper Ring (after he monumentally misjudges Robert’s character and points of pressure – one day I’ll talk about how, for a show about turning people, there’re literally only two people who are any good at it: Peggy and John Andre, the true power couple of this show.)
Ultimately, though, Samuel’s injuries aren’t what brings them closer together. It’s that Robert is being true to his own beliefs and values, and that Samuel takes pride in his son – not just for spying, but for doing it in a way that’s true to their way of life.
All my love for the Townsends.

I love Samuel Townsend! And the fact that they knew that making trouble for him would convince Robert to join up. He’s got so much character in every scene he’s in, and the way he just teases Robert constantly. Poor man just wants to have a few people over for dinner and gets this insane gang descending on his dining room.
TURN WEEK DAY 5! I skipped day 4 because I ran out of time, but those burning to know my favorite season (read: no one), it’s probably s2.
Today’s theme is favorite relationship, and I really was considering doing one of my big ships... Anyone who’s talked to me about TURN for any length of time probably knows I’ve got two, and they’re Tallster and Annlett. But I’ve made content for both of those before, and it’s predictable from me, so I decided to go for my favorite platonic relationship, and it’s these two!
I feel like Caleb and Anna have a really sweet friendship - One which I wish we’d gotten to see a little more of. Excluding his “this is men’s work” bullshit from early on (and doesn’t she put him in his place!), he seems to respect her in a way her other male friends just sort of... Well, don’t. He recognizes she’s smart and has a different, valuable perspective, nudges Ben to listen to her, and values her contributions more than the others do - And that hug after the failed wedding? My heart.
Turn Week Day 2: Your favorite patriot! It’s Caleb Brewster. Who’s surprised? The answer is nobody. I love this reckless idiot.
Another one of mine. All the Turn Week stuff’ll show up on my rp blog first, because I... Am doing that, I guess.

TURN Week Prompt 1: Your favorite loyalist! It’s Hewlett! He is, without a doubt, my favorite redcoat of all time. What a cutie.
I drew this but posted it to my rp blog, oop.

Screwing around with making fake visual novel screens and did this for my RP buddy. Can’t believe it’s been a year.
me, rewatching turn season 4 when Abe and co. are on plot #75 to kill Simcoe, knowing damn well what's going to happen

It’s Benny’s birthday but we get the present! What a generous fella.
Since tumblr is weird about NSFW, my steamy tag is... Well, “steamy”, so good ahead and blacklist it if you don’t wanna see this kinda stuff. 😘
