Little Melba and Her Big TromboneĀ
Author - Katheryn Russell-Brown
Illustrator - Frank MorrisonĀ
Melba Doretta Liston loved the sounds of music from as far back as she could remember. As a child, she daydreamed about beats and lyrics, and hummed along with the music from her family s Majestic radio. At age seven, Melba fell in love with a big, shiny trombone, and soon taught herself to play the instrument. By the time she was a teenager, Melba s extraordinary gift for music led her to the world of jazz. She joined a band led by trumpet player Gerald Wilson and toured the country. Overcoming obstacles of race and gender, Melba went on to become a famed trombone player and arranger, spinning rhythms, harmonies, and melodies into gorgeous songs for all the jazz greats of the twentieth century: Randy Weston, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, and Quincy Jones, to name just a few. Brimming with ebullience and the joy of making music, Little Melba and Her Big Trombone is a fitting tribute to a trailblazing musician and a great unsung hero of jazz.

Why Falling In Love With āOld Soulsā Can Be So Hard
Right off the bat, I want to make it adamantly clear that the term āold soulsā has no actual basis in psychology. Regardless, the phenomenon of āold soulsā does exist, as many mothers and nurses in the maternal ward will tell you. The idea of āold soulsā varies depending on who youāre talking to. Some say that old souls are merely children that seem much more mature than their age would indicate. Others see old souls in a much more spiritual light, and believe that these individuals have lived many past lives on this earth, and seem to draw upon that knowledge and experience daily. For these people, a belief in reincarnation is almost always present.
While the idea of old souls has been dismissed by many as pseudoscience, itās hard to deny the existence of old souls when you see them. Some of the firmest believers in the existence of old souls are the nurses who help deliver babies in hospitals. These healthcare professionals see more babies than perhaps anyone else, and they notice the subtle differences in these newborns that others might miss. Many of these nurses will tell you that certain babies exhibit strange characteristics when theyāre born, almost as if theyāve been born many times before and itās nothing new to themā¦
While being an old soul can have its advantages, it can also have its downsides. Many old souls have trouble with relationships. In addition, many people who date old souls can tell you that itās very difficult to make things work with them. But why is this? Is there any hope for these old souled individuals? These are the questions we set out to answer today.
1. Old Souls Often Come From Single Parent Households
While the term āold soulā might not be used in psychology, there is another term that is closely related. This term is āpseudomature.ā This word refers to children, teens, or young adults that appear much more mature than their age might indicate. These children are often trying toā¦.

Photography by Khadija Saye
Khadija Saye: artist on cusp of recognition when she died in Grenfell in Wednesdayās fire, was being exhibited at Venice Biennale and had caught eye of influential director
The day before she died, Khadija Saye had met an influential gallery director who was blown away by the young artistās work and wanted to meet her. After years of striving to create her work while studying and holding down a job as a care worker, it felt like her moment to shine had come.
Her work was being exhibited as part of a showcase of emerging artists at the Venice Biennale, and now an important gallery was offering to show her art. The director had wanted to meet at her studio, not knowing she worked out of the 20th-floor flat she shared with her mother.
But by Wednesday morning, instead of her name being discussed as one of the most exciting young artists to emerge out of London, it was stories of her desperate Facebook messages sent from the top of that tower that were being shared.
Letās just leave this right here

Tarzan is one of the mostā¦underrated candidates for a lesbian remake. Like come on.Ā
consider this: girl abandoned in the wild because her family was ashamed to not have a son for their first born. she grows up to be totally in tune with nature, the only place she is accepted. then jane is critized for being interested in the field of science because sheās a woman. and⦠then she falls in love with lady tarzan in the only place accepting of their love- nature.

No offense but literally nothing and no one is and will ever be out of your league. Nothing is too good for you. Nobody has the right to make you feel like you are not enough or less than you are, you deserve the world.
