Reasons to lose weight

1. So he’ll like me instead of her 2. So I can be the favorite child 3. So I won’t hate myself anymore 4. So I’ll take up less space 5. So I won’t feel disgusting when shopping for new clothes 6. DYING TO BE THIN : A Short Film

In the novel Cut by Patricia McCormick the main character Callie is a cutter. The author Patricia McCormick has three other characters that are battling eating disorders. What is an eating disorder? How are adolescent boys and girls coping with eating disorders? Are eating disorders more prevalent among boys then girls? What causes eating disorders? These are questions that we all seek answers to.

I think that although the novel addresses self-injurious behaviors which eating disorders are not, it does shed some light on the three characters journey throughout the novel on their individual battles with eating disorders.  Becca, Tara, and Debbie in Cut suffer from eating disorders.
