Months had gone by since Phoebe had any fun. She always seemed to be tied up with work. Surprisingly, Mr. Steele was first up on Phoebe’s patient rounds at Simlish Memorial Hospital.
Truthfully, Phoebe longed to be anywhere but at work. She’d much rather be relaxing at her favorite coffee shop in Newcrest Heights listening to a blissful mix of smooth jazz
Phoebe had a heart for music, not medical. That didn’t matter much. Phoebe’s dad spent much of his retirement and saving funds on ensuring Phoebe and her sister, Cassie received the best education possible from some of the top ivy-league private schools. Making her dad proud was the least she could do. .
“Hello, Ms. Denton, as always it’s a pleasure seeing you .How is everything?
“Good morning, Mr. Steele. Everything is well, thank you for asking.. Say Ah for me please,” Phoebe said.
Mr. Colton could sense something was off. Phoebe was not her usual joyful self. He began, “Ms. Denton, if I may? I may not be a doctor, but I am a father and I know when something is off...”
Phoebe laughed, “Um, well yes. As your treating physician, I can say without a doubt your fatherly instincts are working well.” Phoebe joked.
Well, I may not be your first choice, but I am a great listener if you want someone to speak with. Mr. Steele said.
“I like what I do, but I can’t help but feel incomplete. I love music. It’s my passion, always has been.”
“Really?” Mr. Colton responded. “My son, the one who gets his charming looks from his old man, I am always telling you about has a love for music. He use to DJ. Maybe you both should meet. You may really enjoy one another’s company,” Mr. Colton said as he was showing Phoebe a picture of his son.
Phoebe recalled the night in the club with the handsome stranger.
Laughing nervously at the reminder of Mr. Colton’s son, Phoebe smiled and whispered, “Oh wow, what a small world.” He is handsome indeed. He seems like a real gentleman. Then again, I wouldn’t expect anything less from you Mr. Colton” Phoebe joked.
“Yes,” Mr. Steele chuckled. “Actually, we have some family and friends gathering this Saturday at noon in San Myshuno Park. If you don’t have any other plans for this weekend, We’d love to have you join us.” I’d love nothing more than for my son to meet such an intelligent, ambitious, honorable, and beautiful girl such as yourself to get to know.”
“Umm,” Phoebe paused. “It sounds inviting,” she stuttered considering the offer.” I will consider it. Any specific dress code required?” Phoebe asked.
“No, but we’d love to have you, should you consider it.
“Great, maybe I will see you all Saturday,” Phoebe stated as her patient timer buzzed, “Well, I’m off to continue my rounds, but looks like you have a minor head cold. Head on down to the pharmacy, Your prescription is waiting for you there.”
“Thank you Ms. Denton, take care. Also, please give thought to what I said. I know my son would enjoy meeting you.”
“Will do, Mr. Colton. Take it easy and get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids.” Phoebe said.
Coffee does not count.” Phoebe and Mr. Colton laughed as they departed.
