6. what is your character reluctant to tell people?

Cindy is reticent to talk about her home life to people, despite it being her…whole life. It didn’t take her very long to realize that hers is not the norm, not to mention the scrutiny she’d receive from her family should she dare to air their dirty laundry. She tends to downplay the severity of her situation, if she dares to mention it at all.

11. for what would your character give their life?

Cindy has survived for as long as she has by keeping her head down. Although she has a strong moral compass, she doesn’t have the intensity and drive to back it up through word and action. Although animals are her greatest companions, she’s had to put her own safety in front of theirs when it comes to the wrath of her family. At some point, there’s only so much she can do.

That being said, when she gets close to someone, she tends to get really close to them. When it comes to the people and animals she cares deeply about, then she’d be willing to lay down their life for them. In the end, it tends to be a decision made in the moment and can go either way.

12. what are your character’s major flaws?

Passive Aggressive: Cindy doesn’t know how to confront people, so she tends to funnel her negative emotions in unhealthy and unproductive ways. Muttering under her breath, acting two-faced, and making backhanded comments to name a few. Anything that doesn’t slip out tends to be internalized when does wonders for her self esteem and relationships.

Self Righteous: Although she can’t always stand up for her values, it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have them, nor that she doesn’t judge others based off of them. When she does have the opportunity to speak up unfettered, she’ll make it clear what her thoughts are, which are not always as pleasant as she seems.

Hypocritical: For someone whose life is a hot mess, she tends to have a lot of opinions on how others should be living theirs. In her eyes, if you have the privilege to live freely, you should be doing your best and be grateful for it. However, she’s quick to dismiss other people’s advice to her, despite it being some variation of what she says to others.

Neurotic: After a life of abuse, Cindy can’t help but be paranoid about everything around her. She tends to be overly anxious about things that may seem inane to some, but can put her out for hours, if not days. It can make her distrustful at best and downright insufferable at worst. But with the right comforts and reassurances, it can be tolerable.

13. what does your character pretend to care about?

At this point in her life, Cindy is a master of pretending to care about things she doesn’t care about. Her family rants to her constantly about problems that do not phase her in the slightest, but she’s perfected the art of smiling and nodding along. People call her a great listener, and she can be when she tries, but when she’s not, she’s definitely only pretending to.

Before all of this happened, Cindy had only been to the Ministry for a handful of times, and all of them had to do with a court case her stepmother set up. In her young age, she hadn’t known what they were for but it was only through these current trips that she understood their insidious nature. They’d been to try and strip her name, her fortune, and her life away from her. Now she was here to take it all back.

She’d been coming back and forth for weeks now. In between Marcus, Pip, and her own numerous legal affairs, she was actually getting pretty used to navigating around the various departments of the Ministry. Today, she was at the auror’s office, submitting a character evaluation on Marucs for the brief time they had known one another. While their interactions hadn’t been pleasant, she was determined to paint him in as good a light as possible. After all, she was the one who had been acting weird that day.

She had just finished her interview with the auror and was about to exit the office when she saw a familiar face that caused her to double take. No, surely not--but then she remembered that her friend and former rooommate worked part time here. Eyes wide, she started to make her way over to the familiar figure. “Mer?” She called out.

Denahi nodded. It was about that time, wasn’t it? The end of the year rush and the double whammy of exams and prom: two things every student would be stressing about in equal measure. Most of them, anyway. “Oh, Kenai and Koda are good,” Denahi said, just the slightest bit uncertain he was actually telling the truth. “As far as I can tell, anyway. It’s a bit more difficult to know for sure now that we’re not in the same building most of the time, but they seem to be doing well. But, hey, good luck in the tournament. The quidditch cup will look fantastic in the common room.” Now without any friends on any of the other Hogwarts quidditch teams, Denahi could for the first time fully root for the Ravenclaw team. Not that he’d ever be there to cheer them on in person, but it was something to note at the very least. 

“That’s good! Yeah, I can understand how that would be difficult, but they seem to really care about you, so there probably isn’t too much to worry about,” she said. Truthfully, she didn’t know either of the boys that well but being in Ravenclaw, what few conversations they had would always come back to Denahi. Cindy had a tendency to hone onto other people’s sibling relationships and marvel at how close everyone seemed to be. Of course, her relationship with her stepsisters was...complicated, but she couldn’t help but dream that maybe she could have had...or maybe even have that type of close bond someday. At least, she did once upon a time. Now with the unsure status that they may or may not be plotting her demise, it was a bit harder to dream.

The quidditch comment had her putting on a smile and shaking her head. “Well, hopefully Meredith can keep up this awesome streak she has going on. Make up for my...not so awesome streak,” she grimaced, but tried to laugh it off. “I’m not the best athlete, but Ravenclaw isn’t exactly clamoring for people trying to get on the team, so...”

Myrddin Ambrosius bent low, slowly reaching out and grasping his wallet from the ground when he heard a familiar voice. One he hadn’t expected to hear again, for it was so rare that a child missing for over two days would ever be returned. His wrinkled face lifted up as he slowly stretched his knees back to standing with a pop in one of them. “Cinderella?” He questioned, completely disregarding the poor ice cream clerk as the young girl bounced and waved.

“Ah yes. Sorry.” He turned and quickly paid, not daring to take his eyes from the young girl for too long, lest she disappear once more. However, as soon as he got his treat his old feet shuffed off toward her with as much speed as a 110 year old could. “Miss Tremaine, is that truly you? What happened, child?!”

She hadn’t meant to interrupt the transaction but she’d gotten ahead of herself. So many weeks of isolation had dulled her ability to read social cues and quite frankly, had her rather craving human interactions of all kind. Especially with those she knew she could trust. When he started to make his way over to her, she met him halfway in a jog. Her instinct was to hug him but she pulled herself back. She hadn’t been alone that long. 

“It is!” She exclaimed, her voice quivering just a bit as the emotions overwhelmed her. She hadn’t been able to seek out that many people but the ones she did were always so shocked and relieved to see her, that it was hard not to take on some of that excess of emotion. Still, she blinked back her tears with a sniffle and shook her head. “A...a lot. A lot I probably can’t say right now,” she said, glancing at the very public, very muggle setting they were in currently. “But I’m alright. It’s so good to see you again! What are you doing here?”

She was a lot better at understanding, reading, and writing then she was speaking, so she completely related. By the end of it, she giggled and shook her head. “Ce n’est pas grave,” she reassured him. It was the most polite way of saying ‘it’s alright’, but the one she knew the best.

She bit her tongue at his comment about DADA. It hadn’t been her least favorite class, even if Professor Calhoun did scare her. But her choice in scheduling hadn’t been her own, even though she really felt like some defense was exactly what she needed right now. Maybe that had been part of why she’d been forced to drop it. “Well…I’ll definitely make sure to stop by the tournament and see what it’s like. But I’ll try to come next year, for sure!” If she was even around next year. She quickly pushed that thought from her mind.

As they got to the castle, they got to the place where she’d have to split for her next class. “Well…I have to go for now, but I’ll see you around? We can figure out when to study for exams at our next Herbology class,” she offered.

JJ grinned, “Yeah! À bientôt Ilene! * ” He said with a small salute to her as an easy goodbye. It was always great to have more friends.

Vi wasn’t one of those people who felt auror work had to be something grand and mysterious and unexplainable. If someone was interested in what was happening, it seemed like her duty to give them the knowledge they wanted. Of course, some people felt that the more people knew about the rules, they more they found their way around it to break it. But so many of the auror tools were really cool, why shouldn’t she share exactly what she was doing?

“Oh wow,” she murmured to herself in awe. Of course, she hadn’t been given the money to take the apparition class, so she didn’t know much about it. She didn’t yet understand that this was something specifically for aurors and not taught to everyone but in the meantime, it still did seem pretty cool. She nodded along with it. “That’s very impressive,” she remarked, looking it over one more time.

By this point, Pat had made his way back over to her and she scooped down to pick him up, holding him close to her chest with one arm while the other held her makeshift bag. She took a deep breath and looked to Violet expectantly. “Alright...I’m ready. Lead the way.” Even now, she didn’t even think of side apparition as a choice they had. These past few weeks, she’d always imagined herself walking out of the forest. Anything else had never occurred to her.

Vi’s blood went cold. The night of the full moon. The popping wouldn’t have come from a wolf, that she knew absolutely. But she knew there were people who targeted wolves. There was a group at the Ministry who was using what happened in America as an excuse to try and push stricter werewolf regulations. Maybe someone had taken it a few steps further. But what would cause that exact popping sound? 

She felt torn. On the one hand, her instincts were screaming at her to go check out what had happened and find the answer. There was something wrong, and she needed to fix it. Especially if it would be a threat to Gus. But on the other hand, this girl had been through more than enough. She was trusting Vi to get her home safe, and that was what she should be doing. Just as she bit her lip, unsure what to do, she heard Gardner’s voice in her head, ‘Always take care of the living first. The dead aren’t going anywhere.’

Right. Vi nodded at the girl and tried to smile reassuringly. “Thanks for telling me. I’m just gonna flag this spot real quick and then we can go, ok?” Pulling a specially prepared string out of her pocket, Vi turned away to wrap it around the branch of a nearby tree. Pulling out the pin in the kit, she pricked her finger so she bled, and she smeared the blood on the string. There. She would be able to apparate back to this exact spot after. 

For a moment, Cinderella thought she could see a flicker of fear in Violet’s eyes. It was a look she’d commonly seen in herself, especially over the last few weeks. She wanted to ask about it, but before she could even think to open her mouth, the auror was smiling at her reassuringly. She had to wonder if she’d even actually seen anything at all.

“Oh, right,” she said with a nod, even if she didn’t understand. Surely, it was an auror thing. Still, she watched with some curiosity at the almost ritual-like event that unfolded before her. Her Ravenclaw instincts got the better of her as she asked, “What exactly does it do?” Staying silent would probably be the fastest way to get her out of here, but actually being able to talk to someone about something--anything--felt more amazing than she could ever have imagined in these weeks alone.

Robin raised an eyebrow with a smile and nodded more dramatically as the girl pointed to herself.  He really couldn’t resist at least saying hello - she was easily the biggest target on the street, and she was lucky that he didn’t care too much about money.  He’d rather steal something that would inconvenience her to not have any longer, and he had a feeling that she could just go and get more galleons at will if he took the ones on her belt.  Maybe he should teach her a lesson, though.  Better he steal it rather than any other shady character hanging out around Hogsmeade.

He wandered towards her.  “Hey love, you’re in Ravenclaw, aren’t you?  I feel like I’ve seen you with your nose in a book around Hogwarts.”  Robin was observant to a fault, but often played it off as if he didn’t recognize most Hogwarts students the minute he saw them, instantly knowing their names and house.

Well, it wasn’t that she didn’t care, it was just that she didn’t know. Of course, she didn’t exactly look like the type to have just come into money. By anyone’s account, she was probably just a spoiled, blonde, rich witch. And she had been at one point, a long time ago.

The boy made it clear that he was a Hogwarts student and that seemed to ease at least a little bit of the tension in her mind. “Oh! Yes I am. And you...” She looked him over for a moment before it seemed to click. “Oh, you’re a Gryffindor!” She exclaimed. Dating the captain of the quidditch team meant that she was in the Gryffindor Tower a lot and he certainly had a recognizable face. “I don’t think we’ve ever actually met though, my name is Cinderella,” she said, purposefully omitting her last name. Partially for her own safety but mostly because the last name she legally had was one that now made her stomach churn. Still, she put out a hand politely to shake.
