Trans People Are Not A Burden. Their humanity is not up for debate. I stand with the trans community.
Got my Aunt Viv pin in the mail from @teesinthetrap! Y'all remember that scene right? One of my favorites. Backpack accessories on fleek! Getting the Maxine Waters pin next! #blackgirlmagic
White people are more likely to get hired because their names sounds white.
White kids are punished less for the same behavior than black kids
White convicts are more likely to get a job than black people without records.
A white person with no college degree is just as like to get hired as a black person with a college degree
All white juries (it’s starts on page 11) are more likely to convict black criminals than white ones.
Black people are more likely to be stopped and frisked than white people even though they have a higher drug usage than us.
White people (majority of doctors) think that black people feel less pain
Black people get longer sentences than white people
White people use the majority of drugs but black people go to jail longer. This talks more about why our jails and prison are full of black and poor people
White people push for harsher laws when they think it will affect black people
Black people are more likely to get death penalty if their victim is white vs white people if their victims is Black. (Really it applies to all races. Any race that isn’t Black is less likely to get the death penalty if their victim is Black.)
Since this is much longer than the others if you scroll down to figure 5 and read the information about it that’s where this is detailed but the whole thing is a good read.
Reblogging this to here because I can never find examples of white privilege and systematic oppression when I go searching for it in our blog or my personal one.
Product Review and Praise Report! @phoenixdeeprooted (Phoenix Deep Rooted Haircare, Llc.) For the past several years I've moved away from using any hair products from stores. My hair would feel metallic, dry, stripped of moisture. I got good results using just natural oil and shea butter was healthy but something was still missing from the equation. Thank you to my high school classmate, scientist, hair stylist for using her own hair journey combined with her degrees to create products that within a week have completely changed my hair journey and results. I washed my hair last Saturday, put it in bantu knots, took them out and had great results. And I haven't added water to my hair since. Just been spraying the revitalizing potion daily and retwisting with chunky twists. My hair is full, moisturized without being frizzy and losing definition of curl, it's soft and detangled with volume and sheen and no build up! I've never, as a 4c hair textured person, used a product that's completely felt like right until these products. I encourage you to check out the different lines of products, support a small Black business with integrity and purpose behind it's mission. I'm thankful and grateful. #naturalhair #blackhair #blackbusiness #4chair @the4cproject @phoenixdeeprooted
The plotting (often read as innocent) face before he strikes! Don't be fooled. My dogs a menace lol. #privilegedpup #pupsofinstagram #dogsofinstagram
A week's journey of my kinky curls. Leaving the house one length, arriving at work with another. Tight coils one day, stretched definition the next. Hearing at least once a week at work, "I thought your hair was longer/shorter," and chuckling at the mystery and confusion I provide my colleagues. #naturalhair #4chair #kinkycurls #shrinkageisreal #MyHairIsLongerThanYoursButYoullNeverKnowIt
So excited to try out products from @phoenixdeeprooted! Beyond supporting a classmate from highschool, the journey and story behind her products are so powerful and let's you know there's true care and hair science going into the making of each thing. Congrats on the growth of your brand @scoop804! REPOST from @phoenixdeeprooted: Pick your Phoenix 💆💇 We have solutions for thinning hair, irritated scalps, beard growth, loc maintenance and kinky coily definition. #twistout #buyblack #melanin #hairgrowth #naturalhair #teamnatural #blackbusiness #beards #beardoil #beardbalm #instagood #healthyhair #natural #naturalhair #naturalproduct #hairproduct @RepostIt_app
Third time's a charm! Homemade strawberry jam... And some extra things to kick it up a notch! In the past I've just done three ingredient jam (strawberries, honey, and chia seeds). Today I used a Pinterest idea and added homemade vanilla extract, lemon zest, and my own idea...fresh basil! The kitchen smelled so good and the jam is delicious! 😆 #homemadeeverything
So yal know I'm slowly going more natural everything, with the exception of my junk food lol, so in today's segment of #allnaturaleverything I'm checking out @lone.body mint deodorant. I've been pleased with my diy hair and skin products, including my body powder, but my diy deodorant trials have been so-so. Tomorrow I'll test this product and see how it holds up against my day. I'm excited after reading all the reviews. I also got their spiced pepper lip balm, (they gifted me the other 😆). I can FEEL the healing in my lips already lol. No joke. #lipsonfire Anywho, I'll share more after a couple of trial days!
Just finished the book Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools by Monique Morris. Good read. Had me reflecting on my own educational experience and consider what some of my peers experienced. Has me reflecting on the policies I create and follow as an administrator. And left me contemplating how I can work to be an opposing force for the unjust and inequitable pushout that's happening. The appendices are a fantastic resource. Definitely adding this book to my personal collection. #blackgirls #schooltoprisonpipeline #schooltoconfinementpipeline
Gotta love the Sewing Club! Support Planned Parenthood.
Listening to a new podcast and heard this quote today. So timely! "...treasure innocence where it can be found"
Leaving this quote here for us ALL to reflect on. What privileges do you hold? How tuned in are you to issues beyond your personal identity markers? Last week a white male student (11th grader), after hearing a white freedom fighter on a panel, asked why white people went to the south to fight when "they weren't really directly impacted by the laws", "I guess they had to really be passionate about something because I can't think of anything that I'd do that for." I won't waste space on the level of disappointment and sting of pain I felt. If we aren't tuned in to ALL of the injustices occurring around us, and if we don't recognize how we're connected to an injustice through our silence, inaction and dismissal, things aren't going to be changing any time soon.
If 1 million+ of us committed to at least 1 community action/cause this year, the impact on our community would be monumental. Yesterday we showed up, but marching alone won't solve the issues that were written on signs and voiced aloud. What's next for you? #nextsteps #communityaction #ittakesavillage
The American dream must be accessible. This is not a request, it's a requirement. Accessibility on all fronts should be the standard. Not an add on or after thought. So glad to see signs at today's march that remind me not to recreate narrow pathways to existence as I fight for justice and build community. (at Oakland, California)
If you're in the #bayarea consider donating food, time/labor, supplies, and/or funds to this housing initiative for those who have been displaced. There's a small homes village being built on reclaimed land at 36 and MLK in Oakland.
