Once you start noticing how the incapacity to handle discomfort affects how people live their lives it's actually pretty shocking how it ruins pretty much every conceivable aspect of existence. Interpersonal relationships, romantic and platonic. Career and education opportunities. Your politics Your willingness to go anywhere. The kind of food you eat. The kind of art you expose yourself to and your ability to read it. It's never just one thing, it touches everything, and once you notice it it's like suddenly being able to see germs or something. Just this horrific catastrophe people look at you askance for screaming about. As I grow older and see what became of my friends and peers who could not learn to handle discomfort, the more I'm like. This is a genuine societal issue
Increasing my discomfort tolerance has also been one of the greatest assets to improving my mental health.
Iwaoi - Summer Dreaming
What the FUCK is the new stupid function tumblr mobile has with it popping up sharing options after I've taken a screenshot? Fuck off, I'm trying to take a long screenshot

oikawa and iwaizumi could try every position while fucking and still end up going back to the few where they can look each other in the eye because they simply can’t stand not to.
they need to kiss every second, between every dirty word and every teasing joke and every breathless praise and every moaned name. kiss slow when they’re just getting started, sweet when they laugh because ‘that tickles, iwa-chan’ and because ‘you’re such an idiot, shittykawa’, kiss with more tongue than lips when things get hotter, soft bites pressed into one lip and other. messy kisses with their teeth knocking together when they’re right on the edge.
on lips and cheeks and eyelids and necks and shoulders and chests. reaching every inch of skin they’ve traced with so much devotion that they know it by heart at their fingertips.
and looking at each other. above all, looking. they need to really see each other, go over the image burned into their retinas of the way hajime’s falls apart into gasps when he comes, and the way tooru throws his head back panting, eyes squeezed shut when he’s getting close.
there are probably thousand positions out there and they might start with them, but they always end up in the same ones, the ones that let them connect with all five senses because eventually they’ll be far apart again and those senses will become useless, and tooru’s eyes have this really, really pretty and really, really hot way of shining when he gets lost in pleasure that hajime never gets tired of watching, and there’s this soft crease between hajime’s brows when he loses himself in pleasure that tooru loves smoothing over with his thumbs.
and the smell of clean sheets mixed with hajime’s deodorant and oikawa’s mist and sweat and sex clings together so perfectly, and they sound so good moaning into each other’s ears and they can lick at jawlines and tears on cheeks without either of them thinking it’s gross.
and neither of them wants to miss any of it.
...
they’re soooo hot for their own good

whump is fun because you see a character and are like “i love you so much that i want to see you sobbing and covered in blood. i need you dying in a hospital bed. i need you cold, wet, and miserable. i love you and want you to suffer unimaginable horrors. then you can have a kiss on the head as a treat”

honestly i think it's a bit of a lost art with some younger fans these days to just like............do things? people hold themselves back from making amvs, gifs, writing fic or drawing art, etc etc because "they don't know how" but the truth is a lot of us didn't have that knowledge handed to us, we looked at what other people were doing and then tried to copy that in our own way. and yeah the first hundred thousand words you write are probably going to be kind of shit. and the first gifsets you make will probably be grainy. your amvs will be clumsily edited, and your first year or two of drawing will make you cringe in the future. but if you don't try, you'll never improve! and these days there's so many more resources out there with the internet being so large—art tutorials for specific things, gifmaking guides handed around that compile the steps down the the finest details, writers who talk about their processes, amv makers/vidders who are more than happy to share what transitions or text overlays they use. and i sometimes want to take people by the shoulders and say, just try! take the first leap! the worst you can do is make it badly, and made badly is better than not made at all.
btw it is sexy and cool to uplift and admire people who have skills you wish you had without using their ability as a stick to beat yourself with. even and especially if you are jealous of them.
there's a lot of talk about reading comprehension and one thing i think is the biggest barrier to people on this site getting better at it is simply... rushing. rushing to share something you haven't understood, rushing to have an opinion without taking the time to think about it, rushing to declare that you don't understand something
take these tags, on somebody else's post (condolences pip)
the thing is. this is what i would call an inside thought. nobody would have known you didn't get it if you didn't tell them that. if you recognised that it was important but didn't have the headspace to process it, you can reblog without commentary for others, or to come back to later. or you can save it somewhere and wait until you DO have the capacity to read it over a few more times, ponder it, consider what it might mean, figure out how to understand it, and THEN reblog it
but no. rushing to reblog while it is still opaque. rushing to admit to ignorance rather than spend the time to achieve understanding. perhaps hoping that somebody will break it down for you more simply, though to my mind it was quite simply phrased in the first place. never stopping to take the time first
comprehension is not always instant! sometimes it takes a bit of time for something to percolate after you read it; sometimes you need to read it a few times; sometimes you realise you don't have the context for it and either go and get the context or accept that it's not for you right now
please just simply slow down. you don't always have to respond to everything within a second or two. it is okay if it is not an instantaneous understanding. we all need to get more comfortable with thinking more slowly and more deeply and more carefully, and not letting our instant split second responses drive us all the time, because they are a barrier to genuine reflection
