Messages, Part Three, Research Activity #4, PH 402
The picture depicts how much our portions have grown but so has obesity and health issues. This obesity campaign useâs all 4 âAâsâ of McGuireâs psychology based model. Starting with Announce because people are able to contact a hotline to receive information about health eating issues and/or getting on the right track to eat healthy. Uses Advise because there are factual statements on this image regarding obesity and also people can receive knowledge about this campaign. Activate is used because it is motivating people to contact the hotline to receive a healthy eating packet, to change their unhealthy ways and become healthy. Lastly, uses Advocate because this ad is trying to promote a healthy and nutritional social point of view.
On the other hand, when looking at this campaign and comparing it to Kotlerâs business-based 5 âPâsâ First we look at âpriceâ, clearly the price is increasing and continues to go up as the portions get bigger and people still continue to buy. The âproductâ continues to change in size over time, but as the product is changing the behavior is staying the same because people are still eating the french fries/eating bad. The change that it is occurring is socially affecting people who are becoming obese, they are either staying in doors and/or not exercising. I do not think that this ad rely focus on a âplaceâ. The way this campaign is being âpromotedâ is buy using examples and showing was has been occurring over time. Also, it uses information along with the picture of the obese women and french fries sizes that have noticeably grown to show what is going in the ânowâ time.
I feel that McGuireâs model was used better in this campaign because all 4 âAâsâ were used and the way they were used were easier to understand. I do think that overall this is a really well laid over campaign and can match some of the âPâsâ from Kotlerâs business model, but not all and the ones that were used were not as obvious and easy to point as McGuireâs.
This is a campaign picture regarding underage drinking and alcoholism. I am going to compare this with McGuireâs psychology-based model using the 4 âPâsâ. The first being Announce, this is used because it directs people to call a toll free number at the bottom of the campaign, a number to text as well as an email. It does use one factual statement and then also states in big and bold how it has a negative impact, this can be seen as Advise. The factual statement that is used is asking âUnder 18?â as much as drinking under 18 is illegal drink from 18-21 is also illegal, so it is not 100% factual and correct. I do not feel that it is using the Activate, I feel that it is not motivating or persuading kids under 18 to stop drinking, as well as not persuading the audience to see how bad drinking is. It does use different words that alcohol might make one feel or act, but I do not see this as motivating or persuasive. Lastly, I do not think it is using any public demonstrations, ads, etc to embrace or promote a social or political point of view. Therefore, I do not think it uses Advocate.
I will compare this image to Kotlerâs business model using the 4 âPsâ. The first âPâ being price, this campaign shows the price or the after math of what someone will have to phase after drinking by spelling out all those words in that bottle, such as, short term, vomitting, violence, disease, addiction, etc. This may not be an actual number price, but it is a price someone will have to pay after they are drinking, especially drinking under age. Product is used through the words on the bottle as well, they are spelling out words that will change oneâs overall behavior due to drinking, such as anxiety, addiction, drunk, fatigue, dizzy, aggression, etc. Place is also seen through this campaign because it is targeting under age drinking, most especially ages under 18. Lastly, it is promoting through a social marketing and through National Council on Drug Abuse, but I do not think it is being promoted that well.
For this campaign I feel that Kotlerâs 4 âPâsâ provided a clearer and more useful explanatory model. I think that this campaign targets the 4 âPâsâ and is focus more towards Kotlerâs business model. I feel that the messages given off from the ad is able to be matched with all of the âPâsâ given but not able for the âAâsâ from McGuireâs psychology-based model.
