on a mechanical level, I understand the choice to have Nancy respond to candles on screen with a “Hmm,” because it shows them as an item that can be interacted with, later they can used for jack o'lanterns. but in execution, it does sort of create the impression that Nancy doesn’t understand what candles are… either that or that Nancy finds all candles deeply suspicious.
