Bull-god, drunk god, god of women and transvestites, giver of ecstasy, master of dance, lord of the emotions—such were the various masks worn by the daimon whose lineage went back to ancient Minoan civilization. In his myths and rituals, Dionysos embodied both a feeling for the living continuities of nature and a concept of the human personality as an organism deeply rooted in the nonrational forces of the cosmos. Serving as the focus for the spiritual needs of Greece's underclasses, he became the god that the patriarchal establishment could neither accept nor eliminate. And so Dionysos represented the return of the repressed in several senses: return of the religious needs of the lower classes, return of the demands of the nonrational part of the self, and return of the Minoan feeling for the living unity of nature. And so in turn he threatened several repressors: the aristocracy of well-to-do male citizens, the domination of intellect over emotion, the alienated ethos of the city-state.
Arthur Evans, “The God of Ecstasy: Sex Roles and the Madness of Dionysos,” 1988

Devotional art to Hecate Trimorphos, Three-formed, torch-bearing Lady of Magic
Love my OC'S. Like, they're my kiddos, my children and I would absolute hug them every fucking day if I could.
I also traumatize my OC'S everytime. I'm the source of all their problems and tragedies.
Conclusion: I'm the bad toxic type of parents that I criticize all the time.
How twisted of me.
Reblog if you will never. Ever. Use AI in your writing.
Pentheus, the King of Thebes, was torn apart limb-from-limb (sparagmos) by his own mother, Agave, and her sisters in a Dionysian frenzy for defying the god Dionysus.
(I want to portray the terrifying side of Dionysus!)
I think it's obvious why Phobos and Deimos accompany Ares to battle. Those who fight in battle instill fear and terror on others, but they feel those same emotions too.
Now of course, these two are born out of love, Aphrodite. Love for your people, who you might lose, by your death or theirs. Love for what you're fighting for, whatever that may be. Love for yourself, the most dangerous thing you can lose when you're blinded by emotion. And even love for your opponents, because maybe you truly don't want to hurt them.
Love makes you afraid for what you might lose in life, a constant battle with your surroundings and yourself.
Almost nothing is more terrifying than love. What if you lose everyone? What if you don't lose your people, but your love itself? What if you never get to have it? Or even scarier, what if you do?
The constant battle of living and the inevitable need for love we have is the most terrifying thing in the world. But is that not what we are?
Of course Aphrodite and Ares had Phobos and Deimos. It's nature.
Reblog if you’re an active anti-fascist pagan blog in 2026!!!
I’m looking for moots :-) (I follow from my main)
If you’re ever having a breakdown, just remember the wise words of the lord himself
My Lord, always so wise 🛐🙏
I didn't realize this needed to be said, but uhh
If you are a Nazi, you have no place in paganism.
(Or anywhere, actually 🙂)
And to clarify (since ya'll need that, apparently), that includes people who are transphobic, homophobic, pro-eugenics (i.e. social darwinism anti-vaxxer people), anti-immigrant, racist, etc.
Ya'll don't belong here, paganism is not a safe place for you, and I don't want you interacting with my blog.
No TERFS, no conservatives, none of it. Freedom and equality for all.
Dionysus devotional drawing
I was really into the more "insanity" aspect of him, usually I just see drawings about his festive and happy aspect...
The sigil is personal but I don't care sharing it, it's more symbolic than anything else.
(I really wish that the ✨butt✨ don't take down my drawing bcuz I really forgot to cover that 😭)
