Art Theft by Old Navy

My art gets stolen all the time.

I have been through many copyright infringement cases - some have been resolved amicably, and there are ones that have taken more work. This case against Old Navy (Gap) is not getting resolved right now because Old Navy is denying copyright infringement. 

They are being totally unapologetic, and have said that it would be a “bad business decision” for me to expect to be reasonably compensated for the use of my art. Instead of compensating me, they have chosen to pay a large law firm to fight me, and have even asked the judge to order me to pay THEIR legal fees.

When a company as large and mainstream as Old Navy steals my art and profits from it, and is unapologetic about it, I cannot afford NOT to fight this. My lawyers and I will be fighting this for as long as it takes.

Spread this. Make this known. Make it so that even if the original artist doesn’t win this case, they can’t just cover it up as a frivolous lawsuit like the woman whose hand burned all the way through to the bone from a cup of coffee.

Don’t let them cover this up. Don’t let them get away with this. It’s disgusting. It’s literally not that hard to make your own art when you’re a large company like this, there is NO excuse for this.

I’m having David and Goliath flashbacks here, and I mean the clothing company not the biblical story (although appropriate).  A clothing chain thinking that by ‘tweaking’ a few bits here and there they can just sell original designs as prints on their clothes and the ‘little’ artists can’t do shit.

You’d think a company like Old Navy could afford to hire artists who don’t blatantly steal from better artists…or hell have enough money to purchase the designs direct from the source.  Clearly not.
