Learn a second language, and you too one day could:
Have people incessantly question your motives for learning that language.
Experience emotions on a whole new, multilingual level of intense.
Become increasingly reliant on hand gestures to make yourself understood.
Forget words and/or concepts in your native language.
Have people roll their eyes at you, because the previous point is a massive cliche.
The same people will also ask you to translate random shit for them for their own entertainment.
You will return the eye rolling when they bring up Google Translate.
Feel like a superstar when all your hard work studying grammar and cramming vocabulary starts to pay off 😎
things that made me stop wanting to die that require no effort whatsoever
change the color used to highlight text on your laptop
move the pictures on your wall
stack whatever clutter is in your room into piles even if you don’t have time to clean it all
slightly vary your commute, even just by one street
change where you sit and scroll aimlessly on your phone even if it’s only to the chair in your room instead of your bed
drink water or juice out of a wine glass in the morning because nothing is real
shower with the lights off, without music
buy $3 flowers at trader joe’s—they look bad next to the more expensive ones but they look so good in your room
start typing things you don’t post into your notes. your thoughts can be worth documenting even if you don’t deem them worth sharing
wake up super early just once. you don’t have to make it a habit it’s just extra satisfying to go to bed that night
listen to the entirety of your favorite album from 2015
Almost all of these are about variety. Humans need stimulation! We need enrichment! We literally cannot do the same thing every day!
The other day I was feeling miserable, so I hopped on a bus and rode it all the way back to where I’d started, and my brain, which had finally had some proper stimulation via new environments, was suddenly ready to go again!
This is why taking walks/drives and trying new hobbies are good for you! Don’t turn yourself into a sad zoo animal! You need some pumpkins to roll around in your enclosure!

Back in the days
only the winters were cold.
Now,
people are cold,
hearts are cold.

“You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing everything with logic. If words control you that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass.”
“لن تنتهي معاناتك إذا استمريت بنفس ردة الفعل العاطفية تجاه كل ما يُقال لك. القوة الحقيقية تكمُن في جلوسك في الخلف وملاحظة كل شيء بالمنطق. متى ما حكَمتك كلمات أحدهم فهذا يعني أن باستطاعة أي أحدٍ أن يحكمك. تنّفس و دع الأمور تأخذ مجراها.”

Normalise liking poetry because you like the way it sounds and art because you think its beautiful. You don’t have to understand the deeper meaning of something to appreciate it - poetry is bloody difficult to analyse and art requires an extensive knowledge of movements and artists to properly get - so please just wonder around art galleries and decide which pieces you’d buy if you could, and read out lines of poetry simply because they have a nice ring to them.
"Never are voices so beautiful as on a winter's evening, when dusk almost hides the body, and they seem to issue from nothingness with a note of intimacy seldom heard by day."

I love it when someone says things like “Would've been more fun if you were here" or "I wish you were here so we could do this and this". It shows that you kinda matter to them to certain degrees, that your existence matters. They mean that your mere presence could have a difference. And what's so subtle yet beautiful than this ?
