“i made a program that creates a body perfectly encapsulating their mind files, and they still hate them!”
he’s talking about their avatars. Caine seems to be actively telling us that his program creates a body based off of how the cast see themselves.
Kinger is the smartest and oldest. The king piece is important and strategically used in the endgame of chess.
Ragatha is a people pleaser and struggles to be vulnerable without getting hurt. She’s a ragdoll. Easily destroyed but also quite durable.
Jax is afraid of being vulnerable and open and Rabbits are usually seen as prey, leading them to be cautious and guarded.
Gangle is shy, fragile and used to masking. Her ribbon body shows off her fragility while her sad and happy theatrical masks are her emotions given physical form while also implying that she regularly has to mask her emotions to fit in, being a sensitive person.
Zooble is widely interpreted as having body dysmorphia, and so, feels uncomfortable in their body. This condition is given physical form through their avatar which is made of removable and uncomfortable parts. They bring up a handful of times that they can’t find something that feels good, irritating them despite having the physical ability to build a body to better suit them.
Pomni is more often than not, the main member of the cast that the others confide in. she takes very much of a leader-esque role in certain situations and is very serious about her situation and life in the circus, paralleling her Jester avatar which is very child-like and playful. Furthermore, in medieval times, Jesters were known to cut their ties to the ‘real world’ to enhance their reputation as a detached observer. This again goes against who Pomni is, the newest member of the circus cast who, up until recently, assumed or hoped that eventually she would return to her original life.
In short, the circus cast would hate their avatars because:
Kinger’s body is a reminder of his job, what with Computer Chess being one of the first AI apps in the 1940s/50s and being a reminder of his wife. He’s now a king without a queen.
Ragatha’s body is a reminder of her life as someone’s plaything, rather than their daughter. It’s a reminder of how much abuse she can/has been forced to endure and to a lesser extent, of the wealth she lost, being sent instead from ‘Riches to Rags’.
Jax’s body is a reminder of his vulnerabilities which is why his personality is more that of a predator. He lashes out and attacks others to distract from his own weaknesses.
Gangle’s body is a reminder of her disability, of her fragility and her inability to relieve herself of the masks she’s now been forced to wear.
Zooble’s body is a reminder that their body will never be theirs. Not really. Even faced with a near infinite amount of parts, no form their body can take is good enough for their Dysmorphia.
Pomni’s body is a reminder of her inability to be taken seriously despite her intelligence, emotional and otherwise, but more than that, her body is a reminder that a single decision can make a difference.
…and this all frustrates Caine to no end, because, without actually being human? he can’t/couldn’t begin to actually contemplate or understand these issues.
Sure, he can craft adventures where certain characters may shine, and he can fix Gangle’s mask and create a therapy session for Zooble… but he can’t actually make sense of the issues they feel. He lacks empathy and personal experience so while he can sense there may be a problem, he can only simulate understanding very human problems that he literally cannot fix.

Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish, voted on by my lovely Patreon members for July, featuring Sybil, Rory and the gargoyle from THE KNIGHT AND THE MOTH by Rachel Gillig!
This one is a symbolic interpretation of one of the scenes in the book where Sybil divines for Rory. The gargoyle dragging Sybil down, yet clinging to her desperately because he wishes to escape with her. Rory is gently pulling them both up, away from their old ties to the church, yet not forcing it. This art has been officially licensed and prints are available in both shops. (link in bio!)
this silly thing has been my lockscreen for the past few weeks
a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:
-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings
-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)
-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)
-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)
-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same
-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well
-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped
-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt
-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians
-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be
-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia
-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that
-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told
-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions
-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect
-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think
greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!
Totally agree with all of this, excellent points.
But at the same time ancient mythologys were told by oral tradition largely, they were stories that were passed down, embellished and invented to make your king or family look good, and to sound fun for that generation of people.
I think adaptations are in the spirit of ancient storytelling, and while it's incorrect to claim that something like Percy Jackson is accurate to the original myths, I don't really like when people disparage it and Epic and other adaptations as 'worse' and 'inaccurate' etc.
Ovid was Roman! His Metamorphoses is a major source for so many of the myths and it is a second (more realistically, 152nd) hand version! Homer wrote (or didn't, cause we're not sure he was a single person) the Iliad and the Odyssey based on centuries of passing down an already ancient story!
So while Percy Jackson and Epic aren't accurate to the myths, they are the modern versions, adapted for our generation to tell classic stories that reflect the moral lessons we need to learn. (Medusa is a perfect example, actually - the Greeks used it to teach lessons about upsetting the gods, and in our modern society we've adapted it to send an important message about SA and female autonomy.) Just as we take the time to look at the original myths through the lens of the society they were created in, so too are these versions of the myths adapted to be viewed through the lens of our current society.
Just be nice to each other. Understand that the version you know may not be the version someone else does. Don't get angry at someone getting it 'wrong' - share the version you know, compare and contrast them. It's a fascinating thing to compare, even between the original Greek sources.

Listen. I get it. Content creation is stressful. And Erik doesn’t owe us anything. BUT I feel like Erik could at least make announcements about his posts? Not everyone has access to patreon and on YouTube we BARELY hear of him. It’s frustrating. He doesn’t have to tell us his life story but I feel like a simple post with,
“oh hey, I’m busy for a while. I can’t post for a bit”
Or
“Hey, I can’t posts the next audios on YouTube so they’re going to be free on patreon”
Would help ALOT OF PEOPLE. Not everyone’s on tumblr either so like a big chunk of the fandom is just left in the dark. I’ve felt like this from the very start. Whenever he wouldn’t post for a long time, turns out all the updates were on his patreon. WHICH I DIDNT HAVE.
Im grateful for the content he gives us. But I feel like he’s just pumping out content to keep us fed instead of satisfied.
