“I could honestly eat these all day. At work I have my quills in a jar on the left and my sugar quills in a jar on the right. You don’t want to know how many times I’ve mixed the two up.”
Vic chuckled a bit, “They are pretty delicious. So take as many as you want.” she offered. “So what’s up?” she asked, casually.
“And just for us. We won’t share with anyone,” she teased. Hannah was worried about how Vic was holding up under the strange circumstances.
“Just for us.” she agreed, smiling a bit more. “It’s nice to be able to talk to someone who actually knows me, you know?”
Rainy Day
Neville sat at the worn, oaken desk, the window above him wide open and flicking droplets of water onto his blonde head. His features were scrunched in concentration, many pieces of discarded parchment littering his work space. He had been trying to map out how exactly he got to where he was now, as well as his ‘current’ self off in Scotland, compared to the possible trajectory of active Death Eaters. It was all very muddled in Neville’s mind along with the quiet rush of rain. With an exhausted groan, he let his head fall on the desk. Why hadn’t he taken time to learn proper mathematics? The sound of footsteps tapped behind him. He straightened up, forehead smudged with ink.
“Sorry ‘bout the window - I like the smell,” he said, latching it shut before turning.
If there was one thing that made her feel slightly better about all of this, was that Teddy and her were with Neville and Hannah. Though she felt guilty that she’d pulled them along to this mess. “Keep it open if you wish, I don’t want to intrude.” she said calmly, “I brought you some tea. I boiled too much water so extra tea was made.” she smiled, placing the cup of tea on the desk in front of him. “What are you working on?” she asked as she looked at the work in front of him.
Afternoon Tea
Tea was about the only thing that seemed unchanged from 1972 to 1996. So that’s what Frank gravitated towards. Putting the Kettle on the stove he stared at the pot until the familiar whistling sound brought him back into reality. As he heard the door to the kitchen open, he spoke before he even knew who’d entered. “I boiled extra water if you’re interested?”
Everything was so strange and messed up and Vic blamed herself. She was making herself scarce over the past couple of days, trying to stay out of the way. But after Remus left, she knew things were more tense, and tea always seemed to calm her. She was hoping everyone else was busy, but she didn’t mind seeing someone in the kitchen, she smiled politely, “Thank you. I seem to have good timing.” she said, pulling out a cup. The words dawned on her and she mentally kicked herself, good word choice.
“Wow, thank you,” Tonks said, surprise evident in her tone. “How’d you know these are my favorite?” She hoped this wasn’t some pity move because she’d been so upset by Remus leaving or worse some move by the suspicious girl to get on her good side. But that wasn’t going to keep her from taking the sugar quill.
Vic shrugged slightly, “I didn’t know that, I just know I like them. I got loads, so if you want some, go for it. I got more than I should have to be honest.” But to be truthful, she didn’t actually get them herself. She bought some, but the worker at Honeydukes seemed to take a liking to her and got more.
“Eet cannot be. Eet ees too ‘orrible.”
“What is? What happened?”
“Yes! Lots of bread. I’ve been having a carb craving as well, so this is perfect,” Hannah said, clapping her hands together happily.
“Then we can have as many carbs as we want.” she said happily. Hannah always seemed to make her cheerful, she was just so kind. It reminded her of home.
Ted smiled and set his quill down to put his attention to the sugar one and the girl.
“That’s very thoughtful. I’m sure people will be very appreciative. I know I am, for one.
“It’s not everyday you wake up and you’ve missed a number of years, and have a daughter.”
Even when he said it out loud it sounded like a novel his grandfather would had imagined. Ted took a bite out of the sugar quill to calm him.
“Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Ted.”
Vic smiled, she made a mess of everything to begin with. The least she could do was bring sweets. She couldn’t imagine what the people from the past must be dealing with. Knowing your future seemed strange and terrifying to her.
“Of course. But the daughter you have is pretty awesome, so good job, I guess?”
It sounded weird when she said it, but sometimes her mouth ran away from her.
“Nice to meet you, Ted. I’m Vic.”
Andromeda nodded in answer, taking a moment to process those words. You’re not alone here. She knew she should find some small measure of comfort in those words, but somehow they filled her with dread instead. If many more people had found themselves out of their own times, then this was certainly cause for alarm. “How can we fix this?” she asked finally. “This cannot be good for timelines and all that.”
Vic felt guilty, this was her fault after all, but she didn’t plan on telling anyone that. “I don’t know. But we’ll figure something out. I’m sure Dumbledore will think of something.” she had never met the man, because of his death, but she had heard stories. If anyone could fix this, it would be him.
Ted blinked under his heavy eye lids before they wandered to the sugar quill held out before him.
“Oh… thank you. That’s very kind of you. How much do I owe you, Miss?”
Vic waved her hands in dismiss, “Oh, don’t worry about that. It’s just a sugar quill, enjoy.” she smiled. “I got a whole load of them, thought maybe people could use something sweet around here.”
Hannah nodded enthusiastically. “I am always hungry. I think some soup would be nice. I’ve been craving a rich and creamy one for what feels like ages.”
Vic nodded, herself, “Oh, soup sounds delightful. With some bread for dipping. Lets go get some soup.”
“I got you a sugar quill as well.” she said, offering out the other sweet as she enjoyed her own.
Hannah’s eyes narrowed, studying the person in front of her intently. “You know, I think you look hungry.”
Vic’s smile widened slightly, “You are correct, once again. Let’s fix that shall we? Are you at all hungry?”
Her nose wrinkled at Victoria’s argument, though she did appreciate the effort. “If you had my mother make a list of qualities that she would want in a daughter you’d find I don’t have a single one.” That was hyperbole but there was still some truth there. “Fleur on the other hand, well she hits on every one. Maybe we could pretend she’s their daughter. She has the blonde hair… just have to explain the accent.”
Vic was confused by this. She had heard so many stories of Tonks that she’d never in a million years ever think she wouldn’t have been wanted as a daughter, or friend, or mother. “I may not know you....at all. But from the brief time of meeting you, I’d have to say that you’re pretty brilliant.” she said, sincerely. “I’m sure we’d have to explain a lot more than the accent.” she managed to chuckle out.
Grimmauld Place

She could not help her smile, could not hide the silvery glow that came off her skin when she was too happy. Fleur often thought of the Harpy in her veins as a curse, thought of her birthright as a nightmare; but when it showed how happy she was with a man she loved, even the young veela herself could not hate it. This had never been the future she’d expected for herself. She’d always thought she would just marry a boy from a good family and hope they could be friends. She would do anything to enjoy her time with love.
“—England ees ‘ard sometimes, but I ‘ave made some good friends ‘ere. I’m at Gringotts, though.”
“It doesn't sound cliché at all.” she assure her. “I know exactly what you mean. I feel the same way about someone myself.” Her smile was sincere and her mind was on Teddy now, wishing he were here. She hated being parted in this time, she was constantly worrying, and he seemed to always put her at ease. And with the thought of Teddy and her smile, she too began to glow a bit. Which she noticed and worried, if Fleur were to see this, she couldn’t explain. She noticed Fleur’s glow and it was so familiar it made her even happier, which was not helping hide her own glow. “I hope you’re liking it here. And Gringotts is a perfectly fine place to work.”
“—Mostly Bill’s family. Though eef anyone asks I said nothing about eet. I don’t theenk I am what zey wanted for ‘im.”
She shrugged it off in the way she had become used to doing. The only person she would let see the real extent of the damage on her heart was Tonks, simply because she knew the girl wouldn’t be running off to tell on her any time soon. Fleur wanted to be liked, but nothing she did ever seemed to be good enough.
Vic just seemed to get more confused as the woman spoke. That didn’t sound like her family. They were all so welcoming, she couldn’t wrap her head around it. But she couldn’t keep her mouth shut, not Vic.“Well screw what they think. If Bill likes you, then they can learn to accept that. Who else could they want for him? You’re what he wants, so that should be enough for them.” Vic had a hard time letting things like this go. She was all about acceptance, and though she rarely spoke so fervently, she couldn’t help it.
Teddy grinned despite himself as she began to check him over too. It was a nice feeling, to be heavily reminded that she cared for his well-being. He smiled softly, as she sighed audibly and he then had to physically restrain himself from saying ‘i love you’ when they had bigger things to deal with at the moment. “Either Dom or Roxanne, is my bet honestly I didn’t see either girls acting up at the party. Though again, they could’ve planned it before hand. Either way, we need to firstly figure out if this is serious or not.” He then leaned over and pressed his lips to her forehead in comfort, before pulling away. He caught her glancing at the stair-case and began to head that way as well. On the bright side, if he were to be trapped in an eerily quiet house, then at least he was with her. “It’s a shame we’re not going to be able to eat any of that cake though. It looked delicious.”
She had to agree, Dom and Roxanne were both pretty well behaved at the party, but she wouldn’t put it past them if they had done something. She smiled instinctively at the kiss pressed to her forehead If she were to be here with anyone, she’d have wanted it to be Teddy. He was a constant comfort to her. She managed a chuckle at his last statement, “I’ll make sure to ask Gran to make another one for us.” she promised, as they walked to the staircase. The house was silent, which was strange to her, she never knew the burrow to be quiet. She supposed everyone was being quiet for the prank. “If they did do this prank, they had help. I’ve never known any of my family to remain quiet for this long.” she joked. However, her smile faded as she saw a calendar on the wall. “Teddy...” she began as she looked closer at the date. Her mind scrambling to make sense of this before grabbing her necklace. “No...that says 2020 right?” she asked, looking at the year on the calender.
