Regina frowns in confusion at the knocking on her door. She’s not expecting company, certainly not tonight. 

It’s election night and she already knows in spite of all of her hard work, of all her campaigning and attempts to right as many wrongs as she can, of all the time and energy she has spent in office and doing what she can for Storybrooke, in spite of all of it she knows what the result is going to be. 

She doesn’t want to sit around to hear it. She’s been rejected enough in this lifetime and to sit in that diner and hear the results would only hurt.

At the very least here in her mansion there will be nobody to see her break down, to hear her cry or jeer and sneer at her. 

Regina sighs bracing herself as she opens the door only to falter in surprise, “Emma?”

“Hi,” Emma replies, “I um…you weren’t at the Diner.”

Regina chuckles sadly, “Funnily enough I didn’t want to watch my son and the rest of this town fawn over your mother when she wins. Speaking of, shouldn’t you be there?”

Emma sighs, “I’d rather be here. Look I know we’re…well I don’t know we are. We’re Henry’s Moms and we’ve been seeing a lot of each other for him and for work…either way I know what it’s like to be the outcast, to feel alone and unsupported and I can’t talk about it with my parents or anyone else in this town, but when I’m with you I know that you get it. Regina, I know tonight is going to suck and it’s going to hurt…”

“Your mother really needs to teach you about hope speeches.”

Emma rolls her eyes, “I don’t think that’s what you need.”

Regina nods as she leans against the door, meeting Emma’s gaze as she asks, “And what do I need?”

Emma smiles hopefully, “Someone in your corner and,” she pauses holding up a bottle of vodka, “a drinking buddy?”

For the first time tonight Regina smiles and steps away from the door to let Emma in and amazingly when the election results roll in she finds they don’t break her, not with a pair of warm arms holding her, a shoulder to lean on and a little light in her heart that she had thought long gone flickering back to life.

What if Regina kept a diary of her feelings for Emma before they got together then continued to write about their relationship as it went on? She talks about falling in love and how great the sex is with Emma. A fan fiction within a fan fiction I’d say.

“Emma, I’m h-” Regina trails off seeing Emma surrounded by her journals, tears shining in her wife’s eyes. 

Emma blushes sheepishly, wiping her eyes as she stands to take Regina’s hands, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to read all of these. I was clearing out the attic and getting rid of Hope’s old baby clothes and I guess I brought this box down too. One of the books fell out and I saw my name…”

“It’s okay,” Regina chimes in, “You didn’t mean to find them…I wasn’t hiding them. You and I have no secrets. If nothing else I’m sorry for the earlier entries.”

Emma chuckles, “You mean when you hated me but were totally lusting after me?”

“What?” 

That insufferable woman dared to cut a branch off my beloved apple tree today. The audacity! Then to stand there all smug in that tank top and holding that chainsaw in her arms…

“Insufferable,” Regina points out. 

“Checking out my arms,” Emma corrects, “I prefer the later ones though.” 

Emma would probably say it’s creepy but I’m sitting here watching her sleep. It’s early, maybe 5 in the morning but I got up with the baby to let Emma rest. I love these moments the best, seeing her so relaxed and unguarded, just Emma and I wonder how I got so lucky. 

“My big softie,” Emma says kissing Regina’s cheek. 

Regina huffs, “I am not a softie.”

“Are too…I didn’t know you kept diaries though.”

Regina shrugs, “I always have. It was a more common thing in our realm and I just got used to it and sometimes on darker days, I like to go back through them and remember happier moments.”

“Like this one?” Emma teases reading aloud.

Oh god. I never knew sex could be like that. I have had plenty of lovers but Emma…Emma…is it possible to be addicted to a person? I think I am. I could spend hours in bed with Emma, her body…oh and the way she uses her tongue to…”

“Okay,” Regina interrupts blushing bright red, “I think that’s enough trips down memory lane.”

“There’s no no need to be embarrassed, you’re right, I am incredible.”

Regina rolls her eyes, “Tonight I think I’ll be writing about my wife sleeping on the sofa.”

Emma pouts, “No…and seriously I’m not teasing. I love you and reading what you wrote was wonderful.”

“Really? Even those earlier entries?”

Emma nods, “Hey, our story had to start somewhere and yes I love all of our story…promise me something?”

“Anything.”

Emma smiles wrapping her arms around her wife, “Keep writing.”
