ya know something? lp1 is a good ass album! the songs are catchy as hell, the vocals are gorgeous, great beats. there’s a song for every mood. it’s an album liam should be proud of, and he has every right to be proud of it. there’s heartbreak, there’s love. there’re songs that are sexy as fuck, and there are moments of incredible vulnerability that are not forced or contrived, especially in the midst of what liam has been so vocal about lately.

and i am just unclear on this obsession with comparisons and charting, when never would anyone think that liam, who has not been promoted barely at all in the US, was going to debut at some insanely high number on the US billboard. he’s not a household name, he’s hardly done any major performances in the US, his label doesn’t pay for big interviews, he hasn’t bundled his album with a tour. what he does do is make good fucking music and work harder than basically any other artist on the planet. there’s no shame in liam’s success. people act like anything less than a number one is a flop when at the end of the day this man is a working musician who gets more radio play than most people, has devoted fans, an album that bumps, modeling contracts, and on and on. people act like charts are the end all be all of success as a musician, or worse, as a human being. not to mention that people actively work against him at every turn, trashing him, degrading him, using all of their time and energy to destroy him, yet his heart and talent shine through

it’s like people have been living in a fandom bubble for too long and don’t understand how to actually measure success. especially in a time when basically the charts (and films, and pop culture, etc) are dominated by like the same ten names over and over. labels and media don’t want to invest in new talent when there are huge artists putting out new songs every other month. new people can break in, but it ain’t easy, and it’s often the luck of the draw

i say all this because i am so incredibly proud of liam and happy for him. i love the album and i hope he is proud of what he has created, and i wish people could take their fandom goggles off, even his own fans, because the expectations are insane
