Lest we forget that these experiences with Ilya were Shane's first times with a man. But do you know who never forgets? Ilya. Rozanov. There's a post going around about what a caring and conscientious lover Ilya is and this needs to be SHOUTED louder from the freaking rooftops !! The gentle questioning to find out if he had ever been with a man before, the inviting and initiating, the consent check-ins...When else have we ever seen the supposedly "fuckboy" character in anything treat their partners with such care and consideration over and over again? Sure, Ilya lashes out at Shane in a very human way later when he is dealing with the literal horrors of life, and Shane definitely didn't deserve that. But imo Ilya has shown that he is a fundamentally good person who bad shit has happened to and who deals with pressures that most of us can't even imagine, while always taking care of his sweet, initially hesitant, then enthusiastically consenting lover, Shane. Hollander.

I love this because in my mind, people were way too quick to label Ilya as a fuckboy, when that’s not his personality at all.

Both him and Shane have an unspoken agreement initially- it’s just casual sex. It’s not a ring on anyones finger, so sleeping around with others is totally morally neutral.

As you said, he’s a gentle and compassionate sex partner 99% of the time (discounting the vegas scene because we know that he was intentionally holding himself back and putting distance between them because it was getting too real)

As a retired slut, I’ve met many a fuckboy in my time, and Ilya doesn’t fit the profile. He’s way too into consent, for one- which, yay. Love that representation. He also derives so much pleasure from making sure Shane has his desires satisfied, and vice versa.

the “i don’t know that side of you at all” line is so underappreciated because it’s really the first time ilya has revealed an insecurity to shane, something so ingrained in him by his father that he wears it like a second skin, and he positions it as a light-hearted joke but shane doesn’t get why he would say that about himself. shane meets him head-on, so earnest and sweet: i don’t know that side of you at all. i only know that you have put in relentless work to hone your craft and dominate your career. i pour everything into this sport and you’re the only one who can keep up—how could you be lazy. i made you pursue me for two years before we had sex and you never stopped. you could have anyone; you put in the work for me. every time we fuck you give and give and give. you’ve learned my body and figured out what i need because i never let myself. i don’t know that side of you at all.
