I think that even though P5A feels like a strange adaptation(for me personally), it's still very important for Shuake. In it, the gauntlet was replaced with a chess piece, but this only further emphasized their grief for each other. If the glove is a promise of rematch, then the chess piece is a promise to play together again, as they wanted.
In P5A, Ren is shown as more passive and calm, as there are no player responses. But we also get two Shuake moments: the moment in the engine room when Ren slams his fist against the wall after Goro's death (which he doesn't do in the game; Ryuji does it instead), and we also got an entire OVA about Ren's longing for Goro. And it was precisely because of his longing for Akechi that he cried. For the first time. It's a very heavy scene, considering that for most of P5A, Ren is presented as a calm person. There's that moment of melancholy in the game too, but in "Proof of Justice" it's conveyed better, in my opinion.
