Is there someone that is watching/watched "The Power" on Prime Video?? I feel nobody knows about its existence and it's a total shame. I felt chills down my spine when it addressed some issues, and rage, and injustice, and a lot more I can't express. Between the many lines, this is my favourite exchange, between mother (Margot) and daughter (Joss):

"Margot: I just want to see it the way you see it.

Joss: Ok, but don't get mad. Like, on Tuesday I went for a run and I just lost track of time... and it got dark. Instead of rushing, I just walked home in the pitch black.

Margot: Joss!

Joss: No, it was nice. That's the point! I run with both my earbuds in now. And I don't put my keys between my fingers just in case. I don't make elaborate plans with friends just to make sure that we all get home from a party safe. Like, I didn't even realise I was living in constant fear. And sure, like, there are still things that we should be scared about out there, but... I just feel like a hundred punds lighter and a hundred times stronger because I have this thing in me. Can you imagine what it's going to be like for Izzy? She's not gonna look at the ground when a guy passes by. And she's never gonna worry about what she's wearing. Can you imagine growing up with that kind of freedom?

Margot: I want it."

Reveal fics always have Merlin’s use of magic being SUPER obvious after everyone finds out, but what if he reveals it and people still don’t notice half of what he does.

Like, they’re running from some bandits and Merlin turns around to enchant a wall of fire between them, but when he catches up with the group Arthur just yells, “There you are, Merlin! What took you so long, tripped on a root like usual? Why didn’t you use your magic to help us if you’re oh-so-powerful?” And all the knights look at Merlin questioningly, as if Arthur has a point.

Lancelot is the only one who sees the smoke and takes notice of the fact that the bandits are off their trail even though they were running in a straight line. If Gwen was there, she would’ve shared a knowing look with Lance and thanked Merlin. But she’s not. It’s just Merlin, Lancelot, and the five most oblivious people they know.

In addition to the print terminology stuff: the visual shorthand icons and ad graphics for something about writing are still often pen-nibs, fountain pens and typewriters…

…while graphics of a monitor, keyboard and mouse remain visual shorthand for computing…

…even though most writers now use monitor /  keyboard / mouse or even laptop / touchpad.

In addition, headers for “this blog / website is about writing” are often in one of the many imitation typewriter fonts complete with smudges, or just Courier.

The start and end call icons on most / all smartphones is still the handset of a classic desk telephone, and sometimes the open-app icon is a complete phone.

The term “hang up” for “end the call” refers to something even older - one of these…

And of course the Save icon is indeed a 3½ inch floppy disc.

Why it wasn’t a 5¼ floppy is a mystery. The icon version is just as distinctive.

Also, why various OP updates never changed “Save” to the graphic of a CD / DVD or flash drive is another mystery, and nowadays a Save icon should probably be a cartoon cloud.

Graphics and terminology are funny things.

I don’t know if it is an unpopular opinion or not. Whatever.

The other night I happened to be watching the tv and stumbled upon a channel broadcasting “The shape of water”. I decided to stop and actually watch it, I remembered lots of talking about this movie when it came out, all the praises, all the nominations and awards. I never watched it and decided it was time to rectify that.

Well... the thing is that I didn’t like it. It wasn’t a bad movie per se, I just found it stupid and quite disturbing. I really can’t fathom why it was so praised.

hes 19, with unlimited power, and he ain’t got a gf. the only time we see him interact with any women his own age is when he’s rejecting like 7 of them rapid fire. he pretends to date pacha in a gag that lasts like 10 solid minutes. listen to me god damnit

Okay, but just in case anyone is coming to tumblr dot com for my hot takes on 20+ year old kids' movies: Kuzco super WAS gay (or at least coded as such) and of course, I didn't get it until I watched it as a gay grownup.

He is played obviously camp and dramatic, for a start, and there is the aforementioned "hate your hair/not likely/yikes yikes yikes/let me guess you have a great personality" summary dismissal of all his potential brides. Then he spends dinner asking Yzma about Kronk ("so he seems nice? He's what, in his late twenties?") and otherwise being slightly obsessed with him.

Then there is the whole Adventure of Doom with Pacha, him being ever huffy about the Kiss of Life, and then the restaurant gag where Kuzco takes to playing Pacha's fake wife and dressing up in ladies' clothing with great gusto (reinforced by the waitress' "bless you for coming out in public" remark when Pacha says they're on their honeymoon). Then when he is finally de-llamafied, we don't see him paired off with the obligatory girl from the lineup earlier, as might otherwise be expected in a Disney movie. Instead he is still single, but goes to found family it up with Pacha, Chica, Kronk, etc, which dare we remark is a very queer trope.

In short, I have no idea how a Disney movie with no white people (all the characters are Indigenous/people of color), a gay king, cross-dressing jokes, and the most offbeat plot of all time actually ever got made (can you imagine the Family Friendly Mouse doing that today? Let us also talk about Kronk because he is a brilliant deconstruction of both toxic masculinity and the musclebound henchman stereotype.) Other than that this was the Chaos Hour of animated movies in the late 90s/early 2000s, and yes.

So yes. There you have it. I will not be taking criticism at this time.

I know this movie only came out yesterday, but Millie and Henry played off each other so well, and it was such a charming film in general, and I really really REALLY liked this take on Sherlock as opposed to, say, Brattydroop Crumblepant’s version.

Pls more Enola and more of this fantastic Sherlock, PLEASE.
