Witch hat atelier predictions based on the voices in my head (as an anime only). Hopefully some of it is correct. Spoilers up to anime episode 6:

- The dude who gave coco the book is obviously radical, but it can go either way (obviously destruction of the current system - the question is whether or not the point is that everyone deserve magic or that they want to destroy magic). He and quifrey definitely got some history. Mutual hate?

- coco will join the brimmed hats (predicted at episode 4, foregrounded at episode 6.

The grandson will be a character - he is the same age.

There will be focus on the moral ambiguity. Possibly a disabled character? Someone who we will feel empathy for and make us consider how you can't use magic on people, even to heal. Like, someone who uses "forbidden magic" and makes you ask why is it forbidden. I know if I had magic I would make my chronic illness easier to bear yk?

Agott has mommy issues. She either idealizes her mum and wants to be like her or wants to be better. Her mum is established and important. I would say her profession is knowledge based, considering agott's impressive spell against the dragon. Perhaps a librarian (knowledge based, highly respected, one of the professions mentioned to us).

Qifrey has something wrong with him. Non human? Beyond human? Handled questionable magic and is now something more? Cursed (less likely)? Something in his eye was. Inhuman idk.

Qifrey and olruggio clearly got some history. Qifrey definitely keeps secrets even from him. Memory erasing magic used against olruggio at least once? (If I'm correct about olruggio not knowing qifrey's secret - he seemed loyal enough to the system, and qifrey definitely got problems with the authority). The memory eraser will definitely be a dramatic moment in the story in some way - it's a great tool. Qifrey possibly already deleted olruggio's memories, or, alternatively, he will do it during the story. I think that it already happened and will happen during the story, it may even be how we find out that it already happened or something.

Also. Qifrey's inhumanity is related to how hidden his eye is - it doesn't look human, and that's why he hide it completely. It will raise suspicion, but it may also be completely recognizable as something.

Qifrey's secret and eye is somehow related to the Silverwood tree. This theory is based solely on vibes (the tree is important, was humanized, and if there are characters related to the tree they should be really strong, since it is the source of magic in a way).

Morally questionable actions from qifrey (even more so. Maybe going into how what is morally correct and incorrect is defined by society, and in this case a somewhat elitist one?) qifrey almost definitely thinks he is a bad person if my predictions are correct btw. Like if he erased memories from people close to him? The guilt will be intense.

Qifrey is obviously an outsider of the witch society - whether or not by choice. Not like Coco, he may have been born into it, but he is not involved in the politics and such. We saw that he rarely goes to the great hall.

The obvious lesbian and gay couples - coco agott and quifry olruggio will have parallels.

I also find the fact that coco saw olruggio's spell interesting. I don't think he is evil though. He is burnt out and lost his passion. I also think he and qifrey knew each other before he became his watchful eye (which is definitely a conflict of interests btw)

I definitely hope that morality will be a theme in the story - the idea that healing is forbidden magic will be weird and a missed opportunity if left unexplored, but I definitely think it builds up to it with how questionable everybody is.

Noah kahan's willing and able (the most personal song in his new album for me) as buggy's relationship with the roger pirates. Idk how to explain it. Could be romantic post breakup with shanks, but also platonic about rayleigh in specific parts. Idk.

I'm watching season two of jjk after putting it off for years (I watched the first two episodes when it came out) because I want to see my glorious queen kirara (and hakari). Gege's characters are really complex, even if the story has some issues, and I feel like we don't give him enough credit. I say this specifically about some of my favourite characters: megumi who is suicidal and the fandom treat him as a lost potential and not as a character who has gone through a lot, riko whose treatment is terrible all around, and my glorious king suguru.

Now, suguru is a source for many disagreements, probably, but I feel like I see too many claims about how the source for his struggles is how he is jealous of satoru. Riko, however, is entirely misogyny. I feel like some people miss how tragic her character is because they think of her in the context of the men, or as annoying, but she's a kid! Let her be annoying!! That's her right!

Or, people see her character as misogynistic because she is a sacrifice and exists in relation to male characters. I fear gege actually criticised the jujutsu society here. She is a sacrifice. She is not allowed to be anything but that. She doesn't have the right. But she doesn't want to disappear. She wants her soul and dreams to continue on even after the merge. She wants to spend her last day not in some safe space, or even on vacation. She just wanted one more day at school, with the her friends. So her existence is limited to her being the sacrifice to the point that she doesn't have a family. And then she dies. She doesn't die as a sacrifice. Is it good or bad? Depends on who you ask. But she also doesn't choose to die. A moment before, for the first time, she gets the chance to choose, to actually consider freedom. And suguru would've listened to her choice. But as she was reaching out, both literally and figuratively, toji shot her. Because that's his job. Because she is nothing more than that to him. To the jujutsu society. To the world, really. She's a vessel, and she never got the chance to being something else, because this is what her existence is limited to. Is it misogynistic? Depending on how you see it. I don't think gege introduced it as a good thing. She is not the sole reason for suguru's descend into madness. She is kind of erased from the narrative because she wasn't that important (in the way that she's not mentioned), but she also haunts the narrative. Her duty as sacrifice is not supported, because she is given a choice, and when given a choice she is being "selfish" and doesn't choose the greater good but herself. And it's not introduced as a bad thing, but as a natural right which was taken from her. Hence, it is a critique.

Since I'm irresponsible and continued one piece and now I can't think about anything else, I want to talk about Ace.

There seem to be people claiming that Ace's death wasn't that sad or impactful because there wasn't any way for him to survive, or because he was rage baited and could've just escaped, and I think that those people are so close to the point yet so so far.

The reason that Ace's death is sad is because his life is a tragedy. There wasn't any other end to the story. He couldn't escape the crimes of his father and he died the son of. If he ran away it would've still happened, just at another point. Ace spent his entire life trying to be someone with his own worth, and I think that people forget that he didn't think he was worthy of living, of people caring for him, because of his crime of being born.

He didn't die as Ace - pirate at his own right, Whitebeard's 2nd devision leader, brother of Luffy. Son of Rouge. He died the son of Roger. The fact that he couldn't outrun his destiny, that it was decided before he was even born - this is why it's so sad. I thought Ace was fun in Alabasta, but the fact that his life is a tragedy, that he didn't get to live, to grow, to meet Sabo - this is what makes him interesting. Even if he became a marine or a revolutionary, he would've been executed for the crime of being born. But he wasn't. He still chose the sea while trying to distance himself from Roger. It would've always ended this way, but he tried to live the life he wanted before. Ace didn't believe that anyone truly cared for him, and he thought that he was not worthy of the war. Characters died for him, but he thought they were worth more than him, that they threw their life away. Ace found out how loved he truly is on the execution platform, and by then, this love was a burden because he didn't find himself worthy of it. So this is why it's sad, why it's tragic. Ace understood that he want to live too late, and he never got a chance to live not on borrowed time, to grow old. He didn't die because he was stupid, or because Luffy needed to grow up, he died because there is no way the marines would've let him survive. He died because his pride is all that he has. So there is no universe where Ace survives because both Ace and the marines don't think he is worthy of surviving, but at the same time, if things were a little bit different someone could've forced him to walk away and chose to live. If Luffy was a little bit stronger, if Whitebeard stopped him from going after Teach in the first place, if Sabo remembered earlier, if Garp was a better grandfather, if Shanks wasn't late.

Both of those things are true, but Ace wouldn't have been able to do it alone. He needed someone to do it for him, to drag him out of this tragic narrative, but no one could do it because the narrative decided he must die because of his blood. In a way, he was dead since the beginning, and this is why he still haunts the narrative in Wano.

Also, note that hubris is essentially characters defying the gods because of overconfidence or pride, so their pride is the reason for their downfall. Sounds familiar?

Just read volume 91 instead of studying (despite the semester ending in like a week) and I have some thoughts.

This is a somewhat long post, and I'll probably write a few other posts about this volume, what I think, and what I think will happen (or what I wish will happen). This post is about Nami and Kinemon and her lack of agency in regard to her outfit.

Firstly, I would like to say that I still hate Kinemon. My brother said that he actually behaves better and that by Wano, he forgot how he behaved in Punk Hazard, but I hate how he forced Nami into an outfit she was uncomfortable with. I have a problem with some of the One Piece outfits, but if it's a choice of the character, while I side eye Oda, it's not that bad since in the story Nami has the autonomy to wear a bra if that's what she wants.

That was one of the things that made her plot line in Thriller Bark work - the creepiness of absalom wasn't accused, and the fact that he forced her into a wedding dress is seen like that. It's also the one bath scene I'm somewhat okay with - it's not only fan service, but also illustrates how her autonomy is stripped and how bad it is by putting her in the most vulnerable position - literally naked.

This is, of course, not to claim that Nami is useless, but to note how her choice of clothing, even if I don't agree with it, is usually her own choice.

Yet she is forced into a revealing outfit that she is visibly uncomfortable with, and that can't be accused by saying that it is good for fighting.

Additionally, Wano is a traditional country, and they are trying to bland in. The characters we meet aren't dressed in a revealing way (minus the horse girl that I also had a problem with).

For reference, here is Okiku's introduction. While she is not from present day Wano, she is someone Kinemon knows, so she is part of his reference (that is to say - he is also unaware of how people in Wano dress today and is supposed to dress them according to what was common when he was in Wano. This is a cute, non revealing, traditional outfit. Okiku is also an icon, and I love her.

For additional reference, here is Robin as a geisha. While it is more traditional, I wanted to add this as part of the reference to how Wano is, in fact, a traditional country.

Toki clearly wears long clothes here. Speaking of which, I want to see more of her, and I want to know why when we are shown the graves, her name is not there despite not being dead. Why isn't she next to her husband?

Now, after we looked at the outfits of some female characters, let's see the outfits Kinemon gave to Nami and Carrot. Those outfits can be accused by the different fake professions they are given, but it's clearly not the reason.

Carrot's outfit is cute. I like the bandana, and I like how comfy it looks. Look at her expression. She also thinks it's nice. Now look at the difference in the skirt length - Nami's skirt is tiny, and she also has a slit. It's also too small - it doesn't cover her shoulders and her cleavage is highlighted by how the outfit is just too small. This is obviously not true for Carrot. Kinemon just chooses to sexualize Nami. He also refuse to give her a normal outfit. Furthermore, look at her face. She is visibly uncomfortable. Both her and Carrot wear dark kimono with light flowers, and they both have the stash thing. They also both have v line top, but Carrot had sleeves, her stash doesn't look like a corset, and her v line is far higher. I don't know too much about the design of kimonos, but it doesn't seem right.

I do, however, have a modern reference to how the top is supposed to look:

I don't know who this is yet other than some teacher who works for Orochi, but notice how she is wearing a similar kimono (floral, stash), and her v line is far higher. Her sleeves are long.

This is also not a matter of breast. Carrot is not flat:

Nami questions Kinemon and asks if this is truly how a kunichi dresses, but his reaction doesn't spark confidence, not in me as a reader and not in Nami:

Got kind of tired, but Kinemon doesn't really give Nami a choice. He says she can either dress like Shinobu or keep the outfit he gave her. Nami stays with the outfit, but she is not happy with it. It will be fine as long as nothing happens to it. She can't really fight or run or be comfortable in this outfit because some dude inside the story decided she doesn't have the right to be comfortable because he always sexualizes her. She is not from Wano. She dresses in a more revealing fashion. It bothered him in Punk Hazard as far as I can remember, but suddenly, she doesn't have the right to dress modestly because what. It doesn't fit her character? How he sees her? How the audience wants to see her? This is the dude I'm supposed to feel sorry for, to root for. I still dislike both him and Momo. I do, however, love both Okiku and Tama.

Thinking again about koala (aka one of my favourite characters).

I wanted to talk about her and the sun pirates – how she (and children like her) is the hope for a new generation and for relations with humans. How she joins the revs and specialises in fishman karate. How she wants to help fishman, and it is stated in reverie as a pre-established and well-known fact.

She grew up wanting to be like fisher tiger. Also him throwing the weapons away and her not using weapons. The only human with the sun tattoo... I want her and jinbei to meet so so bad.

While talking about fisher tiger – isn't it interesting how we first hear about him from boa? Boa, who hates men, but perceives him as her saviour, knowing that he hated humans? Yet she talks highly about him, and rightfully so. Boa has to hide her past because she could be banished due to her past slavery (which is insane btw). She conceals her trauma and shame, and it makes her grow cold, whereas koala does not need to hide her back and her mark, because fisher tiger knew that for her to overcome her trauma she had to stop living in fear, filled with shame.

He covered her mark with a sun - a symbol of both hope and of belonging, and by doing so he didn't only give her freedom and future, but also a sense of belonging. He made her part of the sun pirates despite hating humans.

It's just. That's so interesting to me. Koala. Fisher tiger. Boa. All of them went through slavery, and they came out of it differently (obviously), but also. Koala is the only one who has a real chance to outgrow this. Fisher tiger made sure of this. Also super interesting how both boa and Fisher tiger find the slavery symbol shameful and choose to hide it from their peers.

Thinking about how garp is a government dog and people give him too much credit. Personally, I don't give him credit for anything ever.

He keeps working for the WG even though he has seen the horrors and knows what they can do. He does not climb the ranks and tries to make a change (which is naive but also. At least it is something). He follows orders and chooses the WG over his own family.

We know that there are terrible things the marines have done before which effect them (saul, kuzan), yet garp chooses to stay for far longer than kuzan. He uses his position to save ace from dying as a baby (which he does not see an issue with but okay), yet he raises ace to think that he has no right to exist. Garp claims that ace chose his fate and it wouldn't have happened if he became a marine, yet being a marine wouldn't have deleted ace's crime of existence. He wasn't executed for being a pirate. For being in whitebeard's crew. He was executed for being Roger's son, even though he does not claim him as his father.

Ace dies as Roger's son. Not as his own person (which is the real tragedy – the fact that he does not have a right to exist. To live.).

And garp just sits there. He doesn't even try to help ace until it's no longer possible. He is a government dog because he keeps working for it. Dragon left. Luffy is a pirate. And garp? Garp is a marine. He is old and he saw things and tries to deny the reality, but he does not make a change. He is not a hero, he is an old man who can't accept his mistakes and his crimes.

Who does garp protect? What is his goal? Garp can't face the things he has done, the things the world government does. Or he simply doesn't care (which is worse). Everytime someone claims that garp is actually good and a hero or whatever their claims fall apart. There isn't just marines and pirates. There are the revolutionary army. Which dragon founded after leaving the marines. Garp's own son was able to leave the marines and try to make a change, he gave up on things for this. He centers his life around this. And his father? His father fails every single person he considers family. He is arguably worse than sengoku.

Also, garp being a hero is definitely a propaganda and rooted in how he helped the marines (hence "hero of the marines") and not in actual heroic actions since if he was actually heroic the marines wouldn't have considered him a hero (the greatest hero in one piece is fisher tiger idc).

Dadan should've killed him. Also I know he is an interesting and complex character, the fact that I don't like him doesn't mean I don't understand him. It just means that I think he is pathetic and that I can't believe anyone in his family keeps in touch with him.

ALSO, I know kuzan stayed in the marines for a long time and he didn't leave because of morality, but I think he is a morally complex character.

I just finished reverie (vol 90) and I'm actually going insane. It was so short??? I don't want to starts wano because of uni, but I didn't see enough sabo and koala. Also kuma got me crying (and bonney??? They're obviously related. It's so sadd).

Like yeah wano is cool and all of that but I want everyone to be okay right now. It was super fun to see so many characters meeting each other. Also I need sabo to burn this place down right now.

Also. Unfortunately I can't hate whitebeard anymore after hearing marco talking about him. Sad.

Can't stop thinking about wish list (from taylor swifts new album) and shuggy. From shanks's pov.

Everyone has some big wishes, but he just wants to be with buggy. Bonus points if we're talking about the amazing aus in which buggy adopts asl. Anyway, the dissonance between what pirates are supposed to be and want; what is expected from shanks, and what he truly wants: a simple, carefree life with buggy.
