Koushirou Izumi Week: Hanging With the 02 Crew

Izzy might be good at many things, but even he can’t fight off the dreaded Draw Four card.

Late entry for @izumikoushiroweek - Izzy is one of my favorite characters so I wanted to contribute something for kicks!

These are some sketches i did of izzy for koushiro week. I really really want to do more/make a fully rendered piece but no promises. I just really wanted to do this since i love digimon and izzy/koushiro. There isnt a lot of content of them online or officially but this side of the fandom is great!

Under the cut is just more doodles but a lot more messy.

Ill just explain the drawings here

1 - its a redraw of a scene in 02 were izzy is yelling at tai and i grew this while waiting for my friends put side of a tcg shop. Also just a drawing of 02 izzy

2 - me trying yo figure pit how to draw tentomon, motimon and pabumon since im bad at drawing the digimon themselves

3 - more tentomon sketches but also me putting izzy in a more spooky outfit. It could count as dressing him up but i dont cuz i dont really like the drawing + i drew him with glasses

4 - just more tentomon practices trying to copy how other ppl drew and stylized him

5 - thumbnail for hobbies since ive been getting into digimon tcg i also wanted to draw izzy getting into it too

Quick "messy doodle and headcanon compilation" post for the last day of @izumikoushiroweek 2024!

Koushiro as a Father

We don't know a lot about the Chosen Children's children - but the things we have seen were enough to make Koushirou's daughter one of the most beloved in fandoms worldwide. She's adorable and appears to be rather spunky - and I have gathered a bunch of headcanons through the years (which, to my delight, are also shared by @ahiddenpath for a huge part): Having grown up as an adoptee himself, Koushirou puts a lot of value on his beloved family and it's impossible to imagine him not having a lovely relationship to his daughter. Raising her to never question her whereabouts, living her life to the fullest, supported by her father and surrounded by loving grandparents and tons of aunts and uncles. She's harboring a natural sense of curiosity, independence and adventure - that may get her in trouble here and there, but seeing as she is pretty resourceful and has a huge support system, she knows how to navigate her way out of it. Personally, I like that the name "Hotaru" (= firefly, enlightened bug) seems to have become a widely accepted fanon name for her - and I am currently working on a whole fanfic depicting her teenage self [x] [x] to be capable of traveling back in time to prevent a digital disaster from happening... Because she DEFINITELY comes after her dad when it comes to being hands-on and having the smarts as well as the guts to save the world.

Koushiro the Creative

Alright, I have a TON of headcanons when it comes to his individual relationships with all the other Chosen children. But most importantly, I am still disappointed that Tri kinda missed the opportunity to form an alliance between THESE THREE - for plot reasons alone, it could have been absolutely perfect, because their synergies as teenagers are unbelievably compatible in theory, so hear me out: Koushirou is a naturally curious and helpful person, who, during the time of Tri, struggles with his sense of fashion, right? Mimi, during the second Tri movie, ALSO struggles with a fashion-related decision, wanting to create designs of their costumes for the school festival... And as for Sora, we know that she's been involved in helping Mimi (and Meiko) making those costumes - and that she's still having troubles with the iemoto flower arrangement business of her mother she's supposed to take over one day... Maybe I am just going completely insane, but you cannot tell me that Koushirou wouldn't immediately go into research mode once he got even a glimpse of Sora and Mimi struggling with either subject; helping Sora to find sources to understand flower symbolism, aesthetic arrangement and how to incorporate those into her growing interest in fashion, as she could in turn support him to find a wardrobe he is comfortable with. Mimi could also function as a more bold mediator between them, as she is not only LITERALLY associated with flowers herself, but also very much interested in fashion - I know I have referred to this piece a million times before, but I really believe this kimono was made by Sora and have the headcanon that it came to life through group effort. (For an AU, I also love the idea that Koushirou and Mimi were childhood friends and Mimi was really into flowers, so he got himself a book to research the meaning of flowers - and that is why, years later, he is capable of advising Sora with the meaning of flowers. I don't know, I just love the idea of Koushirou bonding with the girls a lot, which includes Hikari as well.)

Growing

I still remember that one of the biggest fandom explosions back then when Tri's concept art dropped was about the realization that Koushirou had FINALLY surpassed Mimi in height. But one aspect that was, in my opinion, heavily underestimated was also the realization that, by the age of 16, he was the exact same height as Sora (as I have shamelessly included here). Granted, I believe his personal main goal had always been to reach up to Miyako - but I don't think he'll ever be able to surpass her and he might also have to come to terms with the fact that Takeru will most likely end up towering over him at some point as well... However, I always liked the idea that Sora would be among the first who'd notice his growth spurt, so she'd (more or less gently) nudge Taichi about it to be the first to point it out to him. I really believe that this may be a push in confidence to some degree, because while it usually doesn't bother him at all, there are times when a little external validation cannot harm. While I'm already at it, as adults, I can see the height chart go like this, from tallest to shortest:
