Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) dir. John Hughes
@wsteros, anakin skywalker: i can’t see it from here. how’d it look?
a warm-hued and booming explosion kindled the night sky, residual sparks from the fire zephyring through the air. she'd watched the detonation like it'd been a light show, their operation finally coming to a close— an assignment given by the jedi council themselves, a rarity in tasha's life. [the request had not been made to her directly, but rather anakin— an important distinction. a girl could dream, though.] the republic and jedi order had once fought for the planet of ryloth's freedom, a tenure of peace short-lived before the separatists arrived back on the world, this time prepared. they'd chosen to build a new droid assembly factory, making their new mark on the rebuilding planet— something neither the republic nor jedi order could turn a blind eye to. the council had given the assignment to anakin, him choosing his companion under the guise of needing a sentinel to help navigate the startled locals. [later proclaiming a case of agony to her as they descended to the planet, artoo blowing raspberries in the background at the choice of words— romance at its finest.]
he'd succeeded in the mission, though— just him. tasha and artoo had been placed on guard duty, a request made to keep an eye and ear outside the facility for any spare droids who may have meandered in. it'd been anakin who'd killed both battle droids who patrolled the entrance of the building, made his way inside, planted the explosives, and lit up ryloth's sky. when his voice echoes through her comlink, her gaze is flickering back and forth between the inferno-burning building and the orange chromatic night sky. ❝ like the fireworks on republic day! better, too. i asked artoo to record it, he'll show you when we get back to the ship. ❞ with a chirp and elated wiggle of acknowledgment from the astromech, she pats him gently in response, containing the snickers that threatened to leave her lips.
❝ are you able to get back over here, or do you need me to— ❞ her right eye catches a glimpse down at the burn site, two battle droids and a destroyer approaching the scene. artoo nervously coos in response to the sight, enough for tasha to rub the top of his head gently. ❝ uh, scratch that, actually. seems like reinforcements have arrived— two droids and a destroyer so far, not sure about any others. seems like an odd number... ❞ it is an odd number, until she sees a hoard of them approaching the building in the distance. oh shit.
❝ uh, negative, scratch all that— we are getting the fuck out of here! ❞
@tyefights, anakin skywalker: secret mission. what secret mission?
she's blamed the war for his recent antics. the burden of an overbearing weight piling on his shoulders. [the thing about chosen ones is: they're not given a choice. their fate has already been decided for them.] anakin's not the same man he was prior to the war— she sees it every time she looks at his face. exhaustion only soldiers can recognize. if these walls in the jedi temple could talk, tasha wonders what they would say; the messages they would have for their fellow peacekeepers. when he asks the question, it hits a nerve. a nerve tasha didn't even know she had— at least not directed towards him. it's enough for an eyebrow to pop up.
she blames her response on her own exhaustion, perhaps even paranoia. every time they've been in the same room together for a week, she can feel his eyes staring into the back of her head. a blaster aimed, finger resting on the trigger. the night he returned after the opera, they argued— their first argument in five years. she didn't understand the context of his anger, he didn't understand how she couldn't.
nothing had been normal since. she's avoided him rather, choosing to stay in her own room at the jedi temple rather than sleep in his. it's an act of cowardice, nothing she's new to. the only normalcy right now.
❝ it's not really a secret mission, per se. it's more... getting in touch with my sources. remember how we got that information about general grievous' location? the council wants me to double-check with some people i know— make sure it's not bogus. perks of knowing people in low places, i guess. ❞ it's an attempt to diffuse whatever's radiating off him. anger, anxiety, exhaustion? a hybrid? tasha's not sure, but whatever it is, it's gnawing at her bones.
❝ you can come with me if you want? i know it's not the most exciting stuff, but you can do some of the talking... most of the talking... intimidating persona works too. ❞
@tyefights, odelia kon’tsfiya: so we’re arms dealers again?
❝ technically. it's what the council requested, not me. they're afraid if we engage with them head-on, the blaster fire will spook the civilians. we need to do this quietly and indoors, preferably sneaking back in after they think we've left. master windu's suggestion. ❞ most of the time, she turns down the council's offers for assignments. she cites her busy schedule as one of them, signing up for guard duty whenever possible. this war isn't her fight. it isn't the jedi's fight either, but those are mere thoughts— unspoken opinions that never leave her mouth. but this seemed too good to pass up. undercover and with her best friend? sold within a heartbeat. (perhaps the council was beginning to learn their method of working with their sluggish jedi: bribery.)
briefcase in her grasp, a republic military-grade 773 firepuncher rifle resides inside: their bargaining chip for the initial meeting. a way to scope out the inside of the building, get an understanding of what they're walking into and dealing with. stripped of their jedi robes, they appear as any underworld coruscant people— deceiving in looks. a glance is taken downward at the briefcase and then, her gaze is directed back toward odelia.
❝ okay, let's go over the plan again— for my sake. show up at their front door, pretend we're arms dealers, sell the rifle, say our goodbyes, sneak back in, capture their leader, grab the rifle again, and bring him back to the temple for questioning— conspiring with the separatists using republic military bargaining chips. easy peasy, right? besides— guess who came prepared. i have the blueprints of the whole building, all floors, top to bottom. i know exactly where the air ducts lead to, and i know exactly where our man varon is. ❞
she's proud of herself, and if her tone didn't speak it, the shit-eating grin across her face did. it also calmed her nerves. a plus-plus.

𝚂𝚃𝙰𝚁 𝚆𝙰𝚁𝚂: 𝚁𝙴𝙱𝙴𝙻𝚂 𝚂𝙴𝙽𝚃𝙴𝙽𝙲𝙴 𝚂𝚃𝙰𝚁𝚃𝙴𝚁𝚂. feel free to change pronouns/tenses/anything to suit scenarios, etc.
the jedi knights are all but destroyed.
i’m just trying to sell a couple jogans here.
well, who’s gonna stop us?
sorry, sorry. not looking for trouble.
stay on alert! repeat, this is a code red.
what’s the emergency?
thanks for doing the heavy lifting!
if the big guy catches you, he’ll end you! good luck!
pretty gutsy move, kid!
okay, you caught me! i give up!
hey, look— i stole this stuff, whatever it is, fair and square.
today is not your day.
you have a better option? come on!
do you have any idea what these are worth on the black market?
you said this was a routine op. what happened down there?
please, it’s been a difficult morning.
how about a little less attitude and a little more altitude?
if i didn’t know better, i’d think you did that on purpose.
if you knew better, we wouldn’t be in this situation.
look, i was just doing the same thing you were.
you have no idea what i was doing. you don’t know me.
nothing would thrill me more than tossing you out while in flight.
aren’t you a little busy at the moment?
you’re not thinking what i think you’re thinking.
they knew our protocol and were waiting in position.
it could signify the spark of rebellion.
next time they make a move, we’ll be waiting for them.
if i told you, i’d have to kill you. and i might just kill you anyway.
look, i know you’re not gonna believe me— but it’s like this thing wanted me to take it.
you’re right, i don’t believe you.
hand me the lightsaber.
lightsaber? isn’t that the weapon of the jedi.
not too good at following directions, are you?
who are you people? i mean, you’re not thieves exactly.
we’re not exactly anything. we’re a crew, a team— in some ways, a family.
if he tries anything, sound the alarm or shoot him.
i owe those hairy beast. they saved some of my people.
if we don’t intercept this ship, we’ll never find them.
can we please get rid of him?
you know, this whole “mission” thing is nuts.
i’m not against sticking it to the empire, but there’s no way i’d stick my neck out this far. who does that?
at least things seem to be going smoother than our last op.
it’s a trap! we gotta get out of here! it’s a trap!
the kid’s blowing another op!
they’ll follow the plan. it’ll be fine.
yeah, ‘cause the plan’s gone just great so far.
artificial gravity is down for two minutes!
attention, rebel ship— surrender or be destroyed.
this is your first and last warning.
i can’t see it from here. how’d it look?
wow, you’re about as bright as a binary droid.
trust in the force.
i believe the lower hanger is a diversion.
and this time, try not to leave until everyone’s back aboard.
first you ditch me, then you hit me?
thanks. thank you— i really didn’t think you’d come back for me.
have you heard of the spice mines of kessel?
i’ve come this far. might as well finish the job.
i think you have something that belongs to me.
good luck saving the galaxy.
you can learn what it truly means to be a jedi.
so we’re arm dealers again?
i already know the mission. let’s head to the spaceport.
you have plenty of room! stop crowding me?
i have never been so insulted.
i can’t risk an incident spoiling these negotiations.
this is so humiliating.
secret mission. what secret mission?
trust an astromech to ruin everything.
i couldn’t help noticing your predicament.
so we steal to stay alive. see? told you i already knew this.
you can short-circuit an entire ship with these.
you appear to be malfunctioning again.
hurry! we’re running out of… time’s up!
you’re trying to shoot me?
the mission is doomed, and so are we.
jedi training? never heard of it.
have no fear. help is on the way.
remain calm, my friend. all i need is your location.
finally— someone on your crew who understands business.
my friend, i hope you live to bargain another day.
now you’re speaking my language. i’ll go get my gear.
i knew some form of rescue would arrive.
wait— don’t shoot! don’t shoot!
the simplest gesture of kindness can fill a galaxy with hope.
for now, show me what you have on your rebels.
you recorded everything, old friend?
very funny. but i don’t need your help.
well, this isn’t some place— it’s my place.
don’t go blaming this on me!
this is my ship you’re wrecking, and i want you off it.
don’t even think about coming back without at least one meiloorun fruit.
you made me lose the rest of the supplies!
don’t crowd me, i’m flying here!
so now, i’d be saving your life— right?
you do realize this isn’t your room?
at least tell me you dismantled the locator beacon.
do you know which way we’re supposed to go?
what’s the worst that could happen?
we both could wind up dead.
oh, boy— here goes nothing!
let’s just say we’re eternally even.
i didn’t want it to fall back into the empire’s hands.
thought it was a moment that needed to be immortalized.
you did say you wanted to be my inspiration.
