the gym wasn't exactly where jake expected to find a sense of home. between the metallic clang of weights, the hum of treadmills, and whatever playlist was currently fighting for its life through the speakers, there wasn't much about it that reminded him of australia. and yet, somehow, the second he spotted a familiar face across the room, the feeling settled in anyway. a grin immediately pulled at his lips.
"aye, there he is!"
jake abandoned the dumbbells he'd been pretending to enjoy and made his way over, shaking his head as he got closer. he hadn't seen chris properly in what felt like forever. schedules had a habit of getting in the way of things lately.
stopping beside him, jake reached out to give his shoulder a light shove before grabbing a nearby towel to wipe at the sweat collecting along the back of his neck.
"how've you been?" he asked, genuinely curious. "besides getting ripped. do you get bigger each time i see you?" jake asks, hand already testing out chris' arm.

most people had already filtered out for the night, managers long gone and the usual rush of footsteps replaced by the distant hum of air conditioning and music leaking through closed practice room doors. he'd stayed later than everyone else again. it seemed easier that way. the longer he spent working, the less time he had to think about everything else. his hoodie was half-zipped, damp hair pushed back from where he'd run a hand through it one too many times during practice. he was scrolling through his phone as he walked down the hallway, barely paying attention to where he was going until movement caught the corner of his eye.
jake looked up, and stopped. for a second, he thought he was imagining it. because despite everything, some part of him still expected to see heeseung around every corner. in every practice room. sitting in the lounge. stealing somebody's charger. old habits died hard. except this time it actually was him. the realization landed a beat too late, leaving jake standing there awkwardly in the middle of the hallway before he could stop himself.
"oh." his mouth twitched immediately afterward, somewhere between amusement and embarrassment. "wow." jake let out a short laugh, dragging a hand across the back of his neck. "didn't mean it that way." he shifted his weight, suddenly aware of how strange this felt. "hey," he decides. "here to visit sunoo?" the question coming hot.

🌟 Jake [weverse 20260423]
Her fingers loosely, absentmindedly, trace over her chest, playing with a necklace that she's wearing. A soft huff escapes her as she watches a video, something silly, mind-numbing, not at all important but distracting enough to pass the time.
8:55pm
Karina stretches, a little languid and lazy, before moving off the bed and towards the door. She never actually heard back from him, never knew whether he would arrive or not, but something in her says to go and check anyway. There's no sound as she walks quietly through the apartment, hair loose and falling down her back while the robe slips open and shows a little more skin than appropriate.
Not that anything about this would be considered as such.
The knock comes as soon as she reaches it and a pleased smile plays on her lips as she opens it. There he is~. That charming smile looking at her like he's here for any reason other than what's offered.
"I do admire a man who knows how to be on time." Karina opens the door wider, stepping out of the way as she invites him in. "And one who can follow instructions." There's that teasing tone, the one she uses only when needed rather than often. The one that keeps men coming back for more.
jake’s gaze flickers the second the door opens, quick and instinctive before it settles back on her face like it never left in the first place. it’s automatic, the way he smooths into it, into the version of himself that knows exactly how to respond, how to exist in moments like this without thinking too hard about anything else. "guess i’m full of surprises tonight."
his voice is easy, light enough to match hers, like he didn’t almost sit in his car and drive off instead. like showing up was always the plan. he steps inside when she moves, brushing past her just close enough to register without lingering. "instructions weren’t that complicated," he adds after a beat, glancing back at her over his shoulder, the hint of a smirk tugging at his mouth like it belongs there. it’s all practiced. effortless in a way that doesn’t require him to think about anything beneath it.
not the quiet that followed him here, not the empty spaces he’s been avoiding filling with anything real. not the way everything lately feels just slightly off, like he’s a step behind in his own life. he just leans into the doorway further inside, head tilting slightly as his eyes land back on her, expression unreadable for half a second too long before it shifts again.
"besides, i did tell you that i came fully trained."
The brush of Jake’s shoulder lands and stays longer than it should in his head. Heeseung lets himself lean into the railing instead. "Mm," he hums at the mention of practice, like it’s just another passing detail. But his jaw tightens faintly, something flickering behind his gaze before it disappears just as fast. "Sounds about right."
He doesn’t ask anything else. Jake’s teasing earns a small exhale... almost a laugh, but not quite. Heeseung dips his head slightly, nudging back when Jake bumps him again, softer this time, easier to respond to than anything else being said. "Dramatic?" he repeats, glancing over at him briefly. "You’re the one who showed up late." His chuckle comes out just enough. For a moment, he considers saying something more... something real, something that explains the pauses, the distance, the way everything feels just slightly out of place. He doesn’t.
"It’s less crowded..." he says instead "Figured you’d appreciate that more than a noisy cafe or something."
jake lets out a quiet scoff at that, shaking his head a little as he leans more of his weight back against the railing. "i wasn’t that late," he smirks. "you’re right, though," he adds after a moment, glancing back out at the water. "this is better." it’s quieter. easier to exist in without having to fill every second with something.
his fingers tap lightly against the metal railing, restless again before he pushes himself off it with a small exhale. standing still suddenly feels like too much, like if he stays there any longer, the silence might start pressing in where he doesn’t want it to. "c’mon," jake says, tilting his head down the path, already taking a step before fully looking at him. "let’s walk or something."
"i’ve been cooped up in practice rooms all week," he continues, voice lighter again, slipping back into that casual rhythm even if there’s a bit of tiredness dragging underneath it. "if i stand in one place any longer, i might actually lose it. plus," jake adds, nudging him lightly as he starts moving, "you owe me at least a decent walk if you’re gonna drag me out to your secret sad-boy river spot." it’s teasing, easy on the surface, but he doesn’t look at him for long after, gaze drifting ahead instead as he falls into step beside him.

katarinabluu: my place. 9 o'clock. don't be late x katarinabluu: [ katarinabluu sent an address ]
The woman places the seed, gives him the option. There's no expectation for him to show up but she doesn't give him a chance to question if she's serious or not.
If she wasn't — she wouldn't have sent the address.
Relaxing on her bed, satin robe loosely tied as she scrolls through her phone, not quite waiting for him to show up — but definitely wondering if he will.
jake reads the message more times than he needs to, thumb pressing down on the message to copy her address as if his body already made the decision.
8:52 finds him outside her place anyway, engine off but keys still in his hand, shoulders slumped forward as he stares through the windshield like he might find a reason to leave if he waits long enough. he doesn’t. he never really does lately. it’s easier not to think about it, about anything, really. when there’s somewhere else to be, someone else to focus on, even if it’s temporary. especially if it’s temporary.
by the time he actually gets out of the car, he’s already smoothed everything over. expression neutral, steps steady. he doesn’t knock right away, just leans there for a second, jaw tightening before he finally lifts his hand and taps against the door. when it opens, he doesn’t say much at first. just a small, easy curve of his lips, something practiced and light that doesn’t quite reach anywhere deeper. "your package is here"
It has been a while since they managed to catch up, to hang out and do something that wasn't to do with their work, and Chris knows that. "Yeah, it's been too long. So much has been happening."
Between tours and schedules and comebacks galore, Chris knows that they both have had their fair share of chaos lately so knowing that they'll be able to sit down and actually hang out causes a slight amount of tension to ease from his shoulders. It'll be nice to be reminded of home again.
He laughs and shakes his head, "don't worry, half the time, do we ever know what is happening with the game? As long as my team wins, I'll be happy." They are surrounded by staff the moment they are off the stage, helping them remove their mic packs, guiding them whichever way they need to go. "Wash up and then meet at mine in a hour or so? I've got some beers in the fridge so we can just order food when you get there."
It feels like such a normal thing to do, invite the bro over for a game and food, not thinking about what schedule they have on tomorrow or even what fans will say. Just two men, enjoying their bonding time over rugby league — like they would back home.
jake nodded along as chris spoke, a quiet understanding settling in his expression at the mention of everything getting hectic lately. "yeah, it’s been a lot," he admitted, voice softer for a second, like he didn’t need to spell it out for him to get it. there was something grounding about it, though standing here, talking like this, like no time had really passed.
he huffed out a laugh at that, shoulders loosening as staff started to gather around them. "honestly, i just go off vibes half the time," he joked, dimples showing as he glanced over. "if everyone else looks stressed, i assume something important happened."
as his mic pack was being taken off, he shifted a little closer, nodding easily. "yeah, that sounds good. i’ll head over after i clean up," he said, already sounding more relaxed at the idea. "missed that, you know? just normal stuff like this." his grin came back. "don’t start without me though. if your team wins before i get there, i’m calling it rigged."
The river was quieter than he remembered. Heeseung stood near the railing, hands tucked into the pockets of his hoodie as a soft breeze brushed past him, carrying the distant hum of the city. It wasn’t late enough for the crowds to disappear completely, but it was quiet enough that no one paid him any real attention and that’s what he needed. Quiet. Space. Something that didn’t feel like a stage or a waiting room or a conversation he hadn’t prepared for. His phone sat heavy in his pocket, the last message still open.
“I’m here.” He’d typed it three times before sending it, deleting words that felt too formal. Anything that sounded like things had changed more than they should’ve. They hadn’t. At least… that’s what he kept telling himself.
Heeseung exhaled slowly, gaze drifting across the water as it reflected broken pieces of light. He wondered if Jake would notice anything different. If they would be different. His fingers flexed slightly in his pocket. He hadn’t seen Jake alone like this since... No... he cut the thought off before it could settle. A small shift of his weight, and then he glanced over his shoulder briefly just to catch Jake arriving.
"Hey," he muttered under his breath, smile barely forming.
@jaaake
jake almost doesn’t show up. he sits in his car longer than he should, fingers tapping restlessly against the steering wheel while his phone screen dims and lights back up again. nothing about this should feel off. but everything lately does, and jake’s gotten pretty good at dodging anything that might force him to actually sit in it. still he ends up here anyway. he steps out, his eyes find heeseung quickly, lingering for just a second too long before he starts walking over.
"hey," jake echoes, voice lighter than he feels. he slows just a little when he gets close, like he’s not sure if he should go for something more some kind of hug, but he doesn’t. instead, he settles beside him, shoulder brushing his in a quiet half-second of contact before he leans back against the railing.
"you’ve got good timing," he mutters, glancing out at the water instead of right at him. "we just finished practice not that long ago." his tongue pressing briefly against the inside of his cheek before he huffs out something that could almost pass as a laugh.
he bumps his shoulder against heeseung’s again, lighter this time, trying to pull things back into something easier. "didn’t think you’d go all dramatic and pick a riverside meetup," he adds, glancing over."what is this, some kind of movie scene or something?" his gaze drifts back out over the water, quiet for a beat before he tilts his head just enough toward him again. "or are you just trying to impress me?" he says, softer, the tease slipping back in even if it doesn’t land as smoothly as it used to. he nudges him again. "kinda worked, not gonna lie."

A hand clasps on the other man's shoulder as they wait for the female idols to start moving off stage. "Hey man, how's it going?" He grins, knowing fans are going absolutely wild over the interaction. Lately, Chris has been talking about hanging out with his Aussie Ois and Jake has happened to be one of them. "What are you doing after this?" He looks over his shoulder and waves at some of the flashing cameras as they begin to make their way off stage. "I think there's a game on soon, was going to have a couple and watch — if you're down?" While he may not talk about it a lot, Chris is a huge sports fan — especially when it comes to league.
jake’s face lit up the second the hand landed on his shoulder, grin coming easy like it always did around chan. "hey, been good," he answered, giving his arm a quick squeeze in return, dimples showing as he glanced out at the crowd before leaning in a little. "feels like it’s been a minute since we actually got to talk."
he followed chan’s gaze toward the cameras, offering a small wave of his own before looking back at him, interest already piqued. "a game?" he echoed, brows lifting slightly. "you already know i’m not saying no to that." his smile tugged wider, a little more relaxed now that they were moving off stage together. "couple drinks, good game… yeah, i’m in. just don’t get mad when i start yelling at the screen like i actually know what i’m talking about."

he should probably be embarrassed, but he can't find it in him. he's too full of relief and gratitude that he made it in time, that all of his fluster and concern had been for nothing. the little hints of affection aren't lost on him, dino keened on every little movement, every gesture. the warmth bloomed up his arm, sparks around his wrist, dancing across his knuckles. his smile grew, yet softened. tender and devoted. "carrying you? that'd be an honor." the busyness of the gym seemed to melt away, music silenced— the only sound being jake's voice floating up towards him and the salient beat of his heart. he flushed under the praise, ducking his head to hide the blush as he continued his gentle massage. his heart fluttered faster, butterflies dancing in his abdomen as he leaned down to brush a kiss into the younger male's hair. he hoped it wasn't too much, overstepping some boundary or an uncomfortable amount of pda, but he found it difficult not to— to touch, to kiss, to want to be closer. he gravitated towards jake, his own personal sun. "you can't just say that and expect me not to keep distracting you from your next set." he would carry him out right now if he could, find a quiet place to kiss him senseless and show him who was really the lucky one.
for a second, jake forgot about the gym. the clang of weights, the buzz of pop music, the faint smell of rubber mats and sweat. it all faded the moment chan’s lips brushed his hair. the world narrowed down to that single, fleeting warmth. his breath caught, and for a beat, he just stayed still, eyes fluttering shut before a slow grin curved at his lips. his hand came up to chan’s chest, fingers curling lightly into the fabric of his shirt. not pulling, just feeling the steady rise and fall beneath his palm. "you can’t go around saying stuff like that and then do that." the teasing faded into something softer as his gaze lifted, locking on chan’s. jake’s thumb brushed along his jaw, the touch tender, before he leaned up and closed the distance, pressing a kiss to chan’s lips, slow and unhurried. it wasn’t deep, just warm enough to say you don’t have to hold back. when he pulled back, his grin was still there, dimples deep. "and for the record," he murmured, "i think being carried by you might ruin me for actual workouts. not that i’d complain." his hand lingered at the back of chan’s neck, thumb tracing idle circles.
