Hiker Discovers Abandoned Town in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee
"About a mile up an unnamed gravel road inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the back way into an abandoned neighborhood and hotel, some of which was originally constructed more than 100 years ago."
In a film titled Tennessee Wonderland (click here for link), Liles explores the town and houses of this long forgotten but newly discovered ghost town.
"I am walking through Aokigahara Jukai forest, the light rapidly fading on a mid-winter afternoon, when I am stopped dead in my tracks by a blood-curdling scream. The natural reaction would be to run, but the forest floor is a maze of roots and slippery rocks and, truth be told, I am lost in this vast woodland whose name, in part, translates as “Sea of Trees.”
In 1975 George and Kathy Lutz purchased their dream home for $80,000. The family decided to settle down in the home despite the tragedy that occurred within the walls.
In 1974 Ronald “Butch” DeFeo slaughtered his family with a high-powered rifle. He killed his parents, Ronald and Louise and his four siblings, Dawn, Allison, Marc, and John, saying “the voices in the house made me do it”. Butch was known to frequently get into arguments with his father. He was also known as a “problem child”, dropping out of school, drinking, doing drugs, frequently losing his temper, and even attempting to rob a car dealership owned by his grandfather.
On November 14th he burst into a local bar screaming that somebody had shot his mom and dad. When authorities arrived they found all of the family members face down, in bed, with bullets in their heads. During a 20 hour interrogation Butch finally broke down and explained how he walked through the house and shot each one of his family members. Butch’s lawyer tried to get him off on an insanity plea but the jury found him guilty and he was sentenced with six murder charges, each costing him 25 years to life in prison.
The following December George and Kathy Lutz decided that their family could handle living in the home where the murders took place and decided to purchase the DeFeo home.
The couple did get the home blessed by a priest before moving in but, according to them, it did no good. They only remained in the home for 28 days. The Lutz family said that many strange things started happening in the home; there were strange odors, lingering cold spots, doors and windows would open and close by themselves, and when the family awoke there would be strange gelatinous drops in the carpet. The most well-known occurrence was that George Lutz claimed to wake up at 3:15 A.M. almost everyday (this is said to be around the time that Butch killed his family). So, after only living in the home for only 28 days, the Lutz family fled, leaving everything behind. They said that after they left everything returned to normal.
After leaving the Lutzes moved to California, and with the help up Jay Anson, they published a book detailing what happened to them while living in the home: The Amityville Horror: A True Story was released in in 1976 and ended up selling over 6 million copies. Over the years many people have criticized the Lutzes story. George Lutz has admitted that some of the scenes were exaggerated but everything is based on events that had actually happened.
A few years later a psychic medium visited the house and claimed to talk to a Native American chief who was angry because the home was built on top of a sacred burial ground. According to the medium the chief would not be content until the house was burned down and the land was empty once again.However, the Montauket tribe has denied that there was ever a burial ground in Amityville.
To this day nobody knows what really happened during the 28 days that the Lutzes lived in their home. You can decide whether or not you believe them. (X)(X)

New Pope is the best Pope. He doesn’t hate on everyone who doesn’t conform to his faith. He lets tiny children sit in his big official chair. He poses for selfies. He is a good Pope and I hope he is with us for a long time.
this is actually significant because that isn’t just “the official chair.”

The Holy See is considered the sovereign of Vatican City. No, seriously.
Every other pope has used a throne for the Holy See. Francis replaced the ornate object with THE SAME CHAIR THAT EVERY OTHER LEADER WHO VISITS THE VATICAN USES. This was an action that created a considerable stir, as one might imagine. It was a significant remark, metaphorically, putting the pope at the same level as every other world leader. No greater a man than his peers.
And after all of that, he sees a little kid run past him and lets him sit in the freaking Holy See.
