So I'm usually not much of a fanfic reader, but @jacepens wrote an absolutely FANTASTIC LAL one that goes so hard and I highly recommend it (especially if the concept of vampire Mad Dog interests you at all :D)

i’ve been a fan of your washette fics since 2020 and i’m just wondering, are you going to publish the last chapter of „his weakness” someday? no worries if not though, i know how sometimes you just fall out of a fandom and never go back.

Hey! First off, thank you so much for the kind words!! <3

For His Weakness…I’m probably not going to finish the fourth chapter, sorry:( Honestly part of the problem is that originally chapter 4 was going to focus on “the first time”, but then chapter 3 took care of that. I would swap my original plan for 3 with 4, but it wouldn’t be a good final chapter if that makes sense. I don’t like to say never, (the other day I surprised myself by starting to draft up a washette fic??? No promises on that though haha), but for this one it is pretty unlikely. If it makes you feel better, chapter 3 could very easily work as the final chapter. (And if you’re curious I had originally planned on chapter 3 being a Lafayette initiating their um “unique” encounters)

But thanks again! If you’re truly desperate for more I wouldn’t mind posting the very beginning of the original chapter 3, but it would just be some setup. I hope you have a nice one too!:)

A Simple Trick for Fic Writers

Hey, if you're a fic writer and a character speaks in a different language, you don't just have to add the translation in the notes. Use the following HTML coding to add 'text on hover' to the word(s). If the reader is on a computer they can hover over the text to see the translation.

<div title="This is the text in the box!">This is the text that shows in your fic!</div>

Here are some examples from a fic on my AO3.

This coding here <div title="a fool, idiot (lit. emptyhead)">Eyn utreekov</div> will show this on hover.

This next example shows that you can add a lot of text. The formatting is the same as above.

PS: When doing this, there may be spacing issues, but you can edit the text through AO3's html or rich text editor. From there you can add italics (like I did), bold, etc, and fix any weird spacing issues. Just be careful not to delete the coding that you worked so hard on 😂

Please please please do both!!! As it says, hovertext only works if you’re reading the fic online. For those of us who have to (or want to) download to read offline, this method doesn’t work—providing necessary translations in the chapter endnotes is important. I’m also uncertain how this works with accessibility software, so keep that in mind too.

This is a wonderful point that I did not include in my initial post.

Here's an addition of how to add a footer that brings you to the end notes and then has another link to bring you back to the spot that you were reading (this works when downloaded as a PDF or EPUB).

This goes in the work HTML; <a href="#definition1" name="definition">¹</a>

This goes in the Author Endnote (or wherever you want it really); <a name="definition1"></a>1. Translation text here <a href="#definition">Back</a>

It will look like this on AO3. And when you press the superscript, you will be taken to the endnotes. At the endnotes, there will be a link that takes you back to the exact place of the superscript.

Above is an example from a guide I made yesterday after the engagement on this post and reblogs such as the one I'm responding to. It goes into alternative HTML and some other basics.

Also, in regards to accessibility. Screen readers will only read what is present on the screen, so the hover over text will not be read. I'd highly recommend using footers or just making sure to have your definitions in your author notes or story in alternative ways.

Footers are also more mobile/tablet friendly since they do not have cursors to hover with. But footers can be tapped and used :D

Honestly using a combination of all of these can be useful. Or you can just keep it simple. I love the aspect of customization and creating unique reading experiences. This is something that AO3 truly does allow for, which is awesome!

And soon any plans of his are further destroyed by the new threat looming over the town of Success. A threat backed by powers that may prove too strong for the inhabitants to fight without the help of The Sundown Kid and Mad Dog both changed by forces greater than them.

New chapter!! Yay!!:) I mention it in the fic, but I also re-edited the previous chapter to just be a better read overall and fix some out-of-character things. This chapter is Mad Dog only haha, sorry Sundown, but we get lots of info about vampires;) 

Also, the next chapter I have planned is probaby my favorite in the whole fic, so I know I’m looking forward to it.

Thinking about The Sundown Kid and Mad Dog I find it interesting that within his chapter, Mad Dog is the one who is most clinging to maintaining their rivalry. Sundown doesn’t fight it, but he seems more open to change than Mad Dog when he spares him.

So it’s interesting that only after Sundown goes through the life-altering journey with Odio and co, does he and Mad Dog’s relationship change into a partnership. Like, I understand that Sundown needed a change of heart but it makes me think that something must have happened to Mad Dog while Sundown was gone. Or Sundown must have done or said something to change Mad Dog’s mind but I struggle to imagine what could change his mind besides definitely not missing Sundown while he was gone.

Going through my doc full of fic ideas about The Sundown Kid/Mad Dog is so fun because it’s a mix of: omg I started to write this fic and I really need to finish it and I wrote this??! When??

Ultimately I love those two gay cowboys so so so much, and I miss them everyday. That’s all this post is about.

I feel so silly being afraid to write again…I feel like I’m standing at the edge of the ocean waiting for the waves to stop crashing and bubbling at my ankles. I’ve been treading water like I’m scared of the waves suddenly rising above my head and dragging me out to the center of the ocean. I’m paralyzed at the shore, not out of fear, but out of imaginary eyes that stare at my immovable toes wondering how long will it take for me to dive back in the water.
