The fire of reason burned down the temple of faith!
The Consul & the Ousters - The Fall of Hyperion
Sacrifice and the agreement to sacrifice had written human history in blood.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Empathy and love were inseparable and inexplicable.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
I'm at a loss for words to describe the magnificence of the story of Hyperion. It's huge, mythic and epic in every sense of those words. Empires reaching across light-years, messengers from the future, warriors from the past, all-knowing AI, alternate timelines, evolved factions of human beings, portals connecting worlds that are light-years apart, you name it Hyperion has it, in fact nailed it. By the end, I was like "what the bloody black hole was that?!!" And still, I'm only halfway through the saga. Can't wait for Endymion!!❣️
Love was as hardwired into the structure of the universe as gravity and matter/antimatter.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
If God evolved, and Sol was sure that God must, then that evolution was toward empathy-toward a shared sense of suffering rather than power and dominion.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Religion and ethics were not always-or even frequently-mutually compatible. The demands of religious absolutism or fundamentalism or rampaging relativism often reflected the worst aspects of contemporary culture or prejudices rather than a system which both man and God could live under with a sense of real justice.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
"Sometimes," said General Morpurgo, taking her hand, "dreams are all that separate us from the machines."
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
The Great Change is when humankind accepts its role as part of the natural order of the universe instead of its role as a cancer.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
The Shrike vs Fedmahn Kassad - The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
"Who can taste chaos and come back sane?"
"To explain the crimson ribbon of life is to rupture it."
"To grab life is to lose it,"
"And to lose it means to gain it!"
"Above the sick fingers of time looms a cosmic being."
"A being of immense power, a being who created itself by creating mankind!"
"Man is its builder but it is the master of man."
"Man's obsession for perfection created the 'perfect'."
"But the 'perfect' saw man as an imperfection."
"Hence, the blade fell upon man!!"
- A God from the Future by Joel Anto Johnson
Are we so sure that Christ always knew what to do next? He knew what had to be done. It is not always the same as knowing what to do.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Great powers may be shaping the general turn of events, but human personalities still determine their own fate.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Brawne Lamia & Johnny Meeting Ummon - The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Losing our ignorance can be dangerous because our ignorance is a shield.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
When you meet a swordsman, meet him with a sword. Do not offer a poem to anyone but a poet.
The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
