Joshua’s crew was making quick work of the ship— honestly, it was kind of disappointing. He’d hoped for an actual challenge. Hopefully there would be something on the ship to make it worth it. The young captain swung and twirled his blades, flourishing every attack. Cocky, yes, but that was just who he was. He hummed a light tune as swords clashed and people shouted. It wasn’t long before they’d taken the ship. He barked an order to his crew, telling them to secure it and take stock of all on board.
He noticed a couple of crewmen struggling with a door, working the shoulder it open. Someone must be in there, doors didn’t barricade themselves, after all. As soon as it was open enough, he slipped through with another man, his blade drawn. It was a woman’s room. Quietly, he sheathed the blade, motioning for the other man to leave him be. He would probably fair better dealing with the girl on his own.
The door shut quietly and he set about lighting candles to brighten the room, letting him see every corner. He was calm, gentle even. “You know, you can come out. I’m not going to harm you.” Probably not a reassurance from a pirate. “My name is Joshua.” He didn’t mentioning being captain, nor did he look at all like one.
Jacklyn heard someone shoving against the door, and the noise only made her shuffle herself further into her hiding spot. She shivered at the thought of being captured and what they might do to her. She tried to slow her breathing, so when they got in there it wouldn’t be a dead giveaway of where she was. She wished she had grabbed something to help defend herself, but all she had was her untrained hands and feet.
When they finally got the door open, she felt petrified with fear. It was when candles were being lit that she saw the nice leather boots of the man that would eventually find her. His voice was calming enough that if she hadn’t known better then maybe she would have came out right then, but she knew she was dealing with a pirate. She kept quiet, even shaking her head to resist the urge to introduce herself. When she shook her head, it made her bonk her skull on the bottom of the bed, making a loud thud noise.
Shit, he would now know exactly where she was hiding. She immediately shifted so her feet where directed to the entrance to her hiding spot. Her feet were bare, but it would shock whoever it was to get a good kick to the face once he peered down to look.
