Leaning forward, Jacob took a bite from her ice cream, a smug grin taking to his lips as he swallowed and wiped at his mouth with the back of his hand. âTell you what?â He teased once again, before kissing her temple gently, his hand falling lower to her waist. âI love you,â...
Once the words left her lips, his heart began to race, and he immediately freed his hands. He wasn't even sure why he needed to hear it so badly. Perhaps because like her, he had never heard it like this. At least not since his mother was killed, and certainly never in this context. And he loved Jade; probably even more than he was aware. It was reflected in all of his actions since he had met her, in his desperate need to protect her from all of the evils in the world, and previously from her own self destruction. He lifted his right hand up, allowing his pointer and index finger to rest gently at her neck, feeling for her pulse. "And she's still alive and well."
