Lillith nodded and started walking, keeping her eyes on Jacob. Darla followed closely, continually glancing at him as well.
Jacob snickered to himself, hoping that this was Kady's daughter like his gut told him, if not, oh well. The kid got free ice cream. If so...well...
"My doggy." She bent down to pick up the whistle she’d dropped. Then, she blew it five times in a row quickly. Instantly Darla came running. She stopped in her tracks upon seeing the man, a light growl passing as she stared at him but, after a decisive sniff, she made no other noises, just moved close to Lillith. Lillith patted her head softly. "Darla, this is Jacob. We’re getting ice cream."
"Okay." he started, watching Lillith as she picked up the whistled and blew it. Then, out of nowhere, a rather large looking dog came trotting over towards them, growling at him. "Nice..." he mused, eyeing it suspiciously. "Well--" he turned and started walking down the street, glancing behind him, "--let's go find us some ice cream."
She narrowed her eyes at him suspiciously. “… Darla comes, too.”
He quirked a brow. "Alright. Who's Darla?"
"I’m very sure."
"Well if you're sure. I think I'm in the mood for ice cream. Yes, yes." He turned back to look down at her suddenly. "Care you join me?"
"I’ll be fine."
"Are you sure? You're so...tiny."
"I’m not alone. I’m never alone." She lifted her chin. "And my mommy’s location is none of your business."
"Hmmm..." He lifted a hand, tapping his chin. "Well shouldn't she be watching you? You could get kidnapped."
"Yes I am, thank you."
"But should you really be out here all alone? Where's your mother?"
"Four." She crossed her arms, still staring.
Jacob nodded his head, canting it to the side. "You're very smart for a four year old."
She nodded softly, stepping closer very carefully. Then, she sniffed lightly, looking him over before stepping back again. “Yea…”
Her furrow his eyebrows at her as she stepped forward and..sniffed him. Interesting. "How old are you?"
She stared for another moment longer, then nodded softly. Her voice came out quietly, carefully. “Yes. I am Lillith.”
He smiled at her. "Lillith. Nice to meet you. I'm Jacob."
She didn’t respond, just stared. It didn’t take her long to figure out that this man was different. Something in his eyes, the way he held himself, and the fact that he smelled… human. Was human. All dead giveaways that this man wasn’t her father; or, if he was, he was a poorer version at most. That didn’t make her any less cautious, though, staying on guard as she watched. His face didn’t help anything.
He quirked an eyebrow at the girl, watching her with interest as they both surveyed the other. She was rather peculiar and he was going to have a little fun with this. "Can you not speak?" he asked, shaking his head slightly in a questioning manner.
She jumped at the sound of his voice, instantly on guard. The whistle fell from her lips as she all but jumped away from him, looking up at him with wide eyes.
He cocked his head to the side observing her. "What's your name?"
"Good. I h-hope you get eaten by a vampire." She muttered huffily.
"Vampires? Oh how fun."
Again, she stayed silent, taking another sharp turn.
He shook his head again and turned down the street as she did. "Hmm...this is a nice town. Maybe I'll stay for a while."
She didn’t respond.
"No response? I thought not."
"Well y-you shouldn’t have t-touched me. I don’t l-like being touched."
"Im failing to see your point." He canted his head to the side. "Please explain why I should care that you don't like being touched."
