“EFFECTIVE and brutal,” Jade commented calmly with a nod of approval. She gave the other girl a small smile and held out her hand. “I didn’t introduce myself before, my name is Jade Grayson; Code name Kestrel.”
“I never said I wasn’t able to disclose information, but I never said I would,” Jade replied evenly. She felt strange. The only time she felt like this was when she was dealing with the LeBeau kids, especially Olivier who had hypnotic charm. It made her more wary of him. “Quite frankly, you haven’t even given me any reason to disclose anything, let alone upcoming plans by the program.”
“MY father is an instructor here. I have two brothers on this island, Jasper and Jack. Jack is on a mission and Jasper isn’t the friendly sort, more likely you met my father,” Jade responded. “Pleasure to meet you, Gabriella and it is of no trouble to me to help you. It’s what we are here for.”
“OBVIOUSLY not,” Jade drawled, listening him speak while she brushed her fingers against the binding of her book. “It’s not the point of the conversation but that doesn’t mean it’s not an correct assumption. I wasn’t dismissing you. I was responding to your statement.”
JADE reared back and glared at her. For the first time in a long time, Jade felt her own magical energy crackling around her fingers without her conscious consent. “Forgive me if it was advertised to the majority of the population as a volunteer program,” she snapped back. “But you should feel lucky you’re here and not rotting away in Belle Reve.”
“SO you’re a necromancer?” Jade rose her eyebrows at her. She hadn’t met many necromancers in her day, but she knew that it was difficult magic to accomplish. This girl was someone she needed to watch out for. It wasn’t often Jade felt like she was overshadowed or challenged, but this girl certainly had the potential to be a rival. “That’s tough work. Most of my magical studies are focused on energy construction and spatial work.”
Hands on her hips, Alana considered the target in front of her. She let one hand fall, flexing her fingers as she pulled an orb of water from her water bottle. “Would it be cheating if I hit the bullseye with water daggers? Come on, that so counts for out of the box thinking.”
“IF I am allowed to use my energy daggers, then you certainly can use your water daggers,” Jade replied as dark energy danced around her fingers before forming into a small dagger. With a flick of her wrist, she tossed it at the dummy and watched as it hit the dummy between the eyes, the construct flickering for a moment before fading.
“I really hope that training is a worthy challenge. What is the sense of learning under the Earth`s mightiest heroes if the only tasks we will have to do is face dolls and ridiculously simple technological scenarios?” Halden observed with mischief clear on his expression “Perhaps we should start causing more noise. To see if in that way we can get this boring place to start getting serious.” he added with a casual gesture, his aura subtly making the words more compelling.
JADE arched an eyebrow at his eyebrows and snapped her book shut as she turned to address him. She had never been one to fall to the beat of another's drum, especially if she found the drum in particular to be idiotic.
"As someone who has somewhat of an idea of what the instructors have in mind, you don't need to worry about boring. Especially if you're training under my father," she replied calmly, though there was a hint of irritation in her gaze. Guys like these always thought they were hot shots until the real training started and they were usually the ones who dropped like flies.
JADE scowled. It wasn’t the first time she had been called that. She didn’t seen the point in false pleasantries. “I wish I could say so as well, but you seem to have the gentility and subtleness of sandpaper,” she replied. “The name is Jade Grayson and I never said to trust them, I just said that with the budgets these organizations have alongside UN backing, lavishness is to be expected.”
“PLEASURE to meet you, Mareena,” Jade returned politely. “My name is Jade. And perhaps, calling a mechanic might be more of better option than just scraping it entirely. It might be less money than buying a new one. How old is this machine? Perhaps you have a coverage plan that you’ve forgotten. Manufacturers generally give free maintenance on such devices for 90 days after purchase.”
IT’S been awhile since Jade has been asked to consult on a case. When she was younger, her father would sometimes bounce ideas and theories about his own detective work off of her, saying it helped to see things from a different perspective. Before she accidentally blow up a building at Manhattan University, she had been a psychology student and she missed it.
“I would definitely be willing to tell you more, but you look like you’re about to collapse,” Jade responded. Using her powers, she pulled out her comfy computer chair and placed it next to Gaby. “Sit and we will talk. I think we should start with names, my name is Jade. Jade Grayson.”
"I'VE known Payton since I was young because our fathers are brothers. I do not think Payton is a bad person. He's just a bit...much at times. He and my sister are a recipe for disaster when they are together. However, I am glad to have met you, Sebastian. You seem more of a kindred spirit than most I've met," Jade responded with a ghost of a smile. "If you ever need shelter from the chaos of our siblings, you are always welcome to sit with me."
Athena was in the shooting range, on her last round of dummies. As the empty clip hit the ground, she quickly replaced it with a fresh clip. The sound of another person’s voice made her turn suddenly around, the gun resting against her thigh, back straightening as she looked at them, Athena was currently trying to make herself more at ease than she really was. “If you’re trying to be stealthy it’s not working.” She mumbled, the barrel of the gun tapping against her thigh, thankfully the safety was on. “Do you need something?”
“NOT really,” Jade responded with a shrug, ignoring the comment about her stealth. She didn’t have the grace of her siblings and it was something that always rubbed her raw. “I was just poking around and looking at everything, but I can’t say that I’ve found anything that’s really caught my attention.”
Moving the last of his shit into the house was more of a chore than he was prepared for. Banner wasn’t his first choice in houses, but he figured he could make do. With the last bag over his shoulder, he juggled small orbs of plasma as he walked and looked around
“Hmm, well, I’ll be damned, it’s a pretty swanky place they got here…” he trailed off as he walked.
JADE paused from her reading and looked down from her perch in a nearby tree and snorted. This guy was a showboater; she could tell that for sure. “Well, what did you expect from a joint SHEILD-ARGUS budget,” she asked wryly.
Lucky didn’t trust A.R.G.U.S. much, or at at all really. They’d never given her a reason to, if anything that had taken away any reason for to trust them when they decided she was bound rehabilitation. She had been six and it had been an accident. The idea of being anywhere where A.R.G.U.S. had any say over what she did didn’t sit well in her stomach.
“ Nice to know at least some A.R.G.U.S. training facilities don’t look and feel like a prison. ”
JADE looked up from her bed when she heard the other speak. “Well, this is a volunteer program, did you think that they would treat volunteers like prisoners?” She asked, snapping her book shut and looking at the other girl; waiting for an answer.
JADE frowned and straightened up in her bed, her brows furrowed in puzzlement. The detective in her was screaming at her that this was more than a case of simple sleep walking. No. This was something more serious. “Three days of memory lost isn’t typical for sleepwalking,” Jade responded. “It sounds almost like a case of split personality disorder to be honest. I have read a few cases of where when one personality becomes dormant, another takes over and the other has no memory of it.”
“Come in.” Mareena called out as she heard a knock on her door. “I’m over here!” She calls out again, knowing she can’t be seen as she’s currently on the ground staring at the pair of pliers. There is a bit of dirt smudged on her face from cleaning the air conditioner and just being on the ground; it’s clear she’s a bit frustrated. “I can’t seem to cool down my room. I’ve cleaned the whole thing and now i’m taking it apart.” She said simply, “Would you be interested in helping me?”
"I don't think I'm qualified to help you with any mechanical issue, but if you need to move anything around or install something new, I might be able to help. I'm pretty good with levitation magic," Jade replied with a small casual shrug.
