I think, since dean and mary look almost identical, john would still want deanna to look feminine to resemble mary. After he passes, deanna still holds onto this strong, soldier-like, yet motherly identity he’s molded for her, like in canon

that last part,,, they were really just two kids saving eachother and the world when it didn’t want to be saved
