naim did not come from a household that was physically affectionate. in the previous places he lived, he was so concerned about making his friends uncomfortable that they never hugged or slept in the same bed either. god forbid changing in front of eachother.
so when he and ryan got together, he really had to get used to the casual touches from ryan. ryanâs love language has always been physical touch, and he finds a lot of comfort through that. he loves having a hand on naim, bringing him comfort and feeding his possessive nature that has only grown since they ran away.
naim likes when ryan touches him like this, but hesitates initiating. he gets in his head saying that he is making ryan uncomfortable or that his draw to feel ryan casually is in some way predatory. one day, while ryan is making them dinner, naim puts a hand on his waist. ryan leans in and kisses him on the head, a seal of approval. naim was more free with his touches after that day.
Can't stop thinking about the "do you think he can make it stop" "make what stop" exchange between ryan and hunter. Hunter couldn't even leave space for an "it" to exist! He was giggling and smirking and playing it off like he wasn't scared of the ritual...but he couldn't even exist in the space with ryan where there WAS something about them to cure or punish. He might be kneeling on the floor with ryan but he's not WITH ryan. Ryan is alone then the same way hunter is when he dies
(moving on from my rant about this fandom being full of doom and despair)
so you're telling me that from ryan whelan's pov, from the beginning of the movie up to sometime before the funeral scene, he's been living in a a secretive, fucked up version of a romance movie where the person he's in a romance with isn't even there and he has no idea? he's spending all this time with the person he wants the most, and at first it is actually him, but then the ritual happens and it starts to be the entity and he's under the impression that it's still naim. they've been hanging out, going on dates to the photobooth and who knows what else, "naim" has been at his house what is implied to be multiple times ("stop coming to my house") and he only fully realizes what's actually been happening at the funeral when he sees the same thing happen to naim, are you kidding me? i'm sick. release the ryan pov version right now, where is it. THE ONLY TIME NAIM HAS BEEN INSIDE RYAN'S HOUSE AND IT WASN'T EVEN ACTUALLY NAIM I HATE IT HERE, wdym the only time ryan was aware of naim being there it was the entity and all the other times naim was there it was from a distance and ryan had no idea
like, from his pov he sees this new boy in town and falls for him, ignores him at school at first but eventually they hang out together, exploring the outskirts of town and this abandoned mill, he tries to impress him and it kind of works, they smoke together and play wrestle, naim tells him these stories about his life and they start to bond. then somehow ryan's parents find out about his sexuality and take him to this 'deliverance healer' and he's forced to go to this ritual. he doesn't think it'll work and laughs about it with hunter, and even after convulsing and vomiting on the floor he basically says fuck the town and the deliverance healer, i dont care about whatever that was, i'm still going to see "naim" and you wont keep me away from him with your rituals or whatever else.
like, he was bruised on his arm when naim first sees him after the ritual, and ryan warns him that arlene is gonna see them, meaning he's already seen entity naim by that point and gotten hurt by him, and his only worry is that that naim's mom will see them and send him to the healer next. he's not worried about getting hurt by an entity, he's just a boy with a crush and he's trying to protect him from being outed to his mom and the town, trying to protect what's most near and dear to him, trying to preserve their romance that's secret and only theirs to know about omg loverboy ryan you'll always be famous GIMME THE RYAN CUT
i dislike the whole âhorror is so backâ narrative people are throwing around recently with obsession and backrooms. both are great movies, but horror was also so back with the long walk. and sinners. and the substance. and nosferatu. and literally anything directed by jordan peele. horror as a genre will always have its flops. but there will always be those few that revive the hype.
obsessed with everything about this convo. "I know you do, Naim," tired and a little bit bitter because that shit hole naim hates so much is the place ryan grew up. yeah it's not much but he has the freedom to go where he pleases, and knows the streets like the back of his hand. the owner of the corner store gives him freebies for a gutter clean every few months, and mrs sutcliffe three doors down bakes him the best chocolate biccies in the whole damn state just because she's lovely. people greet him by name, and he greets them by theirs. if you need a job done there's always someone to ask, and always pocket money to be made. he was treated well, before all this, by the people and the place. if not for the deliverence healer and demonic entities, ryan probably would've stayed there. worked for his dad, got a place of his own. it's no paradise for a young gay man regardless but ryan whelan is country through and through. and knowing this, all this convo does is make the final scene of him at the bus stop, alone and terrified, even more gutwrenching. he talked naim out of every time he suggested leaving, but whatever happened to ryan that night with the entity was bad enough that he packed a bag to leave all he's ever known without looking back.

The next morning started like any other except YoungMi woke up on the couch. She woke up a bit dazed from the rays of sunlight coming in through the slit in her satin curtains. It didn't take her long to notice a weight pushing on her hip. Looking over her shoulder to find Yeonjun resting his head on her hip. No wonder her lower body felt so much warmer than usual, even under the blanket she had over her.
Speaking of which, the blanket was a new development from when she had fallen asleep to this morning. The fox hybrid sleeping at her feet must have been the culprit. Regardless of how the blanket got there, she had personal matters to attend to. She reluctantly moved from her spot on the couch to get up.Â
YoungMi shifted her hips from under Yeonjunâs head which caused the fox to stir a bit in his sleep. She moved to grab the pillow she was laying on, scooted her hip from under his head, replacing it with a pillow as she slipped out from the couch. Yeonjun stirred again, so YoungMi petted his head to keep him from waking up all the way.
He relaxed at her touch, snuggling back into the covers, shielding his eyes from the soft rays of sunshine coming in. His ears were still emerging from the blanketâs folds which made YoungMi sigh at his sleeping form. The fox looked adorable in that state of tranquility, she hoped to see it many more times. She gave him one more glance before heading into her studio.
Now that she knew Yeonjun planned on staying for a little bit, she felt as though it would be best to better educate herself on tending to the needs of a hybrid. She figured it wasn't too different from living with a roommate. There were some instinctual differences from humans and hybrids that did create some differences from the average roommate experience. She looked over different fox species and came to the conclusion that Yeonjun was in fact a fennec fox hybrid to be specific. From her research she conducted, there weren't many differences between fennec fox hybrids versus the more common fox hybrids besides temperament.Â
A wave of hunger stopped her from her research, so she decided to take a break and make something to eat. She tries her best to not be loud considering Yeonjun was still sleeping on the couch and she was aware of how sensitive a hybridâs hearing can be. Her breakfast was simple, cream cheese on a bagel with a side of fruit. She ate in peace, the fox on her couch still not waking up.
She had nothing else to do besides work which she was already caught up on. She couldnât finish her work until she got feedback from her clients which was going to take at least a couple of days. She did want to take Yeonjun to the DHR âDepartment of Hybrid Registrationâ to officially get him registered so she can get him Independence Papers when the time comes.Â
The adoption process has changed a lot over the past few years ever since there was a huge underground market of hybrid buyers that were discovered for running this fraud scheme. They would go to adoption centers and pose as people eager to adopt a new hybrid as a pet, once taken out of the center, they would offer the hybrid freedom for a ridiculous amount of money which most hybrids in these adoption centers did not have so theyâd get pushed into either working in black market deals, working in host clubs, and in the worst of cases, working in brothels.Â
After these underground businesses got busted, the process for hybrids to gain their independence takes a lot longer to prove that the person adopting a hybrid is just trying to make a profit.Â
That being said, YoungMi decided to get all the documents she needed together; the documents from the vet, her own personal identification cards, Yeonjunâs temporary ownership papers, and her own proof of employment.Â
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
A few hours later, Yeonjun finally stirred out of his sleep. He stretched his arms and legs fully across the couch, a long yawn drawing out from him. He shook off the last remnants of sleep from his body, getting his muscles to wake up. He looked around and couldnât see YoungMi. He stopped for a moment to listen for any signs of her. He could hear the clicking of her keyboard and the faint sound of music coming from her studio. Even though YoungMiâs studio was soundproof to the average person, he could still hear some of the noises from her office thanks to his heightened senses.Â
He moved the cover off his body and walked over to YoungMiâs studio, he gave a small knock waiting to be allowed in. He heard a faint âcome inâ and slowly opened the door. The room was dimly lit like usual, purple artificial lighting illuminating the surfaces in the room. The scent of mahogany wafting into the hallway from the doorway.
YoungMi turned in her seat, greeting the fox with a soft smile.Â
âGood morning, sleepy head. You sleep ok?â She asked with a light chuckle.
Yeonjun nodded, muttering a good morning as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.Â
âThanks for covering me up last night. I didnât even realize I had fallen asleep.â She thanked him as she turned to her computer to save her work and start shutting everything off.
âNo issue,â He muttered again, finding sudden interest in the paint of the doorframe.
âI wasnât sure what you wanted to eat for breakfast so I didnât make anything for you yet. Did you want a yogurt bowl or something?â She asked, tidying up her work desk before standing up and stretching her arms over her head.Â
âYogurtâs fine with me,â He said, moving out of the doorframe. YoungMi made her way to the kitchen, prompting Yeonjun to follow behind her. He opted to lean on the counterside closest to the kitchen table to watch as she prepared his breakfast. It was fascinating how she moved with such calm and grace yet finished preparing his breakfast so quickly.
In the time that he ate his breakfast, YoungMi disappeared into her room. Her form emerged a few minutes later in fresh, going-out clothes. She sat with him at the table with a drink of water.Â
âI laid out some clothes for you on the bed so we can finalize those adoption papers. You can take your time to eat, I was just letting you know.â She informed him, going to play on her phone while he finished eating. Yeonjun simply nodded, enjoying the rest of his bowl.
When he was finished eating, he got dressed in the clothes that she set out for him. After some light self-grooming, he was ready to go. YoungMi slipped on some shoes, waiting as Yeonjun did the same and they were off to the DHR.
The car ride there was silent. A comfortable silence as YoungMi played some music. Not too loud in case the fox wanted to speak but not too quiet where there were only sounds of the road to occupy the space between them. She did notice which songs caused his ears to twitch the most, making mental notes of what his music taste was like.Â
At the DHR, they waited for their number to get called for a few hours. YoungMi was mostly on her phone while Yeonjun transitioned between people watching, looking at whatever cartoons were playing on the TVs, or glancing over to whatever short form videos YoungMi was scrolling through on her phone. He made it a point to look away if she seemed to be messaging someone or doing something work related.Â
âNumber 92 to office 4,â One of the workers called on the intercom.Â
YoungMi got up, walking towards the office, then gestured for Yeonjun to follow along. There was only one chair in front of the desk, the only other seat in the corner. Yeonjun sat in the corner chair while YoungMi took in front of the DHR worker.
âSo what brings you in today maâam?â The worker asked as she began to type on her keyboard.
âI wanted to get adoption papers for Yeonjun here.â YoungMi responded, a palm directed towards the fox in the corner.Â
The woman nodded, not looking away from the monitor as she typed.
âOkay, I just need identification and proof of purchase or rescue,â She instructed.Â
YoungMi handed over the necessary documents which the worker carefully scanned over.
âI see that there isnât a name registered here on the temporary ownership papers. What name did you want to give him?â The woman asks, looking back to her computer screen.â
âYeonjun,â YoungMi answered, âthe name I just used for him,â she added matter of factly.
âWhat a lovely choice, Hwang Yeonjun. It goes well with your last name-âÂ
YoungMi ignores the last part of the workerâs sentence, âOh, I didnât choose his name,â She corrected the worker. She then turns to the hybrid, âYeonjun-ah, whatâs your last name?â
Yeonjun snapped out of his thoughts when YoungMi asked him the question. He hasnât really been paying attention as he wasn't expecting being addressed at all during this process.
âOh, uh, Choi,â He answers, surprise present in his features.
YoungMi mouths a small thank you before turning back to the worker.
âChoi Yeonjun, not Hwang,â YoungMi restated firmly.
The worker gave YoungMi a reluctant look as she corrected the name in the system before asking more questions to complete the registration for the hybrid.Â
Yeonjun was briefly escorted into the hallway so he could have his picture put in the adoption registry along with his new Identification card.
âDid you want to get your furry friend chipped while heâs here?â The worker asked.
YoungMi shook her head, âI donât think that would be necessary.â
âAre you sure? I can tell he isnât your run of the mill fox hybrid. Ones like him are fairly sought after,â The worker said in a tone that felt more like convincing than genuine concern.
âI appreciate it but Iâm sure. Heâs not some kind of prized possession. I just want to give him a home. Thatâs what he needs most.â YoungMi responded assertively.Â
The worker seemed to catch the message, not pressing the matter any further. Yeonjun shortly returned to the room after, the last touches for registration being finalized.Â
âAlright. Here are the forms along with a copy,â She paused to place them in a large manila envelope, âAnd in this smaller envelope is an official identification card for your fur friend, here.â
YoungMi accepted the envelopes from the worker, thanked her for her time before turning to Yeonjun. She let him know they were ready to go, letting him out the door first. He nodded, walking them out of the office, ears flicking in YoungMiâs direction to make sure she was walking near him.
Once in the car, she handed the envelopes to him.
âDid you want to hold onto your ID or did you want me to keep it for you?â She asked.
The fox thought about it for a moment. âYou can hold onto it for now. Iâm still getting used to having stuff again.â He explained, his eyes locked onto the envelopes intently, as if they would vanish into thin air if he looked away from them for even a moment.
The ride back to the apartment was similar to the ride out, soft music to occupy the space. YoungMi stole a few glances as she heard a faint hum of a few choruses come from the fox hybrid in the passenger seat.
In the apartment, they get settled back in. YoungMi put his adoption registry papers in the same safe place she keeps her own important papers --keeps things simple-- and placed his ID card in her wallet along with her own cards.Â
YoungMi walked out of the room to find Yeonjun already sitting on the couch watching TV. She smiled to herself, seeing him curled up in his unassigned corner of the couch.Â
âWant some lunch?â She asked.
He nodded after a brief moment of hesitation. She looked at the options in her fridge but nothing quite jumped out to her. She walked over to her pantry, nothing in there really speaking to her either. She would have stopped somewhere if she had felt hungry while still out on the road but she was already comfortable in the apartment.
âEverything feels kinda same-y. Do you mind if I get something delivered?â She asked out into the open as she closed the pantry door, already pulling up a food delivery app on her phone.
âSounds fine,â She heard him say over the sound of the television.
âHow does Mexican food sound?â She asked.
âSounds fine,â He said once again.
YoungMi wasnât sure if he actually cared that much or didnât want to upset her if he objected. Maybe he wasnât used to having such agency. What if he was hurt into complying when offered a false sense of choice?Â
âJeez, thatâs so depressing. Happier thoughts YoungMi,â she told herself, shaking the speculation from her head.
She ordered herself some food. A classic loaded burrito with all her favorite toppings.Â
âDid you have anything specific you wanted to order?â She asked Yeonjun, walking over to where he was on the couch. She was about to hand him her phone before he answered.Â
âIâll just have whatever you get,â
She was going to double check and make sure he didnât want another option but considering how heâd been answering so far, she doubted heâd ask for anything different at this point. She just nodded, finalizing the order while she sat on the couch.Â
They watched some more super sentai in a comfortable silence. A silence very similar to the one they shared in the car earlier today. They laughed at the silly comedic beats; YoungMi laughed while Yeonjun more so let out light chuckles, the light from the TV illuminating his canines.Â
A soft fondness washed over her. Their silent time together had already started to feel second nature. Before long, there was a knock on the door, the sound seemed to startle the fox hybrid if the way his head snapped to the door was any indication. His ears that were in a relaxed position quickly straightened high above his head, clearly an attempt to scope out some sign of danger. The buzz from YoungMiâs phone also caused his gaze to snap in the direction of the noise. It was a confirmation notification of the delivery but the sudden break of silence seemed to put Yeonjun on edge.
âFoodâs here, no need to worry. Itâs a contactless delivery so they just drop the food off at the door.â YoungMi explained as she walked to the door. She looked through the peephole to make sure there wasnât still someone at the door â a measure she usually takes since she used to live alone â opening the door once she saw that it was just the food waiting for them.
She returned with the bags to the coffee table, bringing the coffee table closer after taking her seat back on the couch. She took everything out of the bag, set the goods on the table, and split all the napkins along with utensils evenly between the two.
YoungMi opened her food. She had started to unwrap her burrito from its aluminum jacket when she noticed that Yeonjun had yet to open his food. He seemed hesitant to eat but she wasnât exactly sure why.
âYou're not hungry?â She asked
He shook his head, prompting her to tilt her head in curiosity.
âI justâŠdonât want to make a mess,â He said, eyeing the set up.
âI mean, you just have to be careful. Plus if you have a spill we can just clean it up,â YoungMi shrugs, finally taking a bite. It was the exact bite she was anticipating this whole time.
Yeonjun watched how her eyes lit up in delight at the taste of her savory treat. He looked between her and his styrofoam box of food, uncertainty knitting his brows tightly. YoungMi nodded, gesturing to the box, urging him to open it. He finally moved to open it, gingerly unwrapping the foil like YoungMi did, exposing just enough for him to take a bite.
His teeth sank into the soft tortilla, still warm from the residual heat of the savory fillings. He stopped chewing for a moment to process the flavors. The look on his face made it unclear how he felt about the food but his ears told a completely different story. They initially flicked upward then relaxed, flopping at the sides of his head as if he lost control of them. The tip of his tail curled with glee at the complex flavors as he savored the bite. YoungMi could see how he fought the urge to devour the burrito as fast as possible and willed himself to savor the flavor as if heâd never be able to try it again. Amusement spread across her features as she watched, smiling as she chewed her own food.Â
They shared that same familiar, comfortable silence as they ate. The noise from the TV filled the space between them with adlibs of crumpling foil and soft chews. YoungMi took it upon herself to throw their trash away, clearing off the coffee table once they were done eating.
She settled back onto her spot on the couch with a soft grunt, feeling heavy from the vast amount digestion going on in her stomach. That heaviness traveled from her gut to her eyelids, fighting to keep them open as she watched TV with Yeonjun. After the fourth or fifth yawn, she took it upon herself to let herself get the rest that her body obviously needed.
âI think I'm going to lay down for a little bit. Care to join me?â She asks, stretching as she gets up from her spot.
Yeonjun stops for a moment, thinking about his next actions for a moment. He looks between the TV and the hallway leading to the bedroom.
âI want to watch some more. Is that okay?â He asks, his voice as hesitant as the look in his eyes.
YoungMi nods, âYeah, of course,â She makes sure she has her phone on her. âDonât hesitate to get me if you need something,â She walks off, another yawn leaving her mouth.
She didnât even realize when she had fallen asleep. She was on her phone, scrolling through socials and responding to any missed messages. Then the sound of TV started to feel more distant and the noise from her phone just became a loop of whatever short form video she was watching before the food coma took over.Â
