Morning came sooner than YoungMi could anticipate. She was used to having to wake up early on days she had projects pending. Alternatively, It was typical for her to sleep in longer on days that weren’t as busy—much like today— but she wouldn’t wake up too late into the day. Despite her lack of responsibilities today, she started waking up bright and early.
She stirred out of her sleep, trying to feel where she left the little fox last night. Reaching for the blanket, she felt an unfamiliar density under the soft felt. Her hands patted down the dense mass. Confusion filled her, drawing her further out of her half-asleep state. She finally managed to creek her eyes open, vision strained from the bright morning light that filled the room.
Once her vision cleared, she was face to face with a sleeping man and not the fox she left in her bed last night. She nearly jumped out of her own skin as she pulled back, misreading how close she was to the end of her bed. A loud thud filled the room as she impacted the floor.
“Ow!” She yelped, rubbing her shoulder.
She muttered some curses to herself as she got back up. The man was now awake, evident as all she could see was his round eyes staring at her. Large ears stood at attention, while the rest of his face tucked under the blanket she had left him in. She peered over the edge of bed to look at him. Everything was starting to add up now that she was more awake. Had it not been for the ears, YoungMi was sure she would have gone into full fight or flight. The man laying in her bed was nonchalant compared to YoungMi’s shock and chalance. There was a beat of silence between them. They looked at each other. Taking the other in.
The man's dusty blonde hair and dark tips of this hair matched the fur on his ears, in the same pattern as the fox she saved the night prior. It was safe to say that the man before her was, in fact, the small fox from last night. A smile spread on YoungMi’s lips at the realization. He must be feeling better since he finally transformed out of his animal form.
Upon second thought, she actually had no idea if that was true and made a mental note to properly research things about hybrids now that she had a new potential friend in the apartment for at least the next couple of days.
“Good morning!” She said in a soft, cheery tone. She got up from her spot on the floor, but the sudden movement seemed to put the fox hybrid on edge. His ears sat farther back as his eyes scanned her suspiciously.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. I’m just glad you’re doing better this morning,” She explained to the fox, which seemed to ease his nerves a bit. His ears relaxed slightly, but they remained close to his head in caution.
“Oh, how rude of me. I never introduced myself. I’m YoungMi,” She paused for a moment to bow, “What’s your name?”
Her smile faltered when she didn’t get a response from the other. What if he didn’t have a name? What if he didn’t know it? Could he have amnesia from the attack? Guilt settled in her chest. How could she have been so thoughtless?
“That must be touchy, sorry…Forget I even asked,” YoungMi turned around in hopes to hide her embarrassment.
“How about some breakfast?” She waited for another response in hopes that the change of subject would help.
Much to YoungMi’s dismay, there was no response. He stayed silent. The only sign of hope was when his ears twitched at the mention of food. YoungMi’s fading smile quickly returned after noticing the small movement. She basically skipped into the kitchen to make some food for the two of them.
She kept breakfast straightforward, not wanting to take too long in the kitchen. She imagined he was hungry and could make good use of the food. She decided on some rice and eggs with a side of kimchi —simple but hearty.
YoungMi called out as she served them both a bowl of food, taking a seat at her usual spot on the dining table. She had the TV on for background noise, engrossed in work emails as she ate. Considering how their first interaction had gone, she assumed he wouldn't show up right away. In the meantime, she had been catching up with her music production teams and getting updated on deadlines for the next handful of songs she had in the works.
She hadn't noticed when the fox hybrid had emerged from her room —too locked into her phone to notice his form approaching. It was only until she had finished her breakfast and turned around that she noticed him there. A high pitched hum escaped her involuntarily, causing the fox’s ears to twitch in her direction. He didn't seem too interested, keeping his attention on his food.
She placed her bowl in the sink, rinsing it off, and placing it in the dishwasher. She was going to take the other’s bowl but found that he had only eaten a bite. “Oh, did you not like it? I can make you something else if you’d like.” He held his head low, shaking his head in response. She could barely see his eyes through his bangs.
“Are you sure? I don't mind-,” He cut her off, nodding his head more vigorously now. She raised her hands in defeat and was about to walk away until she noticed a scratch across his nose bridge. She muttered a quiet ‘oh dear’ to herself before disappearing into her room, fishing out her first-aid kit from her connected bathroom. She came back out and set the box on the table.
“You have a scratch on your nose, could I patch it up for you?” She asks, gesturing to where the mark was, mirroring it on her face.
He looked at her hesitantly before nodding slowly. A small smile formed on her features as she reached into the box and grabbed what she needed. Just some alcohol wipes, ointment, and a bandage.
“It’s going to sting a little, but I’ll be quick.” She warned before wiping the alcohol pad on the small wound.
The hybrid hissed at first but tolerated the rest well. He didn’t pull away and let her help. His ears flicked with discomfort in tandem with her cleaning but that was the only sign of hurt, remaining quiet for the duration of the procedure. YoungMi placed a small dab of antibacterial ointment on her finger, then rubbed it in a thin layer on the wound. Finally, a bandage over top the bridge of his nose to cover it. Happy with her work, she let him be, thanking him for letting her help. She was washing her hands off from the ointment on her finger when the hybrid finally spoke.
“Yeonjun”
His voice was quiet but hoarse, evident that he hadn’t spoken in a long time. YoungMi looked at him with a puzzled expression.
“My name,” He spoke again.
A wide grin spread across YoungMi’s lips as she dried her hands. He finally started to take proper bites of his food. She guessed the wound was bothering him or he finally trusted that she was genuinely trying to help him, deeming her safe to eat around. She could only imagine what he had to deal with out in the wild since he seemed pretty on edge —especially if he’d been feral for weeks or even months. Such a small gesture clearly seemed to mean a lot to him.
“It’s nice to meet you, Yeonjun.” She greeted him softly.
YoungMi put away the first-aid kit and came back out of the room to sit on the couch. She switched the channel to some cartoons, watching as she heard Yeonjun quietly eating behind her. He put his bowl in the sink when he was done and moved to sit back at the chair he was eating at.
“You can sit on the couch with me,” YoungMi invited the other. His ears pointed up in surprise. He hesitated, taking slow steps towards the couch. He eventually had a seat and the other end of the couch. He sat down, taking up as little space as he could. YoungMi noticed but didn’t say anything. She didn’t want him to feel more self conscious than he was already probably feeling.
They watched together in a comfortable silence for a couple of hours. YoungMi checked on the hybrid every few minutes between commercial breaks. He didn’t seem to notice, completely encompassed by the screen in front of him. One of the last times she checked on him, he had fallen asleep. A deep fondness washed over her as she saw him. He had curled up his legs under him, head laying on the arm rest, giving himself a hug, and his tail tucked over his feet.
YoungMi stood, going back to the room and grabbing the blanket he slept with. She put it over him and let him sleep. She went into her studio room to work while he rested.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
It was nearing dinner time when the creak of her door tore her attention from her work. She had stopped earlier to make herself lunch, just a sandwich. She had made one for Yeonjun but he was out like a light and didn’t disturb his rest.
“Everything alright?” She asked, taking off her headphones, saving her work, and closing out the music program.
He nodded, avoiding eye contact. “I didn’t know where you went.” He muttered, his tone low. His lips were shaped in a pout as he kicked lightly at the carpet.
“Oh, yeah. Just getting some work done while you slept. I’m about to make dinner,” She said getting up, “I have something in the fridge for you if you want to eat while I cook. It’ll be a minute before it’s ready. Y’want it?” She asks.
He didn’t lift his gaze from his feet. He nodded his head affirmatively.
“Amazing. Wait for me at the table and I’ll serve it for you,” He hummed in acknowledgement, walking over to the dinner table. YoungMi serves up the sandwich she made him on a plate, setting it in front of him and a cup of water to drink. He mutters a small thanks before he starts eating.
In the meantime, YoungMi began to prepare dinner. Cutting up her veggies, cooking the meat, and heating up some leftovers from the previous night. Once she was finished, she served them both a plate.
They ate in silence but YoungMi’s mind was racing. It had been since she started working in her studio earlier today. She had so many questions. She was very curious as to how Yeonjun ended up out there in the woods near her complex. How long was he out there? Did he have owners before? If he did, what happened to them? She figured it was too soon to pry but she hoped he would trust her enough to answer them eventually. That is, if he was even interested in staying with her. She didn’t mind properly getting him adoption papers and letting him stay with her until he knew what he wanted to do but she felt like it was bold of her to assume that he even wanted to do that. For all she knows, he could have just been lost and may be experiencing acute amnesia or something.
He had only been here for about a day and she realized that it was actually nice having someone around. She's grown accustomed to her solitude, choosing when and where to have company on her own time but having a constant presence like Yeonjun feels nice. There was a weight to him being there but she didn't feel like it pulled her out of her own orbit. Simply existing around each other in harmony.
YoungMi pulled herself from her thoughts when she was finished eating. She looked over to see if Yeonjun was done. He seemed to be as he was just pushing around the scraps of food on his plate. She gestured a hand towards him so she could take his bowl. It took him a second for him to realize what she meant, gently handing her the bowl when he got the message. She took the plates to the sink, rinsing them out for now; cleaning them sounded like a later-YoungMi problem.
She sat with him again, her eyes a bit spacy as she thought about how to broach the subject that was clearly weighing on her.
“Yeonjun-ah,” She starts.
The fox hybrid seemed very keen on the shift in her tone, his ears twitched with discomfort.
“I currently have temporary ownership of you. It expires in a few days. It’s okay if you need some time to think about it but I just wanted to know what you have planned for yourself. I’m not kicking you out or anything. But if you have a family you need to get back to, I can help you get back to them.” She tried to choose her words carefully, wanting to let him know that she was fully understanding of whatever his previous situation before ending up in his current situation.
Yeonjun’s ears dropped a bit. He looked away, the faint tells of a sneer starting to form on his lips.
“So the hospitality was to help let me down easy?” He asked, his tone bitter in contrast to the softness of his voice.
“Excuse me?” YoungMi tilts her head.
”It’s not the first time. I get it. The warm welcome has an expiration. You don’t have to beat around the bush. I can be out of here before sunrise tomorrow.” He responded, disappointment written all over his demeanor.
“Whoa, Whoa, Whoa,” YoungMi waved her hands fervently in front of her, “That’s not what I meant in the slightest. I’m sorry if I was making you feel unwelcome. I was wondering if you were, like, lost or something. Foxes aren’t exactly common around here…I figured you have a family out there waiting for you.” She explains further.
Yeonjun shook his head.
“You don’t have to explain yourself. I don’t need the niceties. I can get out of your hair-”
”No! That’s not what I’m getting at.” YoungMi cut him off.
She stopped briefly to collect herself.
“I’m willing to house you for as long as you need. I’m even willing to connect you back to your family. I don’t know what you dealt with out in that wilderness so I get if you need time to recover. I’m trying to help, genuinely.” YoungMi continued to explain herself.”
”And what if I don't have anywhere to go? You’re just going to send me back into the wilderness?” He said, words thick with accusation.
YoungMi features contort in confusion. Her brows furrowed, if her face were made of paper they’d probably wrinkle permanently.
“Yeonjun-ah!” She says louder than she initially intended, quickly adjusting her tone, “Please just listen to me for a moment. I am perfectly fine with you staying here. I figured you had a family looking for you so I didn’t want to just take ownership of you outright until I could confirm that. In the case that you didn’t, I wanted to give you the choice of staying with me until you know what you want to do. Go on and live independently or actually get adopted. It’s not about not wanting you. I just want you to have a choice.”
He looked at the floor, his expression was unreadable. YoungMi could feel the swish of his tail as he sat in discomfort.
“You don’t have to have an answer right now. There’s still a few days. Just let me know when you’re ready, yeah?” She says, trying to ease the pressure from the decision. The moment felt tense as the hybrid simmered with indecision.
Yeonjun kept his gaze low, only nodding his head. A smile tugged at YoungMi’s lips, easing the weight in the air slightly. She was happy to have gotten through to him.
“How about we get washed up for the night? Maybe watch some more TV?” She suggested in an attempt to break the rest of the tension.
Yeonjun agreed after a few moments of pensiveness. YoungMi led the way into the extra bathroom, leaving him a fresh towel and a new change of clothes. She got the water at a good temperature for the fox.
”Yell for me if you need me, I’ll be getting ready in my bathroom.”
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Her mind didn’t tire when she showered. She felt like the conversation with Yeonjun was at least a littlw bit productive assuming he didn’t have a family to go back to. Adoption in general seemed like a sore spot but she knew that she shouldn’t pry. She doesn’t have a right to know. If he wants to talk about it eventually, he will come around to it on his own time. That is if he even wants to. He could have no intention of staying long at all and just want to be out in the world on his own.
Her chest felt heavy with the idea of Yeonjun not wanting to stay with her. She figured she’d call up her friends whenever Yeonjun makes up his mind or their living arrangement is more settled. She just needed to remind herself to not have any expectations of him besides feeling better.
She finally finished with her own routine, getting dressed and settling down for the night. She noticed how quiet the apartment was so she figured Yeonjun was done with his own bathing. He sat on the same corner of the couch he napped in earlier, a towel over his damp hair, water droplets scattered on his oversized white tee. His plaid, pajama-pants clad legs tucked under him as he faced the TV.
“You can turn the TV on,” YoungMi said, seeming to pull him from his thoughts. She grabbed the remote and handed him the remote so he could choose what he wanted to watch. She sat down, mainly watching him as he scrolled through his options. He decided on some Super Sentai.
He must have had enough of her stare boring into the side of his head, taking the towel off his mostly dried hair and meeting her gaze. YoungMi snapped her eyes towards the TV, face burning in embarrassment, caught red handed for staring. Who could blame her for being enamored by the hybrid. He just looked so adorable in such a casual state.

Hi!! Just wanted to let you know I love your drabbles & the way you write both stories and regular posts.
Also, the way you refer to Changbin in such a respectful way is so nice to see. I never see him mentioned by supposed ot8 biases and the way he was treated for not having abs was really disgusting - god forbid someone isn’t perfectly chiseled and doesn’t necessarily feel comfortable starving themselves to be, according to the twitter fandom. Even changbin biases kind of reflect that sometimes, ngl. Your blog is pretty refreshing to read!
- love, a changbin bias with both a cross dressing and feedism kink lmao 💕💖
OH MY GOSSSHHH this is so sweet !! thank u so much :< im so glad my blog could lift your spirits a bit 🥺❤️
