“I specialize in alcoholic beverages if you couldn’t tell by the last time you were in my bar.“ Jake spoke into the phone with a chuckle “Also starbucks is overrated I’d rather support a small business with better quality.“

Izara could feel the wet, tiled floor beneath her as a man stood over her, offering her his hand. She had slipped just a moment ago, not thinking anyone could hear her fall. “I could have died.” She huffed dramatically, taking the man’s hand, but ending up grabbing onto him entirely, as she was not looking to slip once more in her attractive, albeit very high heels. She clung to him like a cat being held over water, her panicked expression doing nothing to lessen her dramatic appearance.
Jake steadied himself with the new found weigh of the scared girl in his arms “I-I’m sorry.“ he stuttered unsure of exactly what was happening. He moved them both from he glistening floor with a small dry butt imprint and sat her in the nearest bar stool. “Are you okay?“ he asked trying to detach himself from the over zealous girl.

“Yes we are, but I had just received a text that I’m good to go tonight. I’m just going to take a couple of more shots then probably head home and get some sleep before they page me.” Chloe told him before placing her phone down.
“That’s what you’re doing with your night off?“ He asked with raised brows “Talking to me while you drink? I mean no judgement“ he said with a chuckle trying to dismiss the tiny bit of judgement in his voice.

“Oh wow, if that’s the case then you must truly be ride or die. Emo Spider-Man and his jazzy jowls, just weren’t quite for everyone,” she quipped.
“What? No spiderman can tug at your heart strings like Toby.“ Jake clutched his chest for dramatic affect “He was more relateable to thirteen year old me than Garfield was to twenty three year old me. But I love the franchise regardless.“

Miller scowled at him a bit. “I don’t know if ‘wise’ is the word I’d use, but I suppose the words themselves have some level of wisdom. I appreciate some of Marvels older work, but I’m not big on comics. I take it you are thought?”
“Comics? No not really I prefer the Marvel cinematic universe, a fan since the toby maguire’s spiderman.“ He chuckled

She nodded her head, “ Yes please, I might just drink a couple of more at that. Guess I don’t need to go back in tonight, which is a good thing.”
Jake poured at her will “Aren’t nurses on a clock or something? I always thought the downside to working in a hospital was you didn’t choose your hours.”

“Did you just quote Stan Lee via Uncle Ben?” she said, her drink halfway to her lips.
“Like I said, a very wise man.“ he chuckled “Marvel fan?”

“I know in school it helped to think of it as a story rather than a bunch of details, Lincoln was president, he wasn’t against slavery, but he knew a decision had to be made to keep the union together hence the emancipation proclamation.“

“you’re not supposed to tell me that, ‘cause now i could sue.” their tone was joking, there was a smile on their face. “it’s — fine. i’m used to fallin’ on my ass. — i would make a makeshift wet floor sign, though. someone might actually try to sue.”
“Appreciate the advise, Lawyer? or just a fan of Judge Judy? Also, can I get you something to drink as an apology?“

“The burgeoning alcoholic in me want’s to say ‘when do I start’, but the responsible adult in me is reminding me I already have a full-time job,” she grumbled. “Adulting is hard, man,” she whined.
“The first one sounds more fun“ he shrugged “In the words of a very wise man with great power comes great responsibility“

Chloe laughed with a nod of head. “ Oh yes most definitely.”
“Then I’m in the right business“ He chuckled cleaning a glass before looking back at her “Would you like another?“ Jake asked about to grab her shot glass.

“That’s been your secret plan? How diabolical of you,” she joked, finishing off the drink in her hands. “Oh, don’t tell me the owner of my new favorite bar can’t even make a decent martini. I guess that’s probably for the best, anyway. I’ll be much less likely to become an alcoholic if you’re not tending the bar every time we meet.”
“Sure I could, but the chances of it being good are very small. Which sucks cause I know how fun it is to say shaken not stirred.“ he said in a decent British accent. “Alcoholism... I have that affect on people“ Jake made a face conveying his sarcasm.

“good job! now my leg is broken and it’s all because you didn’t have a sign —“ cassie laughed, allowing him to pull her up, back to her feet. “someone might sue.”
“Someone not being you cause you’re so fond of me and my establishment?“ He gave a cheeky smile letting go of her hand when she was stable on her feet “Can I get you something for your sportsmanship?“

Miller took another drink, and laughed. “You may just have to pass on the recipe for a whiskey sour a la Rudd to the others. Because I’d be willing to pay for one,” she quipped. “Seems like quite a bit to do for one person, getting things prepped and what not. Might need at least an assistant to remind you of the hazards of a wet floor.”
“You’ve got the job, you’re now Black Hollow’s very own floor consultant. You’ll of course be paid in whiskey sours.“

“Yeah, well I ain’t about dying on slippery floors either.” He made a face, “Three to five? Shit, shouldn’t you have at least a warning on paper until then? Don’t want to kill the elderly now, do we?”
“That’s why I did it in the morning so by the time we get busy it’ll be dry. You’re just early.” Jake chuckled “What can I get you?“ he asked getting behind the bar.

She held up her hands in mock surrender. “Nope, not upset here at all. I gladly accept my fault on this one, but in all honesty by three thirty I plan on being dead to the world. The wonders of overnight shifts.” Miller took another drink from the glass. “So do you not have anyone helping you out in the mornings?”
“We appreciate your work deputy, your whiskey sour a la Rudd is on the house” he joked “Not on weekdays, not unless my staff asks for extra hours. It’s normally just me from twelve to three“

I had alcohol to help me get through nursing school. But I’ll definitely giving it a go though.”
