Part Four Of I Reread Moon Rising: Moonbli Detective Shenanigans (and other things)

I love love love Qibli and Moon trying to figure out how to talk to each other around the whole mind-reading thing. Qibli knows she can read minds and he is trying so hard to be okay with it, but he's also very freaked out by it for now.

Also shout-out to how all the teachers are reacting to the tragedy: Sunny is absolutely devastated, because this school was her idea and her baby and dragons are dead and it's all so wrong; Tsunami is angry because how else does Tsunami ever respond to things going badly; Clay is grieving--because he's an intensely relational being; Starflight is anxious and trying to figure out who did it--because anxiety and trying to intellectually figure everything out is what he does in tough situations, and Fatespeaker is worried about Starflight, because of course she is.

Meanwhile Webs is just relieved that he was late to history that day and wasn't in the cave. He's never beating the 'coward who cares more about saving his own scales than anything else' allegations.

Pike is such an interesting guy--what people most readily remember about the 'reading his mind' thing is the 'so pointless having dead enemies' bit, which is worth taking into account, but among his angry thoughts, he is once again feeling SO sad and worried for Tamarin. Pike cares SO MUCH for her. Anyoway, he's an odd dragon, to quote Moon.

Meanwhile Icicle is also so interesting once we're in her head: 'two dragons died? Who cares, I killed nine times that in every battle?' 'WHY is he still LECTURING US', 'this is a stupid school where all they've taught us is 'don't kill people or we'll lecture and moralise at you endlessly' for the third time, Girl What Is Your Problem?

and then there's Flame. I don't have much to say about him, except I think it's interesting how he's so angry and ragefilled internally that Moon almost gets trapped in his thoughts.

I love Qibli being like 'let's go talk to Onyx' and Moon's like 'it won't work', and Qibli's like 'we'll just do it the old fashioned way and use our eyes and ears' and Moon's internal reaction is 'that sounds inefficient'. 'Isolation' + 'mind-reading'=Moon cannot read body language, tone of voice, or subtext to save her life.

Moon notices that Onyx is way older than everyone else and wonders ‘why is she here?’. and that's the million-dollar question. Truly, Why Is She Here?

I love the way all the other SandWings kind of follow Qibli's lead because they know he's close to Thorn--I think that's so fun.

I enjoy Moon and Darkstalker's conflicting reactions to the skyfire. Like, Moon doesn't like being closed off from hearing other's thoughts--everyone is frighteningly unreadable and unpredictable, but she also doesn't agree with Darkstalker saying that they'd be 'deaf' without it--she's learning to like her powers, and she finds the world scary without them, but she also accepts that she could go without them because most dragons do. Unlike Darkstalker, Moon doesn't see her powers as something that she's entitled to, or being on the same playing field as everyone else as being stripped of her rightful gift.

SKY: he's NOT just a stupid little dumb dumb, he's silly and a bit dumb but i loves him. He CAN think for himself and Wren trusted him to hang around Possibility without her. I bet he knows some good survival things from Wren AANND he loves the world and he loves Wren and he's kind and he's awesome and he's NOT a little bitch. He likes snails and he's autistic and he's just a baby

FLAME: idk how underrated he is uhm but he's all sad and sad. He wants to prove himself and he hates his scar, not because it's ugly but because he's seen as weak and he angry and I'm sure I could write this better but my brain stopped working. Flame is cool and sad.
